July 2023, My family decided to visit Shawnee National Forest once again for a week and we chose to stay the whole time at Shawnee Forest Cabins. This is now our fifth stay and it just gets better each time. We booked months before to secure our favorite cabin. This time we were surprised by the addition of a 4 person Jacuzzi Hot Tub to an outside patio of the cabin with a privacy fence and pagoda. We were thrilled to find out they had just been installed about a month before.
The hot tub is awesome and easy to operate and to get in and out of. It has lights and there are additional lights hung from the pagoda for wonderful atmosphere and mood setting. The cabin remains at the high standards we have come to appreciate with every visit. We had some minor issues with supplies but we texted the staff and we were taken care of in reasonable time. The staff is very respectful and responsive whenever I've called or texted them which was important to me since there is no one on-site but it doesn't hinder them from my experience. I would recommend staying here to all my friends and in fact some long time friends joined us for a couple days stay in a One Bedroom cabin when they found out we were staying here.
June 2020, we were able to stay for a nice getaway before the COVID lockdowns and so glad we were able to enjoy our vacation before all the changes and sad events of that year.
June 2017, My family and I have chosen to stay here twice for vacation. Usually we stay for 3 days to take in the various attractions nearby. Garden of the Gods, Rim Rock Trails, Pound Hallow, and anything else we would find as we drove around. The cabin is modern, comfortable, clean and very affordable. We could easily sleep six but the four of us made it very comfortable. Appliances work perfectly, cable TV, and WiFi is available. Sprint cell service is not available so ask ahead of time related to yours. There is a grill, picnic table, and fire pit available at each cabin. We never had an issue with any stay and I consider it one of our favorite places to stay. Would like to try a stay in the Fall for pre-holiday getaway, I think it would be very relaxing. The owners are very responsive and helpful, and to their credit the place shows that they take care of the place. (Updated from June 2017,...
Read moreShawnee Forest Cabins are absolutely exceptional! My wife and I came here for our honeymoon, and immediately loved it!
The cabin was very clean and tidy on the inside when we got there. It was fairly small, but it didn't feel cramped or tight, and we had plenty of space for our clothes and food. All of the wood paneling on the walls and the wood flooring made the whole place feel very cozy.
The kitchen came with many amenities such as pots, pans, cooking utensils, cutting board, plates, glasses, mugs, silverware, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, and probably some other things I'm forgetting. There was also a TV with cable and a DVD player, but we didn't use them much.
The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was very nice and clean. All of the bedding was included along with towels, washcloths, and soap in the bathroom.
The location was also very nice. We could look out of our cabin right into the woods. In our particular spot, we frequently had a humming bird flu up to our door or pirch on a tree hear the cabin. The cabins are only a few minutes from The Gardener of the gods Observation Trail and Indian Point Trail. There are also many other trails in addition to these. Also, there is a Walmart in a town about a 20 minute drive away in the event of needing food or supplies.
There were a couple of very minor drawbacks. The time of year we went was rather bad for bugs. So, in the evening when we went to get in the hot tub, there were a large number of bugs attracted to the lights on the deck. This problem could probably be very easily solved by somehow adding a mosquito net around the deck area. Also, the wifi was rather slow and the reception was very poor, but both of these were to be expected with how remote the location was, and it really wasn't much of a problem at all.
The people who run the cabins were very friendly and accommodating, and made booking the cabin a breeze.
Overall, our stay was wonderful! We will definitely be returning in the future and also highly recommend it to our family...
Read moreStayed in the tree house from 9/9/24 - 9/13. Where to even start! Amazing! Just like others, close to all the trails/natural wonders! The tree house cabin was nice n clean! (professional house cleaner here). Lots of amenities for a quick stay, pack anything you think you may want since Walmart is a 30min drive away, however, we planned a different hike near it to grab anything else we needed after day one to make it convenient. Hot tub (also incredibly clean) was a huge help at the end of a day before firing up the grill and ending with a fire under the stars. In the mornings we made breakfast then sat on our deck & got to enjoy a very cute owl. The hose was so easy to use to add water to the hotub since we stayed a week. Lightweight, easy to wrap back up. However we also could have called & the hosts would have done it while we were away but if you are introverts like us, having everything to do anything yourself available was top notch! Just something to note incase you wanna hose off or spray down anything. it's available! All the trails were so close and we even did a few farther out. Excellent accomodations with no one bothering you unless YOU want left us at such ease & in full relaxation mode. I can't think of a single downside to this trip & as much as we'd love to keep this gem to ourselves....ugh...go! Go go go! Thank you to our hosts for dreaming up this beautiful place to reconnect & have a peaceful vacation/ bday get away/ late honey moon in such a beautiful area! - Kurt & Bri.
P.s. We also loved the irony of arriving at the time the treehouse tour was originally posted that I watched about 100 times over the month waiting for this trip 😂😅 enjoy your stay fellow...
