Title: Disappointing Stay at Colorado Springs Fountain KOA – Will Not Return Our recent stay at the Colorado Springs Fountain KOA was incredibly disappointing. When we arrived, there was no fire pit at our site. Two days in, they finally dropped one off, but placed it on wood chips, causing the entire ground to catch fire. We had to rush with buckets of water to put it out, preventing the whole site from burning down. After that, we couldn’t have a fire anymore. Then, the leg of the bench at our site broke, causing my husband to fall and injure himself. We couldn't reach anyone by phone, and when we finally tracked down a staff member, he didn't say a word—just bent the leg back into place and handed it back to us. When my husband said we didn’t want the bench because it was unsafe, the employee angrily took it away. We left a voicemail for management, we still haven’t heard from anyone, its been over a week. On top of that, the overall atmosphere was unpleasant. I asked the hosts about event times and was told to check the app, which was supposedly provided at check-in. However, later I found out the app hadn’t been working all weekend. The friendliness we've come to expect at KOA was sorely lacking here, with most of the staff appearing grumpy and unhelpful. The only bright spot was a young woman with butterfly wings during the wagon ride, who was the happiest employee we encountered. The pool was freezing cold, and another guest mentioned that it used to be heated and in better condition. The splash pad needs improvement, quite a few fun things didnt work, the advertised gem mining area looked abandoned, and overall, many of the amenities seemed neglected. While the jump pad and glow wagon ride were enjoyable, the constant scolding of kids for riding bikes nearby dampened the fun. We were told Ebikes of any kind, escooters, gas golf carts, gas bikes, were not allowed in the park, unless the golf cart was rented from them directly. Sadly, this was the worst KOA experience we've had, and we will not be returning. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously because it seems like this location has gone downhill. Several other campers had mentioned that this place used to be a good spot. The nice part is that it was close to go to the state fair and pueblo zoo.

We made reservations for this place more than six months in advance, thinking it would be a restful retreat as we wrapped up a three week road trip. All my husband wanted for Father's Day was to watch the kids as they played in the water park. Our hopes were dashed as we pulled in to the park and saw the reality of the campground. We splurged on a site with a concrete patio, table, chairs, bbq and fire pit. We were disappointed as we pulled up to our site and saw that our table had only three chairs, our fire pit was rusted and full of holes, and the grill was a small park style cast iron charcoal grate with a white Bic cigarette lighter in it. We have stayed at a lot of KOAs, and this place had the worst amenities. Everything was poor quality and in bad repair. My kids loved the water slides, but unfortunately, they were shut down for three hours during the hottest part of the day because a kid threw up in the water. While we waited, we used the fiberglass swimming pool along with many other guests. We were concerned about the cloudiness of the water, but needed relief from the heat, since there is no shade. My husband stepped in something squishy at the bottom of the pool, but could not see what it was since we couldn't see anything at all past our knees. We exited the pool when a giant booger floated past us. My husband looked at his feet and saw they were covered in sticky blue goo. Shortly after that, they shut down the pool because the paint was peeling so bad that it posed a hazard to guests swimming there. An activity that a number of guests enjoyed was the hay ride, which loaded at least twenty guests in a trailer pulled by a Silverado. At 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, they cruised up and down all of the lanes of the campground with flashing lights, music, and happy screaming campers that were followed by golf carts and kids on bikes until 9 p.m. We thought this was an interesting practice, as it made a lot of constant noise for the whole campground in the evening when families are trying to wind down. This is a common stopping point for travelers on the way to and from Mt. Rushmore, which is a grueling drive, and a little more consideration for people needing rest would be appreciated.

