Disappointing Experience at Hermits Hollow, Coombe Abbey
I recently visited Hermits Hollow at Coombe Abbey and I must say, my experience was far from pleasant. As an adult seeking a relaxing outing, I was sorely disappointed by the lack of seating options. The only choice provided was a crude half-cut tree trunk, hardly comfortable for an extended stay. To add to the frustration, the payment process was an ordeal in itself. Hermits Hollow does not accept cash, which is inconvenient in itself, but the payment method they offered was a tablet browser. This left me concerned about the security of my credit card details, as there was no reassurance about data protection.
Furthermore, the absence of contactless payment alternatives exacerbated the issue, leaving patrons with limited options. Personally, I couldn't even use my own phone for payment due to the abysmal network coverage in the area, compounding the payment difficulties. The costs of the food available were nothing short of astonishing. I understand that venues often have higher prices, but what I encountered at Hermits Hollow felt like an unnecessary exploitation of visitors.
Even for children, the offerings were disappointingly sparse - just two slides hardly justify the steep £4 price for a mere two hours. It left me wondering why anyone would willingly part with their hard-earned money for such a lackluster experience.
In conclusion, my visit to Hermits Hollow was marked by discomfort, inconvenience, and a sense of being taken advantage of. I feel compelled to share my experience to warn others who might consider visiting. The picturesque location of Coombe Abbey deserves far better than what Hermits Hollow...
Read moreRangers on a power trip. First night the ranger accused my father in law of being drunk because he was walking back from taking the trash and raised his hand in the air when they approached with their brights in his face. They said "Thats how you get slapped out here". Gets out of the car, walks over to me making remarks about how my father in law is drunk all because he walked away and did not engage the behavior the ranger was displaying, and he was not even drinking. Day two, same ranger comes back for more. One top of his ridiculous comments on alllllll the rules we were breaking (Which I'll admit we had broken some of which we were not aware of, a simple, "hey these are the rules" would have sufficed) He literally walks over to our axe, picks it up, swings it back and forth by his feet and says "Now, we aren't going to have any trouble here tonight are we?" WHAT!! I could not believe it! This ranger was out of control and totally ruined our stay. This is the kind of behavior that gives rangers and honestly anyone upholding the law a bad reputation. A couple of us end up writing a letter to the park and his supervisor. They claim they identified him and spoke with him. If you ask me, I highly doubt it. And even if they did what we wanted was an apology....from him. My advice, go anywhere but here and definitely don't bring your family. What a terrible example these men set. (Side note, we did interact with a female ranger, long brown ponytail, who was the total opposite, listened to us, compromised, checked in, acted like an adult and spoke to us with respect. Guess what....we did everything she asked. Funny...
Read moreBeautiful campground but the park rangers here have little to no respect and contradict each other on rules/regulations. First off we had 2 sites reserved for 12 people and we called ahead and were told you can fit as many cars as you want in the spots as long as they fit. We had 3 cars in each with room for one more. On day two a set of rangers came by and told us we had to move one car from each due to it not being fair to other campsites to overflow just a minute away.... minute away to them is over 1 mile. The next glaring issue with these camp rangers is on night one after we have put out fire, packed food into cars, and gotten into bed around 11:30 pm we get the park rangers pulling their vehicle into our spot with their lights pointed right onto our tent waking us up at 1 am then proceed to walk around the site talking loudly to us asking if fire is put out and complaining we had dog leashes tied to a nearby tree. We then also got complained to that with 2 neighboring sites we had to have a max of 4 tents on one and 4 tents in other site and could not have 5 tents in the one site. Overall the site is nice and clean but the park rangers ruined this camping experience for our group.
Also in reply to a comment saying park rangers are in control I agree with its fine when they are driving around checking up but they are intrusive and have no right to barge into site at 1 am when fire was clearly out and we were...
