Overall, very happy with the Ranch House rental and would return if ever in the area again. For this visit, we used as a base to visit Texas State Univ and Univ of Texas with my daughter. Couldn’t bring our dog as planned due to personal reasons, but the house is pet friendly. In general, the house was extremely clean, spotless everywhere. Front patio was wonderful to sip coffee and watch the sunrise/sunset. Regularly saw a family of foxes and the occasional deer around the property. House is 7-8 paved miles from any main road, so extremely quiet, except for when an occasional car passes on the country road. Suggest stopping at HEB for some initial supplies in Dripping Springs before coming to the house; otherwise you would have to backtrack the country roads after arrival. The house appears to be on the expansive ranch of the owner, but didn’t see another house or anyone on/near the property during our stay. House is adjacent (1/8 mile) to an active winery (Hawk’s Shadow); can even see the vineyard from the back yard. Just past the winery another 1/8 mile are the Casitas (same owner) which have a pool that can be used by the tenant of the Ranch House. Compared to the Ranch House, the Casitas look to be newer, prettier buildings (stone), but look less roomy and less private than the Ranch House. Location is 15 minutes from HEB / Dripping Springs, 30 minutes from Pedernales State Park, 45 minutes from Wimberly, 1 hour from Austin, and 1 hour from San Marcos. Only minor negatives – 2-car garage is right next to house, but unusable (full with storage). The town of Dripping Springs was also a bit disappointing as suburban sprawl from Austin brings busy traffic there most of the day, especially during rush hour – no longer the quaint, small country town from years ago.

Read moreIf you're looking for a nice get away or simple vacation in hill country, Hill Country Casitas did not disappoint! Location was perfect, close enough to places to visit, and nicely tucked away in the outdoors. It was a nice place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the city and no one to disturb you. We had everything we needed and didn't need to bother the owners at all during our stay. Booking was easy and communication clear. The casita was very clean and nicely kept. Nice decor, modern bathrooms, yet homey, and very comfortable beds. There's the convenience of a small kitchen with basic amenities to store and cook whatever food you bring. Loved the porch sitting area. There's even a small pool on the property which is nice if you want to stay close by, but we didn't get to use it since we chose to splash at Riemer's Ranch in the Pedernales River instead. I happen to run across this place in my search of places around Pedernales Falls park area. It was kind of last minute planning, so was very lucky to have been able to make some reservations a little over month ago. We weren't able to get passes to visit Pedernales Falls park since those reservations go fast, but there were other parks/reserves in the Dripping Springs area to visit as well, great for kids. Close to Hamilton Pool Reserve (although unfortunately the grotto behind the falls were closed due to falling rocks from the Texas freeze back in Feb) and the pool had too much bacteria to take a dip, Milton Riemers Ranch which has access to the clean Pedernales River, and Westcave Discovery center. Plenty of wineries and distilleries in the area to tour and visit. Very quiet place, although we did stay during the weekdays, but it worked out for my family. Lots of places to hike even on the casita grounds, and after a busy afternoon exploring the outdoors, it felt great to come back and relax in our own casita. If I had a complaint, it would be that the wifi signal is not very strong at times, but enough to do simple stuff, which I don't mind, because would force your kids to have to interact in person and get off their electronics, lol. We would love to come back and hopefully be able find a reservation on a weekend that works for us, but it seems the dates I want are already full! I will have to find another time that will hopefully work because we really want...
