I really wanted to be able to rate this place higher but just can't. What a disappointment. First, Google sent us in the back way, down some horrible road that was longer than it needed to be. Then, when we got to the site, we couldn't find the tent camp, which was marked with one very small, dark sign. We ended up having to wake the host. Once we were settled, we tried to use the restroom (the big draw for a paid site was the fact that there were toilets and showers). To our surprise they were locked. Yup. Locked. From 7pm to 7am. So if you want to use the bathroom or clean up- do it during the day while the sun is shining. Supposedly the reason is that people from town keep sneaking in to use the facilities. I assumed the reason for camp hosts was to deal with things like that, not lock paying guests out, but what do I know? And one side complaint from my 9yo- the swings are clearly designed for an adult. If you're under 5 feet there's no way you're getting up there without help. Fyi- I took advantage of the free time I had from 11:00am until 3:01pm, as I waited for someone to unlock the showers, to write this review. Wait...what?! That's not between 7pm and 7am?! Hmmm....well, the host went to town so I guess they were too busy to allow guests to shower today. 3:03pm.....still no shower but I guess the review is done!

Online it says first come first serve; there are signs to get you to the office on the west side of the campground. We pulled around the loop to the office and were greeted by Becky, the very helpful and friendly host! She brought us out an envelope asked us how long we were staying (1 night during the week) and told us to drive around and pick a spot. We decided to stay at the full hookup site closest to the lake. There are cones put out because the local Oklahoma folks can reserve for the upcoming weekend but they will always try to do their best to fit in the folks just travelling through even if it's on the other end where there is just water and electric. The park is beautiful and kept very clean and the grass mowed wonderfully. The camp hosts are always out and about checking on the bathrooms, trash and any guest needs. Great places for walking our cat (or dogs) along a nice grassy open space. There are paved walking/bike paths around the park as well. We absolutely wished we could have stayed longer and wanted to try out Sid's diner for the famous onion burger and coney dogs. Even though we couldn't see the highway there was some hum of traffic from it but that is the only nitpicky thing I could say about this place. I hope our travels make it this way again so we can come back to visit!

We have stayed in the OKC area in the past at a much more costly campground and decided to give this park a chance. Because of the time of the year, early November, the staff assured us we would have no trouble getting a site at this first come first serve campground. She gave us instructions on where to come for FHU sites and told us in advance that it was cash or check. We arrived early in the afternoon and were able to get a site for the weekend. When we checked in, we were informed about the laundry facility. We were able to get our laundry done at a very reasonable price of $2.50 a load washed and dried in front load Maytag commercial washer and dryers. The office had quarters for purchase. Although we didn’t use the shower house, it appeared to be in good shape and clean. The park was conveniently located near I40 and you certainly could hear the traffic, but it was no unpleasant, just white background noise. For the price of $25 a night, this park was a good value and the sites were spacious. It was a pleasant place to walk the dog. The only thing that would prevent me from returning here again would be the need to be assured of a place to stay. Our last time through OKC was Memorial Day weekend and I am not sure I could risk a holiday weekend to a first come, first served.
