I booked Marble Mansion for a recent stay in Vermont, after reading the testimonials on their website. Big Mistake! We arrived after 3 pm per their very explicit instructions, thought it a little strange only one car in the parking lot and a pickup truck out back, both presumably the owners. Walking u to the building, we noticed a lot of dis-repair. Maybe the inside will be better. NOT. We were shown to our room, the owner's favorite, William Shakespeare, describe as their most popular. The room is quite small, the floors appear clean, but that is where the "clean" ends. Walls, windows were filthy. In the bathroom there is not a shelf or flat surface for toiletries. There is not much light in the bedroom or the bathroom. Before going to visit our daughter nearby, we thought we would clean up a little after our drive. That is when we learned there was no water. We went out to dinner , returning around 10 pm. We had a emergency call during dinner and had to leave, however our luggage was in our room so we had to return there first. Still NO other cars in lot. Guests are to sign in their preferred breakfast time, there were no other entries after ours. So, we assume, no other guests. We go up to our room, turn on the water, it came out brown. We went down to advise the innkeepers of our necessary early departure, but could not find anyone. I left a note with the key and departed. We got home around 3 am, my wife was actually quite happy that she did not have to stay at...
Read moreAmazing! Pictures just don’t do this Marble Mansion justice. Taking in the beauty of this architecture from the outside paled in comparison to my fascination of the interior. Like stepping back in time to an era of opulence and lushness that has lasted more then 150 years. You can just feel the history of this place. | I stayed in 3 different rooms, 2 on the second floor over looking the town park and 1 on the 3rd floor. All were very comfortable and quiet, air conditioning and ceiling fans soothed me my whole stay. | I really can’t say enough about the family that owns and runs this place and the staff. From the moment I stepped through those tall entry doors I was pleasantly greeted, given a little tour of the parlor and dinning room, some fascinating history stories and settled right in. I kept gleaning as many history stories from Sharon as I could. She was so knowledgeable not only about their mansion but about that whole historic area. | I’m not normally a breakfast guy but I was that week I was staying there. Fine dining from where I come with fresh baked scones and pastries to egg soufflés, a variety of fruits and berries, juices, and cereals, plenty of hot coffee, and my absolute favorite was the maple bacon. | Sitting on the large covered front porch looking out onto the town square park, whether it was for morning coffee watching the sun rise or in the evening having a cool refreshment, was just so relaxing...
Read moreWhat a fortuitous stay! The Marble Inn had been recommended by so many guests that my husband and I thought that we had to give it a try while our daughter studied at a chamber music institute at the nearby university. As described previously was extremely well appointed and the attention to detail in this restoration was quite remarkable. The rooms were extremely clean and the beds and bedding were top notch. There were period details as well as modern amenities such as flat screen t.v. Additionally, wifi was easily accessed. What made the visit so special was the innkeepers and their assistants. The Parkers shared knowledge of the mansion, their future intentions for updates as well as their cordial hospitality. The setting for breakfast was filled with beautiful silver serving sets, fine china, and ample seatings, both private and interactive, depending on your wishes. The breakfast, itself, could take up a whole paragraph. In addition to fruit, there were homemade items from Sharon's kitchen that were delicious. The first day my husband and I chose a romantic get away on the first floor complete with a period bed and 12 foot ceilings, and the second day,our returning teen joined us in the art deco Hemingway room. The inn is a short drive from Lake Bomoseen and the area beaches as well as fine dining at the Fair Haven Inn. We can't wait to return to this special inn this summer and for...