Pros- some great amenities for a campground, such as pool, splash pad, and sand playground. Front desk people were friendly, and rooms were decent ly cleaned and offered good value. Cons- pretty dirty ( we have a crawling baby- so dirt/dead insects, etc under beds and in window sills is relevant to us. The two bunk beds are a sort of plastic pad, you have to make beds yourself. Most importantly though, very crowded campground with uneven spacing. So some cabins have 2- parking spots, some barely have one. (Don’t book cabin 31.) On top of this we had a a very frustrating and confusing situation where there seemed to be 2 car spaces in one side (see pic with truck, that was on our right side). and none on the other- front desk said they would ask other cabin to move their vehicle. (Odessy was very helpful.) I even brought in photos of the parking situation to be sure that I was interpreting correctly that our neighbor was parking in our spot. She repeatedly reassured me that they were working on it and would send maintenance to resolve it. After 4-5 stressful hours, When I got back from store, neighbor had sort of moved vehicle over, but not enough for me to park, I called in again. This time maintenance came and moved our grill on the left side and told us to park there, and that for no apparent reason (cabins same price) our neighbors had 3 parking spots and we had one. I’m not sure who manages this policy, but it was stressful and upsetting to be told the opposite from front desk all afternoon, and then when push comes to shove, she changed tunes and we were told a different arrangement, in the end creating negative feelings between both I and our neighbor. So horribly managed. I called manager and left a message and never got a call back. My greatest frustration besides mixed messages was that maintenance was rather rude, including raising their voice, and then there was no apology or even apologetic tone for the completely unnecessary drama. In pics- the one with fireplace, in the end, maintenance told us was our parking space? And you second two photos you see the truck next to our cabin, not theirs, where there are two spaces.

Based on my Browsing through other reviews of this site, I'm sure the owner or manager will take no accountability for this, but I'm going to post it anyway. The gals at the front desk are very nice, very accommodating, friendly and full of smiles. I would also like to give a shout out to the gentleman that works at the cabana store, he was very, very nice.

On the downside, there are a lot of what appear to be very long-term residents here. Rundown campers with overgrown sites. Things not kept very clean. People working on their cars into all hours of the night. It's just a little bit strange and not what you expected a KOA holiday.

Last, I've stayed at many KOA campgrounds across the country. I don't think I've ever had an experience with an employee that was as horrible as the experience I had here. A misunderstanding during check-in, led to one of the escort employees to lashing out at me in an inexcusable way. I checked in without incident, and as I said, the ladies at the front desk were very friendly. I purchased firewood, and there was an employee there to help me with that right away, he told me he would deliver it to my site. As I walked to my vehicle, another gentleman in a golf cart pointed at my truck and asked if it was mine, which I said that it was. The chaos of check-in was in full swing as I rounded up my kids, and he didn't say anything more and so I got into the truck and began to creep forward trying to see the signs that would lead me to my site. A few moments later, he approached me and asked if I just checked in which I said that I did. He very rudely stated that that is what he was trying to ask me before, and said "I wasn't just trying to make conversation" ..... His attitude caught me a little bit off guard, but I shrugged it off and assumed maybe he was just frustrated with my lack of understanding in their process. I followed him to my site and before I knew it, he was out of his golf cart and back at my car window, again expressing his anger with me about "moving" without an escort. I told him nobody told me I needed an escort, and it was just a misunderstanding. He continued with his extremely condescending, aggressive and rude attitude, lecturing me about campground procedures. I told him that he was blowing it out of proportion and to please stop giving me a shit about it. I asked him to please get away from my car and when he continued to berate me, I asked him if his ultimate goal was to ruin my day, or what he was trying to accomplish. At this point, he finally returned to his golf cart.

It's also important to know that I was traveling as a single woman with my children and grandson. I have this grown man in my face at my car window yelling at me for something that was really, not a big deal. He made me feel extremely unsafe, uncomfortable and it was clear his intent was to intimidate me. Once he walked away from my car, he continued to rant and rave on his radio as he drove away from my campsite. My daughter and I felt so uncomfortable with his aggression that we almost turned around and left. We were there for my grandson's birthday, however, and didn't want to upset him.

I'm still shocked at the way that he handled things. A simple "for future reference" was all that was necessary. I'm sure he would've approached the situation very differently if I had been a man, and likely would not have said anything at all. But he clearly had every intention of intimidating me as a single woman.

We then had to deal with him driving by our campsite, many times over the following days. He never apologized or acknowledge that he may have blown the situation out of proportion. He continued to be unfriendly and make things uncomfortable.

It's unfortunate that this one person really tarnished my view of this entire campsite. I live locally and was excited about our visit here because we camp a lot, and sometimes like to stay close to home, and I thought the kids might really like this location. However due to his nasty attitude and intimidating behavior we won't...
