EXTREMELY rude staff. Just called to ask a few questions about my reservation and was treated horribly. The lady was so rude and unaccommodating that I ended up cancelling my reservation. I found a great place, Mystic, that has extremely friendly, super helpful, and accommodating staff. EDIT: In regards to the owners response - I appreciate you taking the time to respond but that’s not at all what happened. I understand the policy of not allowing visitors during COVID and that’s fine. When I went online to book the site it said “up to 8 people.” but when I called trying to book for 4 people the lady told me on the phone that 8 people only means 2 adults and 6 kids and that I couldn’t have 4 adults on one campground. (But I can have 6 kids??? Makes no sense lol And how are 2 adults and 6 kids in one tent allowed, but just 4 adults in one tent isn’t? ) It said NOTHING on the KOA website that 8 people means 2 adults and 6 kids. When I asked her how I would have known that, because it’s not the norm for a family to have 6 kids, she replied “I’m OFFENDED, I have 6 kids” Ummmm..okay that’s fine that you have six kids but that’s still not the average number of kids that the average family has in the US and it sure as heck is not the first thing people assume when it says 8 people that it means 2 adults and 6 kids. And when I asked if we could have 2 small tents instead of one big one she said no. I don’t understand how two small tents with 2 people each would be double the amount of people than one tent with 4 people in it, it’s literally the same thing and takes up the same space. She could have worked with me and at least tried to find me another site close to mine and offered that but instead I got attitude and had to ask her myself if there was another site nearby. I was literally willing to spend double the money and she wanted nothing to do with helping me out. The other campground I booked is in CT and they had NO PROBLEM with allowing 2 small tents with 2 people in each on one site. It was mostly the way your front desk lady who answered the phone spoke to me. I felt extremely unwanted and she even cut me off in the middle of asking questions and said in a nasty tone “Do you want me to just cancel the reservation?!” Like she was annoyed with me trying to figure everything out and didn’t want to spend any time helping me and would just rather me cancel the reservation. You guys should be nice to your customers and try to work with them or use the words “I”m sorry” instead of being jerks to everyone. She could have easily just explained everything calmly and nicely and everything would be fine. She was literally making no sense. Just look at all the reviews, I’m not the only one who has complained about her. She knows nothing about customer service and I don’t know how you still have her as an employee, especially the front desk employee who deals with people the most. I’m literally appalled at the way I was treated. I’ve never written a google review before but this really was wrong. I’ve been in customer service for over 15 years and it was completely awful the way she handled...
Read moreWe stayed Labor Day weekend 2025 with our kids ages 4, 5, 7, & 13. Camping is new to us with this trip only being our second time. Check in was easy and an escort to our pull through site was provided. Staff drove by as we were setting up the camper and offered help. Although we did not need it, it was great to have it offered. Hook up was easy and there was a picnic table and fire pit on site. Firewood and ice was only a phone call away to be delivered to the site. There is a food truck onsite offering breakfast and dinner options. Complimentary waffles M-Th which was a hit with our kids. The town was close by to go into if we didn’t want to grill or wanted to eat out. Bathhouses and dish washing stations were in close walking distance. They were in decent shape and had hot water. There were scheduled daily activities for our kids to have something to look forward to between bike riding, going to the heated pool and nearby beaches. There was a continuous coin hunt that allowed the kids to trade in for prizes/candy and was a good incentive for all of us to be out walking the grounds. Staff drove by in the evening to replenish our sites with coins. KOA offered a complimentary shuttle to the beaches or (limited amount of) passes if you wanted to take your car that waived the parking fee, as well as a fire truck and wagon ride throughout the grounds. Our kids did the seashell painting and they loved it. We also played at the playground and the Gaga pit. When trading in our coins, the staff was very nice and made sure our kids left smiling. We initially went in thinking we may not even have enough to trade in for a prize but she made sure the 3 of them left happy (THANK YOU!). When packing up, a staff member came by just in time and took our garbage on his golf-cart. Dumping was easy & a staff member was even there to hook up for us to dump. There were plenty of kids, families and dogs there and everyone was friendly but not invasive. We enjoyed an afternoon at Rocky Neck Beach which had showers right at the entrance with some concessions, super close to camp. There is a walking/bike trail to get there and to the package/convenience store right from camp. We chose to drive our truck there since passes were already taken but they did take our campsite # and called us when one was available. We didn’t utilize it but it was great that they called when it was available. Our kids loved being able to ride their bikes and interact with other kids. Our 13 year old took the trail with dad to Rocky Neck in the AM & enjoyed his time away from his phone too. It was a great way to unplug and be outdoors. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and went...
Read moreThe location is great there's plenty of trees it's close to Rocky Neck very close to Old Lyme which is beautiful and so is Niantic. The prices are fair. Some of the sites are very nice but most of the best ones are reserve for seasonal campers as probably most parks.
There are a lot of seasonal campers there that have a lot of stuff at their site which makes it look kind of like trailer trash because it seems like there are no rules about how much stuff and what type of stuff you have to display for everyone when they drive by.
The service is decent. They are available to help when you are getting set up as well as monitoring the area for wrongdoers. The speed limit is only 5 miles an hour throughout the whole Campground. You will be reprimanded and possibly kicked out if you go 6 mph or higher.
There are a lot of dogs the property and there is a fire engine that comes around often to take children for rides and turn the siren on all over the park it is quite annoying but it is the one with the best price around here so you have to put up with the fire engine siren to get a good price.
If you ask me if the staff was friendly and courteous if I were to answer that truthfully I wouldn't want to say mean and nasty things about people but friendly and courteous is not a requirement for being on staff although probably the majority of their staff Is friendly and professional. But I wouldn't let that deter you from this park because as long as you follow the rules no one will bite your head off make sure you know what the rules are and make sure you follow every single last rule every minute of every day while you are there.
There is a small pet park with a bench. The best thing this park has going for them is the location and the price.
Oh by the way there are a lot of potholes and large rocks that you will have to drive over to get to almost any site once you get to the site you will be fine but your front end might not be. Not so great for cars but large sport utilities and RVs can handle the bumps with no problem.
Niantic in Old Lyme are two of the most beautiful towns in all of Connecticut don't let little things cause you not to come here There are so many spots in this area where everyone can enjoy the beautiful Marsh areas inlets ponds and Long Island Sound. It's also not as congested as some vacation areas.
This is where Lyme disease originated and if you go walking I recommend to stay on the path and stay away from tall grass and overgrown brush . Keep your eye out for wildlife, the water views, the sunsets and sunrises. I hope you enjoy Connecticut and our...
