UPDATE: 17-24Oct22 I returned to Gbrg and Red Carpet and was as pleased as my first visit four years before. Still a clean, simple, comfortable, quiet establishment to room at for my stay. Clean, comfortable bed. Hot water. Fridge (no freezer) and microwave. Amiable housekeeping couple and management. Perfect close location outside town away from the traffic and mobs on weekend. Terrific room rate. Anytime I visit Gbrg I will room here as long as Red Carpet Inn stands. May 2018: As remarked by others, this motel is 'modest' mostly because it's from a couple of decades ago in design ... roadside motor hotel with no or few amenities beyond a vending ice machine, beverage machine, air conditioning (not quiet window unit) and TV large flat-screen connected to cable but with few "authorized" channels. Trash emptied daily, fresh towels daily. However, aside from the bathroom floor, the accommodation is clean and neat with a tremendously huge bed with a mattress of that new "jump here and it won't move there" material. Too soft for me ... personal choice. Mostly fresh paint all over. Plenty of parking on blacktopped lot. The shower water is hot and the neighboring rooms quiet. No disturbances. You get what you pay for ... the rate for this motel is good for what is provided and beats by far the fancier palace prices of newer towers in Gettysburg proper or nearby. Red Carpet is affordable and should fit anyone's budget. It's a place to rest, recover, sleep, bathe, and go touring from, not reside in. Gettysburg downtown is four miles north, a quick hop by car. The Battlefield and attractions closer by a mile. I'm a senior and not fussy and compared to some past experiences, even at the higher end hotels, Red Carpet here in Gettysburg is all I required to enjoy a week touring the Battlefield and area. The rooms have refrigerators with shoebox-sized freezers and a microwave, so you can provide yourself with food while there as well, there are convenience stores and a market in Gettysburg. I enjoyed it and though I had contact with staff only at check-in, they were pleasant. I'd recommend this motel to anyone so long as they're not expecting The Borgata in Atlantic City or The Ritz-Carlton. For the non-fusspots among us this place is just right and leaves you with enough funds to enjoy the local attractions and maybe buy...
Read moreWorst hotel experience of my life. I've stayed in some trashy places, but this is the lowest of the low. The smell of rancid cigarettes was overwhelming. Everything I brought into the room took on the smell. It was unbearable. I literally left in the middle of the night because I couldn't sleep with the smell. But that was only one of many issues.
There are blood stains on the pillow and carpet. The linens were still dirty from the previous occupant and had cigarette burn holes all through them. The towels were still damp and also smelled of cigarettes. So even after a shower I was just wiping that stink all over me.
The microwave didnt work. There was no wifi which they advertised. The window was broken and the bed was terrible.
I had to ask myself... "is this even worth staying here tonight? I could end up with bedbugs and I will smell like this the rest of my trip." And the answer was a resounding "no."
I tried to return the key and check out in the middle of the night. No one was in the office and they were mad I woke them up. They didnt give me my money back. I'm highly dissatisfied and you could not pay me...
Read moreWhat a sh!+ hole! Pictures online are NOT what you get! This place looks and smells like a rent by the hour who9e house. You can't hang your clothes, the microwave is too close, the air conditioner was a joke, fridge was gross, the desk person acted like it would just kill him to give us 2 more pillows, no type of breakfast. Stains, hair on the bed and the covers, along with yellowish- gray sheets that dream of being white again, no hair. dryer.Floors that are stained worn and sticky and get this.. STAPLED, YES I SAID STAPLED.. walls that are stained, mismatched paint the place is just nasty. Yes it's old, worn and stinky. I feel like we got duped out of our $$for this room! It is noisy here, weirdo people in the parking lot all night, doors slamming. I could go on but I'll attach pictures .... wish we could get a refund. I'ts 235am and we are still awake because of all the noise and the uncomfortable pillows and mattress. All the other bad reviews are all true. We spent one night at the Super 8 By Windham and will forever go there the next time...
