10/10 great experience! Went for 1 day before Memorial Day weekend and stayed in the Annie-Ger. My boyfriend enjoys camping and being outside and I prefer nice hotels. I was weary at first because even though I was born and raised Texas I am very much a city girl. I prepared for the worst but all for nothing.
First off, the cleanliness! I was prepared for areas to be dusty, naturally it's outside, but no, clean, perfect. I didn't need to wipe down anything which is rare for me. Everything was setup and ready to use.
Amenities were great, took advantage of the BBQ grill, the fireplace, the jacuzzi, TV. Sure a few insects were encountered but nothing crazy or unexpected. Never needed mosquito spray. No flies.
Inside the yurt stays cool with the AC. We got lucky and caught a thunderstorm in the middle of the night. It was a great way to sleep as the rain poured on the yurt. In the morning we cleaned up and packed up and enjoyed the pour over coffee provided.
And yes my boyfriend loved it. Loved the privacy and being able to share the experience with me.
We were sad to leave but hope to visit again (and longer).
Accessibility: I walk with a cane and use a wheelchair part time. Walking from the car to the yurt was a challenge but doable. It is not far, but the ground is dirt, rocks, etc (as expected). A couple of steps to get inside. Inside I could have use my wheelchair on the first floor but the area was easy to walk on and flat and chair stayed in the car. You will need to be able to take a big step to get in and out of the yurt but manageable. We did not inform The Yurtopian of needing accommodations but would recommend offering a shower chair/stool and ramp to get inside the yurt. Ideally a handle in and outside but understand that could take away from the aesthetic. The upstairs is a winding staircase but not much you can do. Though the handrail was solid (and also very clean) - my hands didn't have dirt as most outdoor railings typically do. I only went up and down once but it's doable if done slowly....
Read moreA friend wanted to do this for her 40th bday gathering of friends. Just know what you're getting into. The setting is lovely when the sun is out with sweeping views of the area. At night, it felt like the setting of a horror film. Bring all your provisions and tons of bug repellent. Wear your shoes everywhere as a few scorpions were found on the deck areas of some of the yurts. The bathroom and shower are outside. That's where a mouse ran across my foot. The yurts smell like the hides they are made of, but you can't spray anything to quell the smell. You are very isolated. Luckily, our group bought out the property (I believe there are 12 yurts in total). Otherwise, I don't know about personal safety and sharing the space with strangers. You can lock your yurt, but not the gated entrance to your space. We had no internet or cell service where we were. The owner notified us of the problem as we were arriving. So it made for difficult work communications and getting in touch with family. Not as advertised. It would be nice if you like this kind of thing. Not my style. But I guess I would recommend it to my friends who camp and enjoy...
Read moreA true hidden gem in the Texas hill country! We celebrated our 7th anniversary with a cross-state trip of our native Texas. On our way back, we happened upon Yurtopian through Google Maps, and thank goodness we did! The amenities of a private outdoor bathroom and shower was invigorating. Charles whipped up a delicious steak dinner on the grill utilizing their greatly stocked outdoor grill/kitchenette area. The plunge pool/hot tub was a huge tension release. We watched a much anticipated movie on the outdoor TV while soaking. Afterward, we sat around the fire pit and just vegged out. The view of the sky on the upper deck was breathtaking. The real charm of The Yurtopian is, of course, the absolutely amazing handmade Mongolian Yurts. Spacious, welcoming, and climate controlled with enough outlets for charging our electronics. The bed was blissfully comfortable. The hand painted details on the doors and framing of the yurt were stunning. The brief history of yurts in the welcome book was fascinating. We plan on making this a yearly retreat for us. I could not recommend this resort highly enough. Truly a...
