In mid-May 2023, my wife and I spent two wonderful nights at one of the two glamping tents at Jacob and Jessica’s place in Gateway CO. This was a restful break away from our camping circuit as we traveled from east Tennessee to Cortez and Gateway CO for mountain biking and hiking. The Gateway area is rich in red rock magnificence leading to the beautiful Dolores River canyon to the southeast, and our tent was located with a stunning view of majestic Palisade peak each morning as we awoke. Sleeping accommodations were heavenly with king bed, mattress, and comforter that made you just want to linger (Jess can give you the details). My wife’s Fitbit said she got more REM sleep those two nights than ever before in her life. I know I slept in 4-5 hour chunks in lieu of my normal 2. Jake and Jess are wonderful hosts, eager to attend to every need of guests. The living quarters and shared restroom/shower area were spotless clean and kept that way with constant attention. Strong coffee and wonderful conversation light up each morning, and it was fun to talk with them about exciting new plans for their enterprise, now in its second season. Their glamping business is completely off-the-grid, with all the nuance and creativity necessary for that. Jake is the inspired handyman/craftsman for their place and was willing to answer my many questions about techniques and equipment as well as the passion he has put into it. Lots of hiking and biking opportunities are 5 minutes away. I spent 4 hours biking the local mountain bike trail system (Gateway Trails Tour) and found it to be an absolutely gorgeous winding narrow singletrack with towering red rock landscape and most cactus and flowers in full bloom or nearly there. We highly recommend a stay at Gateway Glamping, whether you are a hotel/suitcase/driving tour/sightseer or you are a hard core hiker/biker/primitive camper seeking a luxurious place to chill...
Read moreI cannot say enough good about the enjoyable experience we recently had at Gateway Glamping. My wife surprised me with a weekend getaway and it was perfect. As a frequent camper, Gateway Glamping exceeded my expectations not only in amenities but in absolute kindness from other guests and the owners. The tents are spacious, very clean, and private. The KING sized bed is very comfortable, the outdoor kitchen provides everything needed to cook any meal, and the personal firepit is perfect for enjoying the night sky. Would recommend bringing your cooler packed with food and drinks and ice, but there is a General Store with all basic amenities (burritos, microwave, ice, beer, local canned foods, etc). There is also a local resort with breakfast, lunch, and dinner options if you don’t care to cook at all. The pet friendly grounds were perfect for our doggos to enjoy (but watch for cacti!) and the wildlife roaming through the property was quite enjoyable to see. The pool was perfect on hot days to relax and cool off or for lounging and enjoying a good book. Jake and Jessica are more than accommodating and exceptionally friendly, with their knowledge of the area ranging from hikes both easy and difficult, mountain biking, and scenic drives to take. We couldn’t recommend this place enough! Bring a battery pack to charge your phones/cameras, hiking boots, and you won’t be disappointed! We will be booking a trip for next...
Read moreIf we could give more than 5 stars, we would! We are so grateful to have spent a weekend with our two dogs in this true slice of heaven. The hosts are incredible humans, and their passion for what they do is evident in every detail. They immediately made us and the dogs feel right at home, were so generous to offer us anything we needed, educated us on the local spots, and were lovely to chat with, all while still allowing their guests plenty of peace and privacy to unwind. The tent, bedding, bathrooms, etc were SO luxurious (nicer than some hotels we’ve stayed in), and everything was super well stocked and maintained daily. We really enjoyed the views and space of the Escalante site. The grounds are in a GREAT location just a hop and a skip away from the river and beautiful public land to explore! Gateway holds all the best qualities of a small town but still manages to blow your mind with its magic. Highly recommend this spot and the people who run it! Thanks Jessica and...
