I was staying at this hotel, the Quality Inn and suites in Fort Madison Iowa for the the weekend for my family reunion, which I I've stayed there many times for my reunion. I checked in Saturday afternoon everything was fine. There happen to be a birthday party just getting over when I checked in and a wedding reception. When my family and I went to the pool on Saturday the pool door was propped open, the entire night with no problems. We had no issues from the front desk clerk Vicky that night. So Sunday was my reunion. My family and I left fairly early in the morning. While we were leaving we happened to notice one of the screens from the window in the pool area had been knocked out.
Hours later we returned with my family and some of my nieces and nephews to go swimming, including my sister. We of course propped the door open because nothing was said last night because the front desk worker Vicky was ok with it. Well today I guess it wasn't ok, because she came flying into the pool area and extremely rudely tore me a new one about it. Than within 10 minutes, what I would only be able to assume was her boyfriend and not even an employee, rudely came in and started chewing us out. Than Vicky precede to come in and kick us out of the pool, sighting maintenance, when asked how long she said oh just for a bit, I asked again and her boyfriend, almost shouting at us said you f**king heard her get out now! Again I asked how long is it shut down for, she told me a couple of hours call down and I'll let you know when the maintenance is done. Now, I have been a general manager of a hotel before and know that maintenance, unless absolutely necessary does not work on weekends, let alone would a general manager allow an employees boyfriend to come in and talk to guest in such an atrocious manager.
But regardless we left the pool, and were deciding on what to do now since that plan got ruined, and i had forgotten something in the pool area so i went back to grab it and there the pool is filled with other people. How could she let them in when there is suppose to be maintenance being performed on the pool. Which my husband did get up set about it, but her boyfriend was also talking crap to my husband. I've never seen a hotel with a bouncer who actually is not employed with the hotel.
I was also made aware the she had been recording us on her personal cell phone, I do believe I saw cameras in the hotel and I am very much not ok with her using her personal cell phone to do that.
I than went out to grab something from my car and when I entered the hotel to go to my room Vicky's boyfriend was with her behind the front desk saying you need to call the fking cops and get them aholes out of here. Which they were called and we were escorted out of the hotel.
Ive stay at this hotel every year and have never had one single problem with anything, my family even held my father's memorial there in February after he passed away, but this womens boyfriend obviously had a problem with us and did not want us there.
Let alone the room was not as clean as it should have been, there was toothpaste on the mirror along with all the streaks there was an unknown substance on the bathroom wall and it didn't seem like the sheets on the hide a way bed had been changed since the last time it was used. I'm also pretty sure I saw some mold in the bathroom.
I am not happy with the way me and my family was treated due to an employees boyfriends. And recieving a one night comp doesn't really cut it.
If I was her general manager she would no longer be with the company and the housekeepers would all be retrained on the correct way to...
Read moreSo we just spent the weekend here. What an ordeal. We booked / paid for 2 adjoining rooms for 2 nights on March 18th. When we arrived on April 1st they charged my debit card for the full amount of one room. My bank app sent me a notification so I engaged the clerk right then about it. Ends up a manager got involved the next (Saturday) morning. After explaining they had $239 of my money in my account locked up /held so I couldn't use it and I didn't know if I was going to need it or not it they FINALLY came up with the idea of giving me a cash advance (to be charged only after the error was corrected) while they worked on reversing the improper debit charge. They wanted me to be the one to invest the time on the phone with my bank to fix the issue but I refused. They finally left me a voicemail during a memorial service I had come to town for to start with and told me my bank needed me to call and confirm the issue. I called the bank and after I sent a few other emails the bank said they would issue a credit.
So I thought everything was resolved. My bank app showed the improper charge was in fact reversed. I checked out of my rooms and expected to see the $200 charge for a cash advance from the hotel (kinda like a no charge atm transaction) appear on my account after we drove away. What did I find? The hotel had processed the $200.00 cash advance TWICE! So now, they have another $200 of my money tied up again. I emailed the manager yet again and he says they are working on reversing that improper charge too. How can one establishment be so inept to do this? I expect to be filing a complaint with the BBB tomorrow.
As it was, I probably invested over 2 hours of my time dealing with their mistake with all the standing at the front desk and emails and phone calls to get it straightened out and.
I am amazed they didn't even think to offer some comp in return for the way we were treated. I am not one to say 'you owe me' but a simple "sir, may we comp one of your rooms for a night?" would have gone a long way to say I'm sorry. Wow, what a concept! That would have been the value of the extra charge and that probably would have made me much more amenable to waiting for the credit to have been processed normally and would have likely encouraged me to skip the problem of needing a cash advance as a precaution. If they had offered to comp one night AND refund the inappropriate charge I would have dropped it right there and this review would have a much greater value to their business.
As it was the end result is they inappropriately charged my card TWO times and the only thing they offered was an apology. Folks, we normally stay at Hampton Inns and this is a great example of why. It would have been much better to drive from the Hampton Inn at Keokuk to the service in New London than to stay at this place and shave a few miles but have this kind of headache!
Our family is all in agreement that this was the first and the LAST time we will stay at a Comfort Inn. Not just the one in Fort Madison, but the entire chain.
Now if I could just figure out how to...

We traveled here to stay for a family members wedding. When we arrived 10/3 we were greeted by a rude staff member with 0 customer service. Once we got checked in we did a quick room check, and found some dirty cob webs in the corner of the room. I had noticed a spot by the ceiling but didn't think much of it because we pretty much left right away to go to spend time with family. Saturday was the day of the wedding so we weren't there much either.
Before I check out of any hotel my mom taught me to help house keeping by doing simple things like gathering trash, stripping beds, and piling up all towels. I've never been so thankful for her instilling this in me.
Sunday when we were getting ready to leave I stripped the bed. Imagine my surprise when I found what looks to be a blood stain on the pillow. Then found what looks like a piss stain on the mattress pad where my fiancé slept both nights.
On our way out I noticed that the wall where I previously noticed a spot at was bubbled. I then investigated it a little further and realized the spot wasn't just any spot, it is black mold growing.
To put some icing on the cake, there was a coffee cup sitting in the hallway window when we got there Friday, and Sunday it was still there filled with coffee and mold.
I reported this when we checked out, and was only offered a "sorry". I also reached out via email and was told someone would be in contact. It is now 10/30 and I have have heard crickets.
I have never been more disgusted in a hotel ever. I will never be back and will tell anyone I know not to stay here. Hopefully someone makes it this far in the review and also chooses to...
