We stayed at the Dune in July so the height of the beach season. The beds were comfortable, and the room was easy to enjoy. Beach access with chairs, wagons and umbrellas was great! We utilized the bikes but unfortunately the bikes were rusted and tires were nearly flat. We wanted to ask the office for assistance but the door was always closed during the weekdays we were there. We also had to guess at the bike combo code and we didnāt see it provided. We stayed from a Wednesday - Monday (5 nights). We had two evenings we could barely park our car in the lot. We asked the girl working the desk on Saturday (she kept the office door open) what to do in the event there was no parking and she didnāt know what the tell us. Just kept saying she knew two cars were leaving and mentioned she could ask management but never gave us a solution and never offered to contact us with the solution. There was one spot that night we squeezed into. Defined parking lines could help although I do not believe there are enough spots per room. The AC was extremely loud and we had to blast the TV just to hear it. Speakers at the bedside may help. As we were warned, the college bar was loud Friday and Saturday and we were in room 2 - shared wall to the bar and could feel the beat of the music. We didnāt mind the noise but the next morning we could hear the room next to us talking and their alarms going off on their phones. So I can only imagine that they could hear us too. There were two chairs outside our room and when we first arrived we enjoyed them each morning but as the hotel got busier the chairs were taken. We didnāt mind sharing the chairs as we assumed they were for all guests, but we did mind the noise outside our room in the mornings and the awkwardness of walking out of our room into people. I recommend the chairs are moved closer to the office out of the space of a personal room. The soaps were all watered down in the showers, bathroom sink and kitchenette areas. If you like to sleep in complete darkness, donāt stay here. It felt like daylight throughout the night even with the blinds closed. WiFi was super slow and would freeze consistently, my husband had trouble working and the TV would freeze. Overall we were only in our room to sleep as we were visiting family in town. We gave 4 stars as Fairfield has limited hotel options and the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis hotel is quite stylish, with its lovely decor and a fantastic location close to the beach. They throw in some nice perks like bikes, beach chairs, towels, and access to a private beach ā a real win. The virtual check-in/out process is also pretty smooth.
However, there are a couple of things you might want to take into consideration. The blinds in the rooms don't do a great job of blocking out streetlamp light or providing privacy from pedestrians. It would be a good idea to add some curtains to address this issue.
On the topic of room features, the walls are notably thin. I found myself able to discern my neighbors' activities quite clearly, from their TV programs to coughing and conversations. While the hotel does acknowledge potential noise from the bar below, the actual disturbance, especially the bass thumping from 10 pm to 2 am, was beyond what I anticipated. This was particularly inconvenient as I was on a work trip and needed a good night's rest for an early morning.
To enhance the overall guest experience, it would be beneficial for the hotel to provide advance notice about potential noise disturbances. This would allow guests to come prepared with earplugs or consider alternative accommodations, especially those on business trips requiring an early start. Families with young children seeking an earlier bedtime may also find the current situation less than ideal.
Improvements, such as enhanced wall insulation for sound dampening, could go a long way in mitigating these issues and making the hotel more suitable for various types of travelers.
Despite my initial positive impressions and the desire to return, the noise disturbances during my work-related stays make it unlikely for me to revisit. I would hesitate to recommend this hotel, particularly for business travelers with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI picked the Dune as my regular Hotel was booked and I was looking for something different. Overall, I liked the hotel and had an excellent experience. The room was simple but clean and up to date. The beach, as advertised, was about 1 block away and was very serene. Also, good for walking.
The water pressure was outstanding!!! The towels are very thick and soft and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The wide screen TV was really nice, especially with the available apps (Netflix....).
The electronic check-in and key-less entry was very convenient, especially not having to worry about losing a key or key card.
I worked an overnight shifts so I was sleeping during the day. The area and facility were very quiet and I was not disturbed. Turning the blinds blocked the majority of daylight, so as not to disturb my sleep.
The site staff was around during the day, and were very helpful.
There is a small Deli/Coffee shop across the street, with an adjacent store for adult beverages.
Now let's talk about the Bar behind the DUNE. Even though it was late fall, Fairfield is a college town and the bar was active every night. I was in the middle of the second floor with the bedroom wall above the bar roof. The bass sounds traveled thru the walls and I could see how it could be the basis for a complaint. But it honestly was not that bad and did not interfere with my sleep or enjoyment.
I liked it so much, I am heading...
