EDIT: It is now 2025 and we came back for our annual trip. We unfortunately couldn’t find 1 cabin on the bluff that would be available for our entire stay (3 nights) so we stayed at one cabin 2 nights and transitioned to another for our 3rd night. We have done this before with little issue. We notified the front desk we would be doing this. The day before our transition, we were told by the front desk to stop by at 11am to check on the status of our 2nd cabin and that they would prioritize cleaning the cabin we would move in to. We got late check out at 12pm and came by the front desk at 11:50. We were told our next cabin isn’t ready but should be soon and that they were prioritizing it. 12:30 came around we were told housekeeping is on lunch. 2:30pm came around still no news or reason. 3:30pm came around and we had been waiting around due to being told the incorrect information that this would be a short wait vs an all day wait. They had no answers. We weren’t able to check in to our next cabin until 4pm (which would have been fine if they had told us that from the start instead of telling us sooner check in could happen. We had two dogs with us so we had to prioritize what would work best for them. We were given a dinner voucher. THEN on SATURDAY NIGHT when we came for dinner, we get told there is no bartender therefore they could not seat us at the bar. The bar they have many seats at, a full cocktail menu with specials, etc. We waited 20 minutes before anyone took our drink order at a table. April 2025 was no better than our last trip. Extremely disappointing
2024 We have been coming to Kalaloch and staying at the lodge yearly (sometimes 2 times a year) since 2017 to enjoy the beach with our dogs. We always stay in a cabin on the bluff and typically have a great stay (keeping in mind this is a remote area of the coast). The views are always amazing.
This most recent time we had unfortunate experiences with the restaurant staff that left us puzzled. In general- they were unfriendly, had no bartender (multiple nights) despite ample bar seating (and a cocktail menu), wouldn’t allow dogs on their outdoor patio for lunch (despite the front desk saying they do), several items off the already small menu were unavailable (from apps to sides to drinks). People would come in, want to grab a drink at the bar, and were turned away or told to get a table (because no bartender?) when the restaurant wasn’t busy. I think the descriptions of the restaurant on the website set a higher expectation of what it is nowadays. We hope it returns to more consistent cuisine offerings and better service. We used to very much...
Read moreHonestly, this is an amazing place to stay while visiting the area. So close to all the top places recommended to visit in the area and right on the ocean. You can't really beat it for location and the staff we interacted with were all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast at the lodge was very good and they have gluten-free options which I need. We stayed March 4 - 8 which is the off season and it was great even if a bit on the cold side, though we enjoyed pretty nice weather overall.
We stayed in one of the cabins and it was clean, well-maintained, and very nice. The only issue we had at all was with the hot water which was very frustrating. There wasn't enough for two people to take showers close together so we had to decide who got one at night and who had to wait until morning which meant sleeping with the day's adventures on you. Even then there wasn't enough for me to shampoo, use conditioner, get it all rinsed out (I have very long hair) as well as scrub the day's dirt and sweat off before I was stuck in a freezing cold shower. It was quite miserable after being out all day and looking forward to a nice hot shower after coming in from the cold. In the bathroom, the water never really got hot, hot and the knob in the shower was backward directionally, hot first and keep turning for cold. If this was to save on hot water use, for the price per night it's a major fail. Guests should be able to enjoy a hot shower after being out hiking or tide-pooling in the rain and cold. For the price, you shouldn't have to wait hours between showers. Conversely, the water in the kitchenette was hot enough to burn your hands which we found extremely odd since it never got that hot in the shower. That is the only problem or complaint we had while here. I would definitely recommend staying here just be prepared for a cold shower. I gave it 5 stars because even with the hot water issue we had a really good time and still plan on staying again...
Read moreGood location, right on the beach. That being said, there are 3 rows of cabins, so if you're further back from the beach (like we were), you don't really know the ocean is there, except I guess for the sound of distant waves. The restaurant is closed due to covid, so keep in mind, there is no food for miles- not even a Starbucks. Some cabins have kitchens so you could rent those. Others have a microwave and fridge, so bring your food from Forks (nearest town with food). The beach is pretty expansive, full of driftwood and the Tree of Life is worth a visit. The rooms are clean, albeit a bit musty and definitely old (think popcorn ceilings). I did take my own spray bottle of alcohol to spray on shared surfaces- light switches, door handles, sofa cushions. The bed is soft, maybe a little too soft because my husband and I kept sinking towards the center. We were so tired after our drive however that we slept well. There are thoughtful additions to the room- plenty of really nice smelling shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion in the bathroom, the microwave and mini fridge like I mentioned earlier, a coffee maker with coffee and creamer, firewood along with kindling and fire starter- I think that was the best part. The cabins feel cozy, especially with a fire going, and they force you to disconnect since there's no television or wifi. The staff at the front desk is courteous and friendly, but there are no phones in the rooms to reach them, so if you need anything, you have to walk all the way back. Think of Kalaloch Lodge like a large camp ground with parking spots and picnic tables near each camp spot, except instead of tents, you get 4 walls and a roof. Overall, it was fine. I did feel the per nightly price was a bit on the exorbitant side for what we got. I did advance booking, received a room in a shared building of rooms 3 rows back from the ocean and it...
