My wife and I were flying into Atlanta late on a Friday evening and planning to catch a shuttle from the airport to the hotel. Our flight was delayed by an hour, meaning we weren't going arrive until 1 am, so I called the hotel to make sure the shuttle was still available. The desk clerk assured me that the shuttle would be able to pick us up and told me to call when we landed to have the shuttle come pick us up. As instucted, I called when we got off the plane and was told the shuttle driver was on her way. After getting our bags and waiting for 20 minutes at the shuttle stand outside, I called the hotel again, since it was only 10 minutes away, to make sure we were in the right place. The clerk told me that we were in the right place and said again that the shuttle was on its way then hung up. 10 minutes later, a Quality Inn shuttle arrived, but when I spoke to the driver, he said he was from a different Quality Inn (and said that he didn't like the Quality Inn we were planning to stay at). I called the desk a third time, and was told a third time that the shuttle was on its way, but this time the clerk asked for my name and reservation before hanging up. 10 minutes later, I received a call from the desk clerk that she could not find the shuttle driver and that we would have to take a cab, then hung up again. The shuttle driver from the other Quality Inn then kindly offered to take us to Quality Inn West, and told us about how he used to work for the Quality Inn West but didn't like the new management and refused to work there any more. When we arrived at our hotel, we had to wait another 10 minutes for the desk clerk to buzz us through the door, since it was about 2:30 am. The clerk then checked our name and reservation before leaving the desk for another 5 minutes. She came back and told us that she "wanted to make sure our room was clean." Not a good sign at 2:30 am. Finally, we got checked in and got into our room at 3:00 am. The room was pretty poor quality, but mostly clean, although there was a spot of mildew on the bathroom ceiling. The hotel is right next to the Interstate, and the traffic noise and streetlights easily came through the thin window and curtains all night. The air conditioner also had an unhealthy-sounding rattle to it. The bed was also very firm. Breakfast, which was available only until 9 am, was unsurprisingly rubbery eggs and sausage swimming with grease, so we opted for some very dry, make-it-yourself waffles and dishwater coffee. The breakfast room floor and tables were all very sticky. I had planned to catch the shuttle back to the airport to pick up a rental car, and had told the desk clerk the night before that I would like to leave around 9 am. Since we got into our room very late the night before and slept poorly, I was running a little behind, but was out front for the shuttle at 9:05 am; however, the shuttle driver was nowhere to be found. I went inside and asked the clerk if the driver was coming. She said that he was and that I should wait for him outside. After another 5 minutes, the driver came up and with a very put-upon attitude told me, "I wasn't sure you were coming. I was about to leave." ...I will not be...
Read moreI hovered over giving this hotel an average rating, but I couldn't do it. As a matter of fact, when I booked through HotWire and got this as my hotel I wanted to eat the $125 I'd paid for the weekend stay because having lived in Atlanta previously, I knew that this hotel used to be abandoned and in a horrible area. That notwithstanding, I read the few reviews and decided I'd give it a shot anyway. With that being said...
Pros: The hotel is brand new (as I said before...it was abandoned - as in you could see straight through the building a few years ago.) and the STAFF (especially the General Manager) is BAR NONE! You'd NEVER get the level of service they all provided at a larger hotel downtown or even around the corner so I have to applaud them for that.
Cons: The room was stale. Very stale. Actually, it smelled horrible akin to an old gym. The heating unit caused the drapes to blow outward and there was no way to secure them to keep it from happening. Opening them wasn't an option because there wasn't a curtain on the window and no tint to prevent the myriad of random people hanging out in front from looking inside your room. It was either invite someone to watch you from outside or freeze to death. The area is WELL LIT so they would have been able to see VERY well inside. The fridge didn't work in my room, but I didn't figure that out until I went back for the drink I put inside. The comfortable mattress, wasn't. I couldn't tell if the bed was broken or what, but it seemed as if the foot of the bed was higher than the head and lumpy. The bathroom, while large, wasn't particularly clean in that, the white bathtub was yellowed and the caulk was greyish black.
Seeing as I only paid $40 a night I couldn't much complain, but I wouldn't stay here again (even if HotWire DID...
Read moreFirst of all, Wyndham has a certain standard, but since buying up these motels and slapping their name on them, the brand has gone downhill. This particular location was not as it was pictured so that was my first disappointment. The girl at the front desk either didn't know what she was doing, or was just not considerate of other peoples' time. A guest was there before me, and it took her almost fifteen minutes to my knowledge to check him in. Prior to my arrival, I booked online and chose an arrival time. What's the point in that when I arrived at 3PM and a room was still not available? She had to call around to different staff members until she got someone and had them clean a specific room, which I had to wait an additional 20 minutes for. Then, she HANDS ME two face towels which were not properly clean. She tried to say that the red stain on the vanilla-colored towel was thread. No. You could tell someone wiped their makeup off on it and the laundry staff didn't care enough to use more bleach or wash it again. The other towel was gray-ish. Had to wait some more time until she gave me two brand new towels. When I finally got into my room, I could see the shoe prints of the staff on the hardwood floors, meaning they didn't have enough time to let the floor dry before they trekked through. The corners of the tub and bathroom were not properly clean, so i had to do it myself. The AC unit had a build-up of dust, so I didn't bother to use it. This was not what I was accustomed to when visiting a Wyndham. If you go, don't look at the carpets, touch anything without sanitizing it first, and enjoy the trashbins at each intersection or end of the hall that are either overflowing or just not closed which makes the halls...
