We stayed at the Whale's Tale property for a quick weekend getaway after losing our family pet. It was the perfect place to runaway to. The view is unbelievable. Every picture I took looks like a painting. There's hardly any reception once you leave 101 and head to the coast, which I loved. The house's Wifi was sufficient for steaming music while we soaked in the hot tub on the deck. It was nice to cozy up next to the fire after a long soak. Listening to the waves crash the entire time was soothing for the soul!
The house itself was clean and had an abundance of large towels. After a quick glance around the kitchen, it seemed that there was sufficient items to prepare your own food should you not want to take the quick drive/walk down into the village where there are a few restaurants/bars (food is quite pricey down there). We did not use the TV as we had an amazing view of the ocean to focus on.
It was easy to book, easy to access the house, and there is plenty of information/directions given at booking to make your stay go smooth. Communication was easy with Simy and Humble.
We plan to return to the Whale's Tale in the future for a longer getaway.
Advice for future guests: If you're staying longer, I would stop in Garberville or Shelter Cove General Store for items to cook as the village is limited. Plus the house has an amazing kitchen window to stare out of. I would also top off your gas tank before heading out to the coast. We visited in the colder, wetter months, but I think riding bikes down to the village would be awesome.
We look forward to visiting...
Read moreWe found this gem while looking for a resting place that would put us reasonably close to The Avenue of the Giants, and we could not have been happier!
The unit was spacious, the sound of the waves was calming, and the hot tub was delightful! The bed was very comfortable, the sheets were soft, and there were plenty of blankets, along with a more than adequate floor heater to take off the chill. Even in mid June, the evening temps were quite chilly!
Our unit did not have a full kitchen, but we knew that in advance, and took microwave-friendly food with us. Between the microwave, toaster, and electric kettle, we were fine. Neither of us are coffee drinkers, but there was also a coffee maker, with coffee supplies available for us, if we so desired.
The view was spectacular. My partner is a professional photographer, and he set up his camera on the deck, and recorded a several hour time-lapse of the sunset. Just mind blowing colors! I took a few shots myself with my iPhone camera, and I will attach those. No judging, he’s the photographer, not I, lol!
But the location was lovely, the sunsets magnificent, the hot tub inviting, and it was just a tad over an hour’s drive to be in the midst of some of the most towering trees on the planet!
Truly, a dream come true, and we will definitely...
Read moreWe recently stayed at Cliff House’s Magnificent Room, and it was nothing short of perfect for a weekend respite! The amenities were thoughtfully curated, making our stay cozy and rejuvenating. The ability to walk to the nearby Black Sand Beach was a delightful surprise, and the outstanding views from the room added a touch of magic to every moment.
The fireplace was the perfect cozy retreat after exploring, but the hot tub truly stole the show. Watching the sunset and later stargazing from the warmth of the tub after exploring hikes along the Lost Coast was an unforgettable experience—pure bliss!
The weather was incredible, even though we had been concerned about winter storms. It turned out to be a beautiful weekend, and the hosts added to the charm of our stay with their wonderful local recommendations. Despite venturing out to enjoy the area, we loved the convenience of the well-stocked kitchen, which allowed us to prepare a home-cooked Thanksgiving meal.
The hospitality was warm and inviting, and it’s clear that the hosts put a lot of care into ensuring guests have a memorable stay. We will absolutely be coming back again! Highly recommend this gem to anyone seeking a peaceful and...
