The service is so far above the rest. Were there things I didn't love and will mention below to help you prepare if you are in a tent or cabin/no bath? Yes, but will we be back? Absolutely!!!
We are two moms whose kiddos are best friends and we wanted to give them some real time to have together and wow did we pick the place!! Most importantly, we felt safe because every single employee is friendly, professional, quick to respond and honestly, several went above and beyond (looking at you Glory and Stenton and a handful of names I forget- sorry!) This safe feeling allowed this over protective mom to give the kids freedom and we were certainly in the right cabin (21) as we could see them if they wanted to go to the store (we could see the entry area from cabin) or the horses and goats.. they were also able to scooter with a lot of freedom. The campground had so many organized activities and sadly, I was the only one excited about it so we didn't do them but I observed some and the kids were having a blast! I interacted with the store a lot and I was thrilled that they would allow our girls to go in and order an ice cream without parents.. these are important lessons for kiddos (shopping, using a cc and interacting with cashier) and it just enhanced our experience.. excellent customer service and our girls LOVED going in alone and interacting. The grounds are beautiful and when I book a cabin without a bathroom and it has the bare minimum I don't expect much (think tent with amenities). There was a bigger then dorm size fridge in the room which was a happy surprise. I hate bringing up any negative but be prepared, these cabins aren't new and we heard termites munching on the wood and it was pleasant as it sounds like rain but bugs (Blech) :/. And not much cleaning goes on as in a tent-- cobwebs line the corners.. be prepared. Lots of gaps in the logs of the cabin so visually watch bugs and ants in and out of the cabin... AIR CONDITioner that works very well makes up for most of that! And with the fridge! Awesome... this cabin doesn't have any surfaces for - well, anything. Most of these cabins I have been in has a small desk in both rooms attached to the wall or something similar... we made it work by using the top of their fridge and the bench for surface but bring your camping table to save a lot of trouble. Bring a picnic table cover and chairs and this site will work perfectly!! Absolutely loved the location!! The girls spent their days sleeping in, swimming, meeting new friends, scootering, s'mores, cooking over the fire, interacting with amazing employees!! Wonderful sunset over the office.. staying up way too late, giggling into the night... outstanding time!! Feeding goats our carrot and apple scraps m... absolutely wonderful stay..
Okay- so lastly, the bathroom is fine but bring shower shoes and really have some with more then a flip flop sole because there's some issue with the water going down. I was the only one in the morning and was the first (everything dry) and within less then 2 minutes the water was getting close to the top of my shoe sole and well.. it is like that all day and any camp showers are used by many so Blech.. there are improvements going on everywhere so maybe they will tackle this one
The thing that bothered me the most was a lack of a cooking kitchen. I traveled to 22 national parks last summer and never encountered such an awful situation for campers in tents or cabins with no sink or water spicket. We cooked and did so for most meals. First we went to the bathroom to wash our dishes. Well that definitely wouldn't work for so many reasons... then I asked the office and they said to find a spicket from a site unused that was close to us and use it. For us- it wouldn't work well but we used it for a day. Then We went to the laundry room and that worked the best but I hate feeling like I am doing something wrong. Hope they put one in!
Again, try and find any customer service as wonderfully friendly, and fun....as this campground... I don't...
Read moreI made reservations for the Indianapolis KOA Holiday on May 5, 2024 I reserved a deluxe site for 3 adults, 3 children, and pets. After we set up on Thursday, July 4th I noticed that there were a lot of empty spaces in the campground, and I was surprised because this campground has always been completely full over the July 4th holiday in the past. We enjoyed our Thursday, Friday and Saturday until the evening of Saturday, July 6, 2024. We had 3 additional family members join us for dinner that evening, my husbandâs 80-year-old mother, my 75-year-old mother and our youngest daughter. After we finished with dinner, we were sitting in lawn chairs talking, kids were coming and going on bicycles, the campers in spot D31 came over and talked to us and had some watermelon that we offered to them.
