I had to give Ohkay casino resort hotel one star, it would of been zero stars if I could. This hotel is very thirsty, and they will charge your card for anything that they can get away with. Check-out here is at 10:30 am so they can charge your card for that late fee. I myself know check-out to be at 11:00 am, every hotel in N.M that I’ve ever been to is always 11:00 am, or even 12:00 pm the latest. But never 10:30 am. I left the room at 10:40 am, and was charged for it. That was super desperate, and thirsty if you ask me. They must be hurting for money, and have it like that so they can get more money from you.
Just imagine me charging the maintenance guy, or crew for stepping on, and breaking my $100 Quay sunglasses that were sitting on the desk, that he stood on while he was trying to reach the ceiling to fix the air conditioning. LoL Just like them charging my card for 10 minutes, at a 10:30 am check-out that makes no sense. We can all be petty, and thirsty.
But yeah, the rooms were so hot with no air conditioning. We even switched rooms, but still it really wasn’t any better. It literally was cooler outside at 75°, and the room was at 84°. Also there were tiny brown bugs in the curtains. Thank god I didn’t see any of them in the bed, or I would of slept in the car. I did however sleep on top of the blankets, in a very uncomfortable position. It wasn’t a pleasant experience whatsoever. The Wi-Fi, and doors to the rooms are trash, the pool is so dirty. I had to tell my kids they couldn’t go swimming cuz I was afraid of infection. The jacuzzi was also dirty, but it had cones, and chains around it, so I’m assuming that must of ment it was out of order. The women employee’s are so rude. Elaina especially, and she’s a supervisor at that. What a shameful example she sets for her staff.
It’s just really sad cuz Española N.M already doesn’t have a lot of hotels, and I think Ohkay Casino and Hotel knows that, so they do whatever they want, treat people however they want, and get away with it most the time. But karma always comes back around, so they should do better, and get a better supervisor for sure, cuz miss Elaina is not it.
Bottom line I do not recommend staying at this hotel. Almost $200 for this awful one night stay. You actually pay more and get less...
Read moreI first off want to say the rooms were decent, I wasn’t a fan of the metal under the beds as it was super annoying anytime I got close to the bed it would ping. Now let’s get to my first experience.
I was exhausted from traveling all day, the hotel is going over a new key system but there was only two people in front of me and it took a total of 37 minutes so me to get checked in and get my room key. Again I was so tired that I just wanted to go to my room and knock out. No, the keys didn’t work so after getting to my room I had to walk all the way down again with my luggage. Things happen but I was asked what happened and I said the key didn’t work and they still had me wait in line again for 15 minutes so they can finish checking in the others, I thought for the inconvenience they could just get me one quickly, I mean during my check in they paused to check out of the employees for the snacks they were purchasing but no I had to wait. So I get a new key, that key doesn’t work either! So here I am an hour and no luck. Thankfully the gentleman updating the system seen my frustration and helped me into my room, then was nice enough to get it fixed and dropped me back a key that worked. With new systems things can happen but please fix it right away don’t make someone stand in line all over again or I would have been happy with a nice meal credit or something. I wasn’t the only one annoyed there was a couple with the same issue and also an older lady.
Now back to the room, the room was actually decent, nice size shower. The walls are super thin. I heard the lady next to me making phone calls since 7am and could hear word for word everything loudly and then after her tv word for word as well. So I couldn’t even sleep in.
The staff there was nice, my room was clean, the bar area and staff was super nice as well. It’s a good location and some restaurants nearby if you don’t want to eat there.
I will portably try it again but hopefully the kinks...

Part of the problems are due to local/cultural differences.|There is no good food at this place and the awful restaurant options close early. If you want to eat anything after 9pm you are SOL. The restaurants they have are not appealing to sit in. They feel like a 7Eleven. The environment is not pleasing in any way. Plastic utensils only. Can't have the crackheads getting a hold of metal forks and knives.|Hotel entrance from the parking lot is not at all secure. The door does not have a bolt so anyone can walk in. With all of the riff raff around this was disconcerting. The windows were open in the hallways so they were full of bugs and very hot. The fire escape stairways were dirty and smelled like smoke. The parking lot was full of trash. |The coffee shop closes at 1 pm which is not ideal for us. |There is only 1 beverage station in the casino and it was messy. There is only dry creamer for coffee which should be illegal since it is so unhealthy. Other casinos at least have real cream in the small cups. No napkins to clean up everyone else's mess. |There is a bar/night club. They have a dress code. Birkenstocks are not allowed. Tank tops are not allowed. Face tattoos, chains, oily clothes, shoes with holes in them and torn jeans are allowed.|The good news is that our hotel room seemed clean. |Since I am not a local my views are based on worldly experiences. I am not a snob but expect a place like this to have good business practices. It may be fine for the locals because they don't any better. I will never go back there. This casino/hotel and the whole town and area are unappealing. Stay closer to Santa Fe or Taos for a slightly...
