My husband and I stayed in the Hemlock cabin this past April, and it was a real treat.
We’re private people, so we appreciated that the cabin was mostly secluded (another cabin—across the pond—was kind of in sight from our porch, which was fine; a distant farm was in view over the rolling hills, which was lovely) and that the check-in process was contactless. We didn’t see a single person, and it felt like we were in our own little world.
We loved to sit in the rockers on the porch, taking in the view of rolling green hills and enjoying the quiet. It was a bit too cold and rainy in April for us to venture the few feet into the yard to the firepit, but it looked nice. It was not too cold to take advantage of the hot tub (which was given extra privacy tucked into the corner of the porch). The hot tub was nice and clean, and the lights were fun at night.
Inside was very nice. With the loft bedroom and cathedral ceiling, the cabin was open and spacious. The décor was minimal, elegant, and everything was spotless and shining. It looked brand new.
The living room couch was comfy, the rug was nice, and the HD TV had Netflix and a Blu-ray player. One very minor complaint was that the Blu-ray player was on top of the mantle, and a shorter gal like me had some trouble reaching it, but my tall husband didn’t have that issue. The fireplace was very much appreciated in April, and I loved that it could be controlled by remote. So cozy and romantic.
The bed was big and super comfortable, with good pillows and bedding. We didn’t use the sofa bed, but converted it from sofa to bed, just for fun. There was ample storage space in the closet and night table. (I could have used a few more hangers, but that’s only because I packed too many outfits.) I liked the benches at the foot of the bed and under the window.
The bathroom was great. I enjoyed the tub with its jets. The shower was so nice. It took a little trial and error to figure out the faucets, but it was worth it. Very classy. There was enough counter space for us both to get ready together. The make-up mirror was perfect. While there were plenty of towels, we went through them like crazy between all the baths, showers, and hot tub adventures; there was a note that we could request more towels, but we made do.
The kitchen was well-stocked and fun to explore. It had everything we needed. I’d never experienced soft close drawers and cabinets before, and I fell in love with them. Not to minimalize how great everything else was, but the soft close drawers were my favourite part of the cabin—they were so smooth! :)
The cabin exceeded our expectations. It had everything we could want and provided the perfect environment to relax and enjoy our time together.
And we loved the area! We’d never been to Sugarcreek before (though I watched the movie Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio to get hyped ahead of time). It was so pretty, and just a short (and scenic) drive from the cabin. We stocked up on groceries at the nearby Walnut Creek Cheese (including make-your-own peanut butter), supplemented with sweets from Esther’s Home Bakery and Café (yummy fudge and jam) and wine and cheese from Broad Run Cheesehouse (friendly, helpful service). The World’s Largest Cuckoo Clock was cute. Collectors Decanters & Steins had lots to see and nice proprietors. We spent way more time that we would have expected in the Alpine Hills Museum—it was so neat! I took a couple hundred pictures. We got a kick out of their album of all the Ohio Swiss Festival queens. We decided we have to go back for the Swiss Festival in October.
I guarantee that whenever we go back to Sugarcreek, we’ll stay in the Hemlock at Briarwood Amish Country Cabins. I highly...
Read moreWe stayed in the Twilight cabin in July 2016. Please see my video on you tube. Search for "Twilight cabin Ohio amish".
Our stay was good. We knew going in that the cabin was fairly close to where the owners live but didn't know it was that close! We heard every single time someone went into the driveway and/or down to the other cabins. Despite this the privacy and quietness was adequate. Other good points was that the kitchen was very well appointed with all the dishes we needed to prepare a meal. Don't forget to bring coffee filters! The bed was very comfortable. AC cools very well. Bathroom was very nice and water pressure adequate. All windows are case style and close very tightly and work smoothly. No bugs. Hot tub was very nice!! All towels, including a large beach type were provided. Lot of birds singing. Nice sunset. Couple of very nice dogs greeted us and one standoffish cat.
Issues we had that other people might not find bothersome were the following:
The propane grill was very nasty and in need of a good cleaning. To get to the propane grill you have to go through the bedroom. Not good if you are bringing food to/from the kitchen. Walking through the bedroom to the patio/deck is quirky. The wall at the end of the bed is slanted. You have to walk sideways or bent over around the bed. The couch is peeling for lack of a better word and needs replaced.
We also felt the price for The Twilight was high. Knowing what we know now we should have chosen The Hemlock or The Briarwood in that order. They are both even more expensive but a lot more secluded.
Make no mistake about it you are in the middle of Amish country at these cabins. Gravel roads and a lot of horse and buggies. There is some kind of major construction going on not to far away from the cabins but we...
Read moreTo begin, please let me say that we are now terribly spoiled by the Briarwood. :) We have stayed in the "cabin" (it's really more of a luxe cottage) several times, during different seasons and for different lengths of time. All of our time spent has been there has been, well...enchanting. We think of it as our home away from home. Every comfort we would ask for has been thoughtfully provided. I have prepared a holiday meal here, we have celebrated two birthdays here, and made many wonderful memories. We have stayed in other properties in Amish country (when "our" cottage has been booked) and they have been nice...but not like this special place. We are booking this upcoming trip in the Hemlock, and know it will be just as fabulous as the Briarwood. The grounds are gorgeous, complete with some very friendly animals and a incredible view. The owners are available but totally unobtrusive. The area is perfect...close to some fun things to do, but in the country far enough out that you dont hear traffic. If you are looking to relax, recharge and make great memories, you simply could not select a...
