This is a home course (sorta) since I work in El Reno. The staff are very friendly, accommodating, and have a sense of urgency to help. The grill and bar is a great spot to stop for lunch. My review of the course is listed below:
Driving Range- Enough room to hit but could use distance markers clearly labeled. the hitting surface is very indicative of the course:rough, spotty, and hard.
Putting Area: very well kept. ball rolls nicely and excellent shape to chip, bump and run, or flop around the edges
Tee Boxes - the tee boxes need major soil work: not leveled, dry or little chance to create a divot, and needs manicured more often. As a left handed player, I'm mostly always hitting with the ball above my feet off the tee.
Fairways and rough - I mostly find these not up to par with the membership cost or the cost of a round. They are hard, poorly managed, and often mix together where the you cant define where one ends and the other begins. This is mostly due to the obvious lack of detail to pretreating weeds, not mowing, and no sign of aeration. Still playable but you can often find yourself scratching your head when your ball is lost on the fairway.
Greens area - This is the darling of the course. Somehow with the lack of attention to other areas, the greens are spectacular. They roll well, are challenging at times and your ball sticks with a great shot. the fringe and rough; however, need major work: weed infested and frankly not up to par.
Environment: the front 9 offers some great views. The houses lining the first few holes starts the course off great and that continues though hole 4 and again as you finish 7-9. The back 9 is where the course falls apart as far as view (besides the lake). It at times has an arid or desert feel and the course reflects that by the poor conditions of the actual course.
Overall - I would play here again and again as its very convenient. Its worth noting that the labor is done by inmates and a few staff. This could explain the course management or it could make one think they are charging $28 a round and $1400 a year for membership but not putting the money needed back into the course. My guess is they are lacking a true course management professional due to the area or inability to pay the salary. This course has the ability to be a gem for western Oklahoma but is lacking...
Read moreTo start I've played this course many times over the past 15 years and had a blast so today I had the same expectations! Tee time was for 10am with my Father. Walked into the clubhouse to pay for the green fee and cart etc.. Everything was fine.. Green fee for nine holes with cart came to around $25 no biggie. Forgot to buy balls originally so grabbed two sleeves of balls brought them to the counter and first off there was no price tags on any of the golf balls but being an avid golfer I know the prices of most brands..I get to the counter to pay for two sleeves of Bridgestone balls and they tell me it's $28! At this point I didn't care was just ready to play! Everything is great until hole #3. Par 3. I hit my tee shot just right off the back edge and proceeded to wait for my Dad to go to his tee box and hit his shot.. Before he got to hit his shot a maintenance worker pulled up literally 2 feet from the fringe of the green behind the flag stick and waved at my Dad to go ahead and hit. Needless to say this gentleman working for the course was 1. In our line of sight. 2. Parking where he parked was super unsafe in case one of our balls hit him. 3. Terrible golf etiquette... You work here and should know better. I confronted this gentleman about the situation and he could care less so I picked up my ball and we moved on. Hole #4 is where I really was done with it. After my tee shot on #4 I looked back to the green on hole #3 where I had my confrontation with this gentleman and he was surrounded by his fellow maintenance workers talking about what had just happened. EVERY hole after the confrontation the sprinklers were turned on the green right before I would hit my second shot. At this point it was on purpose. We quit on hole 8 and called it a day. We will not be back ever again and would not recommend this course to anyone! I will be reaching out to management to follow up about...
Read moreI am not a golfer, but my husband is starting to get back into it. We had fun together at this course. We went during twilight hours to get a cheaper rate. They have a parking lot where you'll check in, get your tee time, and a cart. You could also schedule online. Carts are gas-powered, which makes it jarring to get going but makes for a fun ride. He played just 9 holes and we were there for about 2 hours, with no one directly in front or behind us. Course was mowed and the water jugs were full. Some holes had a 'par aide' ball washer, picture included. It was a nice breezy day, and I've never joined someone in golf before, but I would definitely come back. There was a $12 fee for me to just ride along and watch. We had fun looking for the ball after he hit it, and I just listened to an audiobook while he was teeing up. The cart path was fully concrete and it was okay, some cracks and spots where it broke up. There are some wooden bridges to drive over. Some hole maps need updating or new paint. There was some trash but it wasn't crazy. I'm probably not the reviewer you were expecting, but I hope it was helpful...
