We stayed at Maple Grove Cabin. The temperature inside was rather chilly, the thermostat was set at 50. It would've been nice if it were warmer. The kitchen was nice, good counter space for food preparation if you're cooking. The area could use a light above the sink or perhaps a dimmer option. In order to get enough light you have to turn on the ceiling lights which are rather bright. The table is a good size and accommodate up to 6 with the extension leaf. The bed was comfortable, no closet or dresser in the main bedroom, so if you're looking to hang up or put your clothes away, you're out of luck. A longer pull string on the ceiling fan would be nice so you don't have to stand on a chair to reach it. The main room has a leather sofa with dual recliners, which is nice. It was cozy, but my personal preference is a separate recliner. The wooden rocker was little to be desired, not very comfortable. The firewood provided was wet as it was raining. A tarp over it would've been nice. Luckily we had good firestarting materials and had no issues, but some people may not be prepared and would likely have problems starting the fire. The gas heat option is great to have, but it is disappointing for those who are looking forward to woodburning. The flue on the fireplace was not open all the way, which we did not catch, unfortunately. We had a nice fire going, but after 20-30 minutes the cabin filled with smoke. The smoke detector/carbon monoxide fetector was next to the fireplace and was a even more a nuisance when this happened. I had to take the alarm down and remove the battery. We had to open the windows and turn on all the ceiling fans to air it out. We told the office the next day and it was fixed immediately. Extra wood for the inconvenience would've been a good gesture. We bought more wood when we were out and about. The bathroom was just OK in this cabin. If you're taller than 5'10 you will not fit under the shower head. Good luck, and if you're a bigger person, LOL, just sayin'. There is no cabinet to put accessories away, just the sink top and windowsill, unless you use underneath the sink. The backyard has a beautiful covered cement slab deck. It also has a firepit and grill but no trees, so really no privacy. Cook Forest Top of the Hills is a great camping spot, but we're probably going to find or return to a cabin that has some forest around it. All in all, Lois & Larry and family, do a great job. Sorry if it seems we're nitpicking, but I try to be honest and transparent. We look forward to returning. This was our 5th visit. We like shopping and eating out, so we visit nearby Brookville, Clarion and even Punxsutawney. There is lots to do in the area. We have yet to visit in the summer, but you can see there are many hiking trails and other festivities. We look forward to the opportunity when we can do this and will definitely stay @ Top of the...
Read moreNote that this review refers specifically to the Sugar Pine Cabin. The cabins are different sizes and have different amenities.||||The cabin was very clean and free of vermin (which is not always an easy task in this kind of rural environment). It's a small cabin, but has a functional kitchen (although the stove has issues), a comfortable bed, and a nicely put together little bathroom. The kitchen is technically eat-in, but it's a little cramped. If the weather allows, it's better to eat at either the table on the porch or the picnic table by the grill.||||The cabin does come with good outdoor space, including that and a standalone swing. The picnic table is out in the open, the swing does have a roof (although it's not up to significant rainfall). The porch is well covered, but not screened. The cabin also comes with a TV and a DVD player.||||There is NO internet in this cabin and you most likely won't get much in the way of usable cell service either. You can use the internet at the main house if you need to. You might consider this a minus...or a plus.||||There is a somewhat creepy "Native American" chainsaw carving on the wall which...yeah. You might find it disturbing. Or wonderful, depending.||||The kitchen has many things, but it does not have any small appliances other than a toaster and a coffee maker. If you want a waffle iron or anything like that, you'll need to bring it yourself. However, there were more than enough plates, cups, glasses, bowls, etc.||||Our trip was in August (woe is the lazy reviewer) so I don't know how well the fireplace works, but there is one. The cabins are available year round.||||Great location to explore Cook Forest State Park and that end...
Read moreBeen meaning to write a review! We been coming here since 2014 and love sunset maple, from the outside it may not look as big as it is but once inside the floor plan opens up into a huge living area with a massive stone fireplace which let's us bring the fire inside to enjoy when we want. The area where the cabins are located is just gorgeous, the cabin and firepit area is super convinient to the house for whatever you need. The cabin is always clean and as I said we have pretty much everything we need here. We love the big picture window that let's in alot of really nice light which makes it really cozy when we have coffee. Plenty of space in the bedrooms is always nice as well. Overall this for us is when fall starts and it's a great way to start the season.
Now the only major thing we have come to realize that's we're missing and that is wifi in the cabin, while being unplugged for the most part is nice, we do find as years go by the little things you don't realize you do need from lack of wifi gets tougher. But we're happy that Lois and Larry are working on a solution.
But that aside we do really love everything about our cabin as it feels like home...
