Please read my honest review before paying too much attention to the other reviews here. Aguila Lodge is a Lodge on the Jacks Fork River in Eminence Missouri. This is an area frequented by nature lovers, college students, outdoorsman types, adventurous families, etc..
Therefore if you are seeking luxurious amenities, not only are you at the wrong motel/cabin but you are in the wrong part of the country. I have stayed at the Aguila Motel 3 times over the past four years and had a mostly positive experience with each visit.
I've never saw a rat, mouse, roach or brown recluse in any of the rooms in which I have stayed. I returned today from three nights there and didn't see a single insect of any kind inside of my room. Obviously I can only speak for the rooms in which I have stayed and only on the days I have stayed there.
You can research Brown Recluse Spiders and clearly see that they are rarely ever visible, hence the name "recluse." This sounds like a disgruntled former guest or associate trying to wreck the reputation of a good business in my opinion. How many reviews are you going to post? who is John Juenger and why would he take a strangers word for it? - before "skipping this place."
The younger people staying here can be loud on some nights, which is my only major complaint. Again considering the location and who frequents the region you either get along or move along. I was often loud at their ages too and they are enjoying themselves in their own way. The motel is very basic accommodations, clean but only the necessities. My experience at the Steakhouse was their food was "okay," a true 5 on a scale of 1-10 but I've only dined there one time.
I didn't see any rusty nails sticking up everywhere either, LOL. It is a country location so there could be an occasional exposed nail but these other reviews are way over the top.
I spoke with the maid yesterday and she was exceptionally friendly to me, inquiring if I needed anything, if we were enjoying our stay, etc..
There is a good view of the Jacks Fork River from the rooms or cabins and you will see people floating past at all hours. The room is a typical size but bathroom is very small, at least in the motel. There is a tub, shower, sink, satellite television.
Again I would not choose this location simply for the room but if you want a decent place to stay where you can be picked up by one of the many local kayak rentals, taken to your start point, float all day and returned to your motel or cabin then this place is ideal. We always enjoy the beauty and nature in this area, it is second to none for the Midwestern...
Read moreSorry for the long review, but I like being thorough. :) People come to Eminence to enjoy the outdoors. If you are looking for five star accommodation, then a city hotel would likely be your best bet. But if you are seeking a relaxing, clean and perfectly placed cabin to hang your hat for a couple of quiet days, then this is your place. I work for a big and busy KC law firm and after finishing trial recently, knew it was time for some r&r. I stayed in Cabin 4 for two nights. It is right on the river, so you can sit outside on the wood deck and sip your coffee while watching the morning mist hang over Jack's Fork's emerald water. Don't forget to print a map or note the exact location before you leave. My Verizon didn't have roaming data in Eminence, so geolocation and Google Maps were useless. Fortunately it's a piece of cake to find. I arrived right at check-in time. My cabin's air had already been running most of the day, so it was pleasantly cool. It was clean and had everything I needed, including a fridge, microwave, satellite TV, coffee, a small dining table, and plenty of electrical outlets (which, surprisingly, are a big deal to me these days). Good hot water and nice towels. I recommend bringing your own shampoo/soap. Some was provided (which smelled great), but it's easier using your own. Now, it's good to remember a couple of things here. This cabin is on a popular (and beautiful) river. That means people and kids are in and out of it every week after wading around out in the water. It's also humid in Missouri in the summertime. So of course there may be a faint scent of dampness ... welcome to Missouri. But it was obvious to me that management works to keep this place clean and is interested in taking care of it and doing a good job for its patrons. I didn't get to try the saloon/steakhouse because it is only open on weekends, so I can't speak to it. But I enjoyed my stay here and would definitely come back again. Best points: *close to Current, right on Jack's Fork; *really close to Alley Spring, Round Spring, and a host of State Parks in addition to the National Scenic Riverways; *close to Big Spring, and close enough to head up to Johnson's Shut-Ins or Elephant Rocks for a day; *good price; *perfect view of the river. Only minor drawbacks noted: *older, soft beds; *there's an old shed on the property that looks like it might be better suited to a farm, but who cares. Just get...
Read moreNothing in me wants to leave a negative review. This makes me sad. We stayed in room 12. Just think people need to know what to expect. Here were our issues: very unclean, long black hairs left in shower, mold growing in bathroom, 2 pills and popcorn were on the floor when we arrived so they didn’t vacuum, an electrical outlet was completely bare without a cover, and bare wires sticking out of the wall the ac was stuck on 61 and there was no way to unplug it and the wireless ac remote didn’t work, literally freezing for 2 nights and had to keep the front door open to let out some of the cold air, and the worst part was they never answered the phone, no way to leave a voicemail, didn’t respond to email, and no one was in the office for 3 days so they took our money and offered literally zero assistance after we arrived. We paid a deposit on a cabin which they called the next day saying they made a mistake that we would have to stay in the hotel, which seriously is understandable, sometimes things just happen, but the entire experience was not good. The view is pretty but to pay $109+ fees for a room so poorly maintained with no assistance while onsite is not acceptable. There was also no parking because the patrons at the bar next door took up the parking so we had to park in a different parking lot and carry all of our bags through 2 gravel parking lots. If you stay in the hotel, just know it’s camp-style, bugs everywhere because it’s on the river, so expect to rough it a little. Which is totally fine. The issue is poor maintenance, lack of cleanliness, serious safety concerns especially for children with pills left on the floor and electrical outlets without covers, and bare wires sticking out of the wall, and zero assistance as we paid to freeze 2 nights and 3 days. We frequent Eminence a few times a year and will not visit if Eagle’s Landing is the only...
