The Castaways On the River — Hotel in DeLand

Stopped in about 7 p.m. for a bite to eat, I've been coming here to rent a cabin for 4 years and fish. This was the first time I had a horrible experience here. Our bartender had a bad attitude because apparently by her demeanor she was in a hurry to clean up for closing. She was not polite to us in any way, apparently we are not locals even though I live in Green cove springs and was attententive to the other 7 people who live here. My fish and chips were good but my friend ordered the fish chowder which had 1 popcorn shrimp in it and no fish. It tasted like cream of potatoes soup with fish juice in it and very salty. He ate 1/3 rd of the bowl and said I'm done with this. She came up and said how is everything? I replied my friend doesn't like the soup and she ignored my comment like she didn't care and brought us our check. We paid $11 for a cup of salty cream of potatoes soup without hardly any fish, shrimp and no scallops. We were offended and was on our way out and she screams across the whole bar about us not leaving her a tip if we ever come back. This is B.s. service workers get tipped great by us for good, friendly service and customer care. She showed none of these traits in her service. Maybe she should find a job that she likes and is actually good at. She is by far the most unfriendly and rude bartender/ server I've had in a long time. I hope the owners and management read this and make the correct changes to bring back the normal great service I've been used to coming here the last 4 years, sincerely you local neighbor to the north in Green...

We live only an hour away from this business. We went for the day to rent a pontoon boat. My first impression of the business was a woman in the office. One of the people in our group said "every time she spoke, it was in a scolding tone of voice." I found her to be not helpful and not cordial. But, I am mainly writing this to give a heads up to those of you that are renting a pontoon. You do pay for fuel on top of the rental fee. Some places do not charge you for fuel. So be prepared because these pontoons evidently use much more gas than other ones with less horsepower. I had expected $20 or so. Turned out to be over $50 for 3 hours on the water. Yes, we were moving on the water for 3 hours. For those of you that just go out and sit and fish, fuel won't be as much. Otherwise, the pontoon was very nice and roomy. Only one bimini, but that has been the same with other rentals in other areas of central FL and on the gulf side. If you are short, take their steps with you if you need to get out of the boat other than at their dock. Water was low and dock was higher than boat so very challenging for some of us shorter people to get in and out of the boat. The people at the dock that oriented us on the boat were thorough and helpful. We have boated other places that had more wildlife and things of interest, so we will continue to try different areas and won't be back...

at first everything was perfect great customer service at the office. we took the pontoon boat to silver glen springs with no problems. as you can see in the pictures very beautiful place. after 2 hours we left to see more of lake george. in the process of leaving the glen which was the limitation of travel north WHICH we were not informed of by the staff. we maid it 30 min away from the glen the boat broke down. we had no cell service and were stranded. luckily a few friendly people stopped and we were able to call castaways to inform them of our problem. they said help was on the way.(11:45 )am we did not receive help until (3:00)pm and were towed back to castaways. we got there around (4:00) which was our return time. the guy that came out was very rude. but the rest of the staff was nice. i think because of my nationality (spanish) treating me very disrespectfully and still being charged the full amount with only receiving close to half of my rental time. the guy didn't want to hear anything about our loss of time stranded because mechanical problems. which is out of my hands and is up to the company to make sure there equipment is working 100%. didn't receive any compensation at all.
