I booked a 2 night stay at the RV park for the tail end of a week long trip from Wisconsin to the Grand Canyon and up through the black hills and within a half hour of arriving, we knew we wanted to return for a longer stay next summer. There is plenty for kids to do and explore. The site is where Bedrock City once stood and we had a great time exploring around some of the remaining 'ruins'. The playground is faatastic for all ages of children and the pool area is awesome for kids and adults alike. With an adult pool and children's pool, adults can relax without kids splashing and yelling in your face (as a mother of 5, it's a welcomed retreat... But no guarantees your husband won't do the same thing to you anyway lol). The children's pool is right next to it and a little below so it's easy to keep an eye on little ones at the same time. The little cabana deal has reasonably priced snacks, pizza and alcoholic drinks. Ryan, the guy working our first night there, is exactly the kind of employee you want to meet while on vacation. Super cool guy. Tip him well. ;) We also met the manager of the pool area and shared some stories over drinks. We felt welcomed from the moment we stepped foot in the pool area. The lodge has a general store, including little bits and bobs for simple RV repairs, basic groceries (pricey, but convenient), wood and a gift shop. But guys, the view cannot be beat. This resort is nestled along the Black Hills so your first view upon checking in, waking up and chilling in the pool is the amazing mountainous backdrop. We could stay a week and never tired of it. Practical stuff: There are multiple stay options on site including tent camping, cabins of various sizes, tent cabins and teepees. I hear tree houses are going up as well but can't confirm. The shower house has individual bathrooms, some with spacious showers (free for guests) and a laundry room attached. Dogs of all breeds and sizes are welcomed (check the website though because they aren't permitted in certain cabins). My only "warning" is watch for poop! The side effect of this natural setting with abundant wildlife is abundant poop. We saw a young white tailed deer buck our first night, grazing in front of the lodge. He clearly has many friends because the grounds are a minefield of deer and other critter poo. Just watch your step. It's not enough to deter us from returning. Also, super close to Custer State Park and Crazy Horse (which is why we chose the location). Lots to do...
Read moreFirst time here. We were looking for something different for my family and my wife's niece and her family with there new camper. We all are totally blown away at the very friendly and courteous staff, the layout of the campground, the giant playground for the kids, the two different pools, one for the kids and one for the adults plus a hot tub, they also had a huge covered seating area next to the pool with a snack bar. The campsites to some people may seem to close together but we felt there was plenty of space between compared to other campgrounds we've been to. And the rates I feel were good considering all the amenities you get. The only down fall is no cable, but that is very minor, I can live without that for a few days. Overall I would give this place 10 stars if I could. This is our new go to place for all of us. Plus it was really nice to see they kept bits and pieces of the old Flintstones village.
Update 7/5/25 been coming up here for four years now try to spend 4to 5 weekends during the summer and always promoting and bringing new people to enjoy the camp resort. We used to look forward to camping up here, but after this weekend we can't wait to check out. Checked in on the fourth around 11am like I normally have been doing for 4years and was informed that there is now a 20 dollar early check in fee, and was inquiring about staying an extra in Oct (off season) and people very seldom camp in oct and found out from manager that the nightly rate was more in Oct than what I'm paying now( july). Needless to say the harvest moon festival in Oct maybe our last time camping up here. Apparently the owners of this camp resort could care less about the locals and all that we've tried to do for this resort by promoting and bringing new customers. I guess the almighty dollar is more important than new or existing regular campers. sincerely NOT a happy camper PS I know that owners are big corporate big wigs and couldn't give a rats ass we come back or not but what goes around comes around and word off mouth can make ya or break ya and I have a big mouth when it comes to spreading the word...
Read moreBuffalo ridge campground: Review for deluxe cabins #5 & #4. Hubs and I with two boys (9 & 12). We booked late and couldn't get the larger cabin for the 5 nights we were there. Cabin #5 is a 4 person cabin. Has a king size bed (foam mattress pretty firm) and a full pull out bed. My kids were too big to sleep on that bed together. We had a twin blow up that we used for my youngest. Not much room in the cabin with the beds. It had beautiful views of the hills and woods. You can see the sun rise from the living room/deck. Every morning a mama deer and baby would come and hang out in the woods behind the cabins. One morning we saw two bucks walking past our cabin. Cabin #5 Same layout but with a queen size bed (box spring mattress that I would rate a 9 for firmness. Hubs says it's a 12) has an upstairs with steep steps. My oldest did hit his head the first time up but once they got used to it they were fine. Upstairs has two twin beds with lots of space. Window you can open and let the air in. Just lovely and perfect for my kids. It had everything we wanted. Kitchen had all the basics. Pans, plates, glasses, silverware, knives, ECT. We made burgers, brats, tacos, and salads. The grill was easy to use. Both cabins we had issues with the internet, constantly disconnecting but #4 was slightly better as long as we were in the living room. Views from both cabins are woods and the hills. It was nice being close to town yet it was quiet. Short walk to the pool which the kids loved. The views from the pool are of the hills, just a really lovely place. Everyone that worked there was nice. This place has a past that is interesting to research. I also gave up on the 5 cup Mr. Coffee maker by the 3rd day. Places we went with reviews. Calamity Jane Coffee Shop - 1.2 mile. Pizza Works - 1.1 mile Begging Burro Mexican - 1.3 Custer State Park 15 Needles highway. 13 Sylvan Lake 8.1 Wildlife loop 16 Mount Rushmore - 21 Crazy Horse 8 Mammoth sinkhole - 38 Badlands 2 hour drive Custer Wolf -1.3 Purple pie -...
