There are two distinct camping areas, one that has only full hookup sites, the other for those of us who don't require the grid. All the campsites are divided into three tiers with Premium being the most desirable (for reasons from proximity to bathrooms or park features to being outside the main travel paths in and outside the park), Basic being just that, and all the ones in between, with each priced accordingly. The three "primitive" types cost $20 (Basic), $25 (Standard) & $30 (Premium). We opted for site 26, a Premium site, and it was totally worth it. Most of the campsites are in a giant open grid, with zero privacy, but this park is more about doing stuff (fishing, swimming, biking, hiking, golfing, etc) than hanging out in your camp, so it does matter much. Mid-September camping meant no kids or parents until Friday night, and the campground was pretty empty. There is ready evidence (a half dozen or so private campgrounds in the nearby Coulee City area) that the area is PACKED come summer, so be prepared. Biking out to the lakes was a bit of a haul..the road to Deep Lake is paved all the way, so no biggie, but the other lake is accessed via pretty rough road, so again, be prepared. It's a fabulous place, and I cannot begin to recommend it enough. Go! You...
Read moreEarlier this year I was scouting out a place for my family to go camping. I found Sun Lakes. I got my family together on the Idea to book for the 4th of July! We snagged up some excellent full hookup spots with plenty of space, lots of shade. Close proximity to restrooms if for some reason our rv restroom was occupied, close to walking trails a short walk or drive down to the lake for those with a disability that cant walk. The beach had plenty picnic tables and places around to pop a squat, the swimming area was roped off so that was nice, you even have access to some of the fancy amenities over at the resort about a half mile up the lake. During our stay there was a brief power outage ( something i found out that happens from time to time) luckily you got the lake to cool you down and plenty of trees so provide shade, there is also lots of grassy areas, i only found one dog poop bag station but that’s ok because good dog owners always have plenty on hand. Saw some wild life, and we are already discussing our plans to return again and again! Oh did i forget to mention i have camped for almost 38 yrs and this was one of the cleanest and quietest camp grounds. Everyone was friendly and enjoying themselves....
Read moreWe really love this place for swimming. I have 3 kids (4,9,12) and this place is great for them to swim. There is an area with 2 different sets of buoys. The first set only gets to about 4 feet. I at 5'5'' can walk across the whole thing and not have it reach my shoulders. My 12 year old can also. The 9 and 4 year old can not, but they can play in most of it while still touching. The second set, goes much deeper, but it is nice because there is a lot of space were boats can't go, so it is very safe. I would suggest wearing Aqua socks or shoes for your feet, the bed is rocky. There are tables available but they are limited for the amount of people there. The water is not normally very cold, my 4 year old get right in without saying it is cold. There is some wind that might drop the temperature. It a busy place and you need a discover pass to get into some places. The camping looks okay. The spaces are very close together. not a lot of privacy, but there are bathroom facilities. Great place for some family fun...
