I stayed in a first-floor room at the inn. A few highlights:
The room - the room was spacious, quiet, and spotless. The full kitchen, full-size fridge and Keurig machine were nice touches. All the dishes and glasses were squeaky clean. The bed was comfortable and the room dark and quiet at night, I got my best sleep of the week here. I loved the deck/balcony overlooking the river and Creeper trail - a great spot for a drink or morning coffee or to just sit and read.
Location - the Inn is in a perfect location with lots of parking. You can walk 5-10 minutes to the center of Damascus along the Creeper trail, or go 2 minutes in the other direction to a large grocery store.
Service - I booked my room in advance online, but I was traveling with a friend who needed a room at the last minute. He called the customer service number, and Carrie set him up with a room within a few minutes. When we couldn't get the door to his room to open, Carrie switched him to another room, which opened immediately.
All in all, I loved this place and will certainly stay here again the next time I'm in Damascus. It's a...
Read moreWe stayed for an anniversary trip where we did the Creeper Trail. The room was very clean. The room was decorated very nicely with bicycle / trail art and furnishings. Very well done. The small kitchen area is just right for cooking a small meal. I would recommend this place to stay for anyone doing the AT or the Creeper Trail. Our room overlooked the river on the second floor. Grocery store is walking distance. Porch had a nice swing and chairs. It could have used a small table.
I give it four stars on service as there is no attendant or office. That said, the automation of the door lock seemed to work great. There was evidence of camera security.
We plan to be back with grandchildren.
To the owners: Room 201 check the swing as the front is sagging and needs attention. I am not sure who supervised the construction of this place but it is amazing. Commented to wife this is exactly as I would have built it. Kudos!

Read moreWe had family members coming to Damascus to help us with hurricane related repairs last fall. They booked rooms at the River Trail Inn to be close to everything while helping. Although I live in Damascus I had not been in this small local hotel. Self check-in for them was a great asset. The rooms are lovely with rocking chairs and a bench on a balcony overlooking the Laurel Creek. Local photos and memorabilia added to the already lovely decor. There is an off-street parking lot. They thoroughly enjoyed staying there after working all day with us. Food City grocery store is within walking distance and there are currently three restaurants and a Subway open as well as a gas station. Sundog Outfitter and Damascus Outdoors are open daily. The town of Damascus is slowly recovering from Helene. If you are thinking about a vacation in/near Damascus this is the place - full size kitchen area, dining corner and fabulous large...
