We stayed here for 2 nights and had a great time! We were attending a show at Dillon Amphitheater and didn't want to pay $250 a night for a hotel, so we camped instead. I'm glad we brought our bikes because the bathrooms were a little far from our site so it was nice to just hop on the bike to get to the bathroom. There is also a nice, safe bike trail that goes straight to the Amphitheater which was very convenient so we didn't have to park and worry about driving, it's a little over 3 miles to the Amphitheater from the campground over Dillon Dam. The bathrooms are really clean and the camp hosts are really nice. The site itself was large with a big table and bear locker. The downside is you can hear the traffic from I-70 and it's a little far from the water if you want to paddle. There is a day use area just a short drive away and Frisco Marina is beautiful and would be a fun place to hang out for the day. Also keep in mind if you are bringing a boat they will not let you over the dam towning a boat so you have to take the Frisco exit if coming from Denver. Other that that it is a great campground and I will definitely be back for more shows...

Camped here with our pop up the weekend after Labor Day. This was our first time at Heaton Bay . Enjoyed having a paved pad that helped decrease the dirt and dust, a bear locker and table and fire pit that were all in very good condition. It is nicely packed with trees to provide privacy between sites but trees aren't large enough to provide a ton of shade. Not a problem as the temps were perfect and in the 70's during the day. The location is great. Central in Summit County, close to Frisco, Dillon and Breckenridge and obviously Lake Dillon. The bathrooms om our loop were incredibly cleaned and did not smell at all. One drawback that no one mentions in reviews is that loop C, specifically sites 31-37 back up against the road that goes into the campground. Dillion Damn Road backs up against this road and then I70 is just a stones throw away. You hear a lot of road traffic from most of this campground but even more so from these sites. We had to put on a sound machine to drown out the highway noise at night. You can also see the entrance road through the trees from sites 31, 32 (our site) and 33 which are noted...

Stayed for 3 nights. I chose one of the absolute best sites which was further away from other sites and really close to the lake. On the recreation website, it says theres bear boxes at this campground but then there wasn't when we arrived so it was a little inconvenient to have to carry all the food back and forth to the car. This campground has really nice scenery and I like the fact its right next to a big lake but I didn't realize just how close it actually was to town. There was a lot of planes that flew above this campground so that was odd to me but I guess it's the fact we are right next to town. Also with hiking trails that are at least 10 minutes or so away from the campground, they were still in town and there were cars, noises, and constriction next to every trail we tried to hike so that felt off... This campground wasn't a horrible stay but I'm not sure if I would stay again because of these things. If you're wanting a quiet stay, I wouldn't really recommend...

I would normally give this campground five stars. It’s amazing and on lake Dillon. We’ve been coming here for many years but recently new management has taken over and they shut off all access to any RV or trailer from filling up water at the water station. Even though on their website it says RV’s can fill up with water, the new management says they don’t want to cover the bill for water anymore. So they literally took off the handle to the faucet where you’d normally hook up a hose to fill your RV while you camp. Absolutely ridiculous they would take away this amenity. There is a full station about 15 min away but it’s a pain. They will still let you get water in a bucket or jug but that’s it, unless you manage to get one of the C loop sites that has water and electricity at the site. This new management needs to change things or we won’t be coming back here. Used to be a well managed government campground but not anymore.

Absolutely gorgeous area. I had area T01, which included a picnic table, bear box for storage, fire pit/grill, and a flat area for my tent. T01 had private water access which was great for paddle boarding! However, this specific site also seemed "open" and not as private as other options, as the picnic table and fire area were right next to the parking lot and vault toilets. People had to walk by the campsite several times. The campsite itself is near some gorgeous trails (Old Dillon Reservoir Loop is a 10 min walk away) and a 10 min drive away from town. Would stay here again!
