I just read the amazing reviews on here and had to post this because if this is how people really feel about shady hole in the wall motels, then I can't trust ANY reviews on Trip Advisor.||||We were moving from CO to MT and had planned to drive through the night but our moving truck had terrible lights. So we stopped in Douglas. After finding every single motel in town booked we were referred to the Plains Motel to accommodate our party of 3 adults, 1 child, and 2 dogs. ||||Hub went into the office which was still open at 11:00 pm and was told the Suite would fit all of us at 3 beds and $75 for the night it was fine. ||||I can't even fully explain how awful it was once inside. It was old, smelly, with sheer curtains over the 3 Windows. Two full size beds across from a dented and broken dresser. An ashtray and tube tv sat on top with a broken remote control. Another separate bedroom had another full sized bed. There was a sink with counter space and the toilet and shower were in the bathroom. It all sounds fine up front, but the details really make the place. ||||The ceiling panels were barely hanging on. Light fixture in the main room didn't have covers over the bulbs. Come to think of it, none of them did. Extremely thin and old stretch carpet over concrete. Bed coverings have probably seen 2-3 decades of motel patrons. The walls were partially wood panel, partially brick, partially drywall, and God knows what else. There was a window over the vanity area but it looked out into a hallway where we could hear but not see people talking loudly throughout the night and following morning. ||||The bathroom. Oh the bathroom had a broken light fixture with about a foot hole cut around it and a new light bulb wired in, exposing the wires and attic area. The shower had obviously not been cleaned in a long time. The walls were filthy. The toilet was old and filthy. The grout and seals were nearly disintegrated. (I imagine a large mold problem behind all of the walls). But I didn't want to investigate too much because it seems like the kind of place that would have hidden cameras. The whole place had that vibe. Like we were kind of afraid to talk about it while we were there for fear of what might happen to us.||||Then there's the bar next door. Okay so we got in late and had a moving truck and an SUV loaded with our whole life and having to leave it all outside a shady motel and bar was not great. The two men in our group went out to check the vehicles before we finally went to sleep. They each took guard at the beds under the windows facing the parking lot, with a handgun and a shotgun nearby knowing we had so many belongings out there next to a rowdy bar and the cops had already showed up once.||||Finally it was time to get my kiddo to sleep. She wanted to get under the blankies but I was not about that. She fought me on it so finally I pulled the sheets back and HALLELUJAH they smelled Downey Fresh! She fell asleep quickly, I followed after and the men slept off and on, hearing every noise outside. ||||If I had seen this place in daylight I would never have agreed to stay let alone allow my 2 year old daughter. But it...
Read moreAte at the restaurant where smoking is permitted. It's kinda dirty and reaks of smoke. The salad bar is lettuce, mac salad, potato salad, cottage cheese and some fruit (canned). No fixins at this salad bar. Not a tomato or onion in sight. Had the rocky mountain oysters. They were pretty good. Avoid the salad bar. The motel. Dirty. Replaced the batteries in the remote. That now works. Tv doesnt work, outlet doesnt work. Used an extension cord and found an outlet that works. No signal and since the batteries were not in remote, the thing needs to be reset. Has a split level feel to it. A small kitchenette, large fridge, needs a good scrubbing. Old and outdated fixtures, blankets, linens. The AC is on point. Shady chatacters hanging about. Nonexistent wifi. No signal. Staff is kind. Welcoming. Outside, the reason I chose the place, is super western looking. Looks like a little western town and the history of it is pretty cool. Needs a 100% complete overhaul. Probably the worst place i ever stayed. Smoker friendly though. Cost 48$. It is what it is. We'll call it an adventure. Didn't see the ice cream shop or...
Read moreWe stayed here two nights; the first night was frightful for we are both allergic to plastic and found it on the mattress after being told there was not plastic being use; we came in late, called the number and they came right over...the bed and pillows were very comfy. Now when it came to hot water, yes, there is hot water and good pressure but it took like five minutes to have the benefit of same. This is a huge motel so that is to be expected. I believe they could add a towel or two as the ones there were very white and nice but they were also small. The motel has years of history behind it..you will enjoy staying here but plan to take some time to look through what they have to offer in the history. The second night we had room 143, I will tell you this was an awesome experience! Nice size although we had two queens, no plastic mattress pad, even nicer pillows and blanket! Decor very nice; not fancy but pretty well...
