This may be an extensive review, but my partner and I lived here for more than 14 months. When we first checked in there were no queen rooms available (which is what we had reserved), and Jackie (front desk) was courteous enough to give us a king suite because it was available. We had stayed there before for a short period in a queen room and that was just fine as well. The staff were ALWAYS super nice and accommodating. The manager, Tracey, was always professional and genuinely empathetic and cared. In all the time we were there, we never saw him dealing with anyone in an unprofessional way. I feel each and every one of the front desk employees were the same as well (Jackie, Will, Grace, DJ…all top-notch with us). The housekeeping and maintenance staff were great too. Marilu came every other week to clean and exchange towels and change the linens, etc. And whenever I saw her in the hallways she always asked if we needed anything. We also had Lydia from housekeeping come a few times over the course of the year as well. And whenever I saw her she would ask if we needed anything too. And, Duane, who works maintenance, was also great. We only had one maintenance issue in the time we were there…our stove stopped working. I literally went and told Jackie at the front desk, left to go to the grocery store, came back and the problem had already been taken care of.
In the time we were there, they redid all the concrete in the entrances, retiled the front lobby area, and also had the parking lot asphalted. The landscape was kept well the entire time as well. It’s also super conveniently located by the expressways (I-55 and 355). There are grocery stores less than 8 min away. And also gas stations with convenience items (and food) even closer.
And whoever commented about the toilet being clogged and said the staff told them that there were plungers in all the trash rooms…come on, if you clogged the toilet, unclog it yourself with a plunger! That review cracked me up actually! Why should they come and unclog your toilet?! Use the plungers that are provided! 🤦🏻♀️ And whoever complained about the complimentary breakfast…come on! If you want eggs and toast or whatever every day, then get some of the complimentary cookware and appliances they provide as well! My partner almost always would have coffee on the go before work every day. There’s oatmeal and muffins and granola bars as well. We found it extremely convenient.
I’ve stayed at 5 star hotels all over the world. Literally. ESA might not be a 5 star hotel that people are desiring or think about, but if you want a 5 star hotel for an extensive stay, then go pay double (or triple or more) the price elsewhere. We really had absolutely no issues here. I literally cried when I was checking out because everyone was so kind and became more like friends I would talk to or see every day. I would definitely stay there again if...
Read moreI'm gonna start out to say that. My experience in the very beginning was wonderful. The manager checked me in and made me feel very welcome. The room was really nice. It was clean. It was quiet as the weeks went on. However, I had an encounter with one of the staff that was harassing me to the point where I had to call the police. This is no reflection on the management. This is a reflection on that woman who was working on Tuesday night. PM shift who had nothing better to do. But to harass me as I was walking to elevator minding my own business with my dog, making me feel scared demanding to know my room. You could tell in her mind she was devious. She was trying to either. Maybe charge me more money for things that weren't true or make up lies. Basically to share the story. When you walk your dog outside. There are poop piles from other big dogs that are at least. I counted about 40 poop piles. Then they have notes on the doors. Stating that if you don't pick up your dog's mess outside you will be fine or kicked out which is only right. I picked up my little tiny dogs number 2. And on Sunday I could not find a garbage can in the front of the building. So when I walked in the bag was tied tightly, there was nothing a mess. It was not even that big of a deal. I threw it in the garbage can. When I walked inside the door it didn't smell and then she gave me an attitude on Sunday. Tell me why did I throw that in the garbage can so we had a conversation? I took it out, but then I gave her no right to try to figure out what room I was in and falsely accused me and harassed me to the point where I had to call the police. Scared to piece's needless to stay. I moved the heck out of there. And I'm going to be honest, it was because she had a prejudice against me. There are some things they could work on, though. They charge you and a lot of money to stay there and they don't offer you coffee in the morning . It just was not a good experience at all. No one. Needs to be harassed for doing the right thing and picking up your dog's mess and then lied to and twisted the truth trying to get you to look like you're doing something bad so that they can charge you more money, a fine,or kick you out...
Read moreI travel often for work, and this was hands down the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The first negative experience was at check-in. We paid for a king room but were told the hotel was overbooked and they did not have any left. After some discussion, the manager found us a queen room, which was fine, but still not what we had paid for. To say that the hotel was rundown and dirty would be the understatement of the year. The lobby was dismal and almost nonexistent, the hallways smelled like cigarettes and musty carpet, and the rooms were utterly disgusting. There was mold in our bathroom, the wood laminate floor was sticky, the room smelled old and musty, and there was not a single amenity in sight, not even a do not disturb sign. When I called to ask about the sign they told me not to worry about it because they only offer housekeeping services two times per week. The towels were very thin and small, the blanket on the bed was old and dingy, and the refrigerator was stained and dirty. I wish that I had something nice to say because I don't like leaving only negative reviews, but there is not one positive thing to say about the Extended Stay in Darien. This hotel is in VERY bad need of renovation and I would not recommend this property to anyone, especially families. We had originally booked our room for two nights but had to leave after the first night because we did not feel comfortable staying another night. The manager did refund our party for one of the nights, but that's only because her check-in staff got involved. When the manager agreed to the partial refund, she couldn't even make eye contact with us or take her attention off of her cellphone. She definitely made us feel like we were bothering her. This stay was honestly the worst hotel stay I have experienced in all my years of traveling across the country. Do yourself a favor and find another hotel to stay at, you won't regret...