A golf cart comes flying by, slams on the breaks about 3 campsites away from us and yells âare those your vehicles?â I said yes and he said move them. I said OKAY we will and he said, âI want them moved sooner rather than laterâ and I said I understand. The people in those vehicles, an 80 year old woman, a 75 year old woman and our daughter left the campground because they were worried about the manâs attitude and didnât want to cause any problems. These vehicles were moved and gone within 3 -5 minutes. A teenage employee, male, came to our campsite and wanted to know how many vehicles we paid for. My husband was the only one at the site and he told the teenager that he wasnât sure because he hadnât booked the reservation, could he (the employee) go to the office and pull our receipt to check that? The teen employee said he could not do that and left. A few minute later the teenage male came back with a teenage female (Gabriella), and she stated that she wanted money for the 13 people we had on our site. My husband told Gabriella that we didnât have 13 people on our campsite, and he wasnât paying anything additional until she could show him what we paid as I wasnât there. She refused to get him a paper copy of the receipt and told him to vacate the campground. He told Gabriella that we werenâtâ vacating the campground and she said I will call the cops and they left in the golf cart.
I arrived back at the campsite right after that and I was confused because I thought I paid for people not cars. I had 3 vehicle tags from when I checked in.
Then a Sheriffâs vehicle pulled up along with the teenage employees, Gabriella made some kind of hand motion and said I told you I would call the cops. My husband calls me and tells me that the Sheriffâs were told that we were belligerent and rude, but Gabriella decided we could stay since it was just another 12 hours.
All is good, right?
4 Sheriffs cars show up. Iâm like what the heck have we done now? One of the officersâ states that the owner wants us to leave, it is like 8:00 P.M. now. We were told to grab what we needed and find rides home. I said you mean you want me to leave my camper and vehicles here. He said yes, I asked why and the officers because you all are intoxicated. I said WHAT! The officer said that was what was reported to 911. I wasnât leaving my camper and 2 vehicles there. My daughter didnât want to leave her vehicle there either. I offered to take a breathalyzer and so did my daughter. We both blew zero. My husband didnât want to take a breathalyzer to prove his innocence against false accusations. He eventually told the officers he would take the breathalyzer, but the officers with the machine had left. The officers had become very sympathetic with our situation and were extremely nice. They even left the campground before we vacated.
This campground cost the taxpays a great deal of money in having Sheriffs come not once but twice to kick out regular KOA customers. These officers needed to be on scenes where people needed help not at a campground kicking out falsely...
Read moreI struggle with giving this place 2 stars. Thereâs many positives and few negatives about this KOA, but the negatives make me not want to return; thus the 2 star rating. The positives areâŚitâs clean. Many of the sites have unique features including fireplaces, fire rings, and swings. The staff seem to be very friendly. I believe they have other amenities but I didnât use them. The first off putting feature is the guidelinesâŚ. I think the humor is intended, but it was a little extra on the humor and has a rude connotation when your experience here, like mine, was not the best. Explicitly written is no golf carts⌠we travel a golf cart, so before we parked, I called and asked if I could park it outside my camper because I convert the garage to an office. I was granted permission, but the very next day, my husband recorded a rude text message about the golf cart anyways. There are no bathhouses or dumpsters reasonably located to our site⌠(near Camping World). They say that they pick up trash daily, but in the 10 days I stayed here my trash was not picked up 3 of 4 times and sat out all night. The guidelines want you to take it to the dumpster after 11 am. Mine was placed out at approximately 7 AM every time and still not picked up. I need a total knee replacement and couldnât walk it to the dumpster and I couldnât take it away on the golf cart without breaking another rule, so it did not get picked up. Thankfully, no rabid animals got into the trash-as this was suggested as to what might happen in their guidelines. My spouse was working 12 hour shifts, so Iâm without a vehicle during daylight hours and Iâm not going out at freezing temps at night because the park didnât follow its own rules. Also, there are these wooden poles at the each site to navigate with a big rig. We didnât have trouble navigating but I can see this being a problem for some big rigs. The park is gated on both ends.. one remains open 24/7. You do have road noise and camping world flag noise on most sites, so if you need quiet, this is not your spot. I got used to it and it was not a bother for me. The internet connectivity is also above average. I think this would be a great place for families in warm weather. Itâs just not the best if you struggle with mobility issues and want to take advantage of the facilities because the rules are no motorized vehicles of any kind. I maybe would have had a different experience if I had spoken up about my mobility issues, and had an opportunity to...
