We shall return! Wasn't exactly sure what to expect but was blown away when we arrived. The scenery and location of the cabins really was enough for the 8 of us! The kids spent most of the time bonding in the cabin while us adults had our feet up in lawn chairs all weekend it seemed. The kitchen was well stocked with pots pans and utinsels. All you should bring with you are linens (sheets, pillowcases, towels, dishtowels, paper towels) and your own food ofcourse. Everything else is provided. Comforters and blankets are there as well but if your particular bring your own. Very lovely place!!!!

Nice view of lake and reasonable amenities. Kitchen was stocked with plates/pots/utensils. Bathroom was small but functional. You will likely need to bring your own bedding (sheets, pillowcases, blankets), towels, food. There is limited firewood available, might want to bring more if you plan on having a fire longer than 3 hours a day. The owners were very personable and we enjoyed our time here.

We have stayed in a lot of cabins before and this is by far the least pleasing one. I have never left a review either, but I have never really been this disappointed with our accommodations. We have never have to pay extra for linens (towels and bed sheets), that is always included in our stay. I have never been asked to vacuum and clean up before we left, although we clean up after ourselves but never had to vacuum. We stayed in cabin 3 which is near the horses and it stank the whole time we were there when we go out of the cabin. It was a really dated cabin, the stairs is so narrow and steep, it was so scary! Our electricity in the cabin tripped and we were left with no electricity for most of the cabin except for maybe 2 lights that somehow stayed lit. We had no cell service and could not call the owner and there is no landline to use. It was nighttime and my husband was in the middle of a shower so he was left to shower in the dark. We slept with no heat (and it was cold during our stay there) with our 2 little girls, and we were barely able to find outlets that can charge our phones. There were only 2 space heaters for the cabin and since there was no power, it got pretty cold, especially the upstairs where we slept was pitch black and had no power completely. my husband tried to email the owners as well. With the very narrow steps and carpet on the stairs, I fell down the very steep stairs and hit my lower back and scraped my arm. I am a young person and always careful but with it being dark on top of the dangerous stairs, I slipped. When my husband went to the office in the morning and we told the owner what happened, she didn't say much other than the stairs are not up to code because these are old cabins. She didn't offer any discount or anything for the inconvenience. Plus, the hot water ran out even on the first night and i had to finish my shower with cold water and we told her that, too! There was a fire place but with no wood. They have cut wood but you have to walk down the path and lug your own firewood. There aren't any kindling or anything to help start the fire either! Added touches like that can help ease the stay. Plus, they expect you to clean up the fireplace before you leave. The view is pretty but the fishing area near the cabins is not the greatest. Pretty rocky and shallow. We had to drive out farther to find a better spot. The owners are nice enough but not enough for us to come back and recommend to...

I took my sons and our dog to a week vacation at Croll cabins in June. I am very happy I have found this place and would recommend it to other families who want an old fashioned, relaxing, easy-going getaway from it all. If you want a lot of action, afraid to miss your TV show, need top-notch appliances and must stay connected 24/7, this place is probably not for you. These cabins are quite basic, but have everything you need. There is no TV, but we had a DVD player and the owners let you use their movie library for free. No central heating, so it was getting chilly at night, but it was a great reason to start the fireplace; the boys loved it. The kitchen had all the plates, cups, pans for me to cook breakfast and dinner on the stove, plus gas grill, coffee maker and big fridge. You do have to bring all the food you might need. The property is beautiful. The lake is out of this world gorgeous. We passed other cabins on our way, and I really think this location is the best to enjoy the Vallecito: you have your own secluded piece of the lake. Enough of space for everyone to relax and enjoy peace and quiet; yet having a few neighbors, the owner and the managers living on site game me piece of mind at night. The general store is 15 minutes drive away and has drinks, milk, canned food, and even few veggies, fresh deli and sausages. However, it is best to bring your own supplies, just to be safe. There are 2-3 cafes 10 to 20 minutes away if you want to eat out. Also a small Marina to rent a fishing boat. Lastly: the owner, his family and the managers at Croll Cabins are extremely easy going, kind and friendly. They were very kind and patient with my children and our dog. Truly a wonderful place to rest your body and soul, let your kids detox from all the media, and get them dirty and wet...

Disappointed

(The Armstrong Library is lakefront two story cabin with great lake and mountain views from the screened porch and huge lakeside lawn.) - This is misleading. When we arrived there were two campers and a tent on the lawn blocking our view of the lake. We had planned on fishing and were worried about disturbing these people. Come to find out that the campers came every year to this lawn because of some kind of ownership with the land? (TV/DVD/Wireless Internet) Our phones did not register any wifi in the area. When we asked about it, the answer we got was "It works for some people. And some people it dont." O_o (Linen: Bring your own OR $10/per person per stay) Great, fine, I understand that. But there are no towels. Make sure you bring some. The stairs leading to the top floor are very narrow. Be careful you do not hit your head.

Some added tips if you plan on staying here. The road is long and very bumpy gravel. Be careful if you arrive by car. Road is narrow and uphill traffic has right of way you will need to pull over. Shore is made of large rocks. Make sure you have everything you need because the nearest store closes at 7pm, then you will have to go to Durango Walmart. You will be required to clean the cabin before you leave, make beds, vacuum, clean stove, clean grill, scrub bathroom etc etc. Cabin is right next to...
