UNDERWHELMED. My fiancé & I wanted to get away for our birthday weekend. Paid extra for a king bed & a view. At check-in, we were offered an “upgrade” for $35/ night. We thought, “why not? Let’s treat ourselves.” We set out for the new room, which was at the other end of the resort. It was a trek & an uncomfortable one as we had to walk outside in the heat for most of the trek. Get to the new room & it’s gloomy, drab, & the “view” was of strangers within feet of our patio on the walking path. No privacy, no view & it’s close to the daycare & kids’ pool so it’s noisy. We could hear kids screaming & honestly, we were there to get away from kids so we called the front desk to switch rooms. Get to the NEW room & see a queen bed, we paid for a king. So I ask “can we please have a room with the king we paid for?” Guy says “no, that is a king. I can show you another room so you’ll see they’re all the same, if that will help.” I read other reviews & like everyone else says, they aren’t king beds. We measured the bed, per our measurements & the universal bed sizes online, these beds aren’t king OR queen size. They’re a random size somewhere between queen & king. Ok fine, we’re tired & just want to rest. Wake up the next day wanting to make a coffee in our room, only decaf coffee packets. Fine, we’ll have coffee at breakfast. We called down to ask about the “free breakfast offer” we booked. It’s a $32 credit per room/day. No one told us how to get our “free” breakfast when we checked in. We went down to the restaurant serving a buffet. $16/person + automatic 18% gratuity & tax. Powdered scrambled eggs, everything else was cold & had been there for a while. Rode bikes after breakfast. This was fun & the trails were nice. But the process of renting bikes & the selection were both subpar. Groups of people standing around, no order, rhyme, or reason. If you get a bike that works for you, good job, if you can’t find one that works, too bad. They won’t adjust the seat for you. Headed out for lunch since the food at the resort was not good. Be ready to drive for food. Because they aren’t doing valet, you’re gonna walk quite a bit to the parking lot. After lunch, we went swimming at the adult pool & because of covid restrictions, only one person is allowed per lane at a time. Even if you share a room/bed, they won’t let you share a lane. There are 4 or 5 lanes in this small pool so if you don’t get there first, you’ll be waiting to swim until someone decides they’re done swimming. And you have to be swimming the entire time, you can’t stand in the pool & lounge around. Business only. There’s no music playing, the atmosphere felt so cold; you’re all sitting around an enclosed circle staring at each other because you can’t get in the pool. It wasn’t fun or relaxing. It was weird. There was one server for about 20-25 people. We waited quite a while to place an order for drinks/snacks. longer to get our order, even longer to get our check so we could leave which made us almost late for our 5:30pm meet-up for horseback riding. Went back to the room to get ready for horseback riding & noticed that housekeeping STILL hadn’t been by, at 530pm. Called to front desk to ask when we could expect our room to be freshened up w/ clean towels & coffee, paper coffee cups, bottled water. They don’t do that unless you’re staying 5 days+. Blamed Covid. I call BS. I’ve stayed at other resorts during the pandemic. They freshened up the room daily, no problem. We asked front desk staff to bring some towels to our room & they said ok. We waited & waited. They never came. We stood at the front desk & waited for our towels. At check-out we call for a luggage cart to be brought to our room. They can’t bring one because of covid. Supposedly they can bring towels & offer room service, but they can’t bring a luggage cart to our door. They’re using Covid as a reason to not provide guest services & it’s ridiculous. We pay daily resort fees to get resort service. I‘m underwhelmed &...
Read moreI've stayed here many times, all prior to COVID, mind you. Our overnight stay was not up to par as is usual here. The room was nice. The cleanliness of the bathroom left a lot to be desired. The toilet had a yellow stain in it that was clearly from hard toilet water sitting and the bowl not being scrubbed out. I failed to take picture and let it go as all else seemed good. I set my toiletries on the bathroom counter tops and in the shower, with my plastic travel soap case which was brand new with my special facial soap in it. When I packed up the from the bathroom they stunk, they were sour from the surfaces in the bathtub. My body scrub, soap dish and travel shampoo and conditioner all smelled sour where the containers were resting on the surface of the bathtub corners. It was apparent the tub surfaces were not clean and disinfected. Maybe they were wiped down with a sour towel? Had I been staying a an inexpensive hotel that would have been one thing. When you are paying upwards of $300 a night for a room you anticipate that the room will be cleaned to a higher standard. I still left a tip for housekeeping when we checked out. My second complaint was spending $100.00 for room service for breakfast. I also added a $15.00 tip on top of the $15.00 room service fee, I am very generous to the staff that is pulling more than their weight in being shorthanded since businesses have opened back up during the pandemic. The breakfast was served in plastic containers with flexible plastic utensils in paper tote bags. This didn't matter but the food was COLD. My bagel was burnt, the chicken sausage was so tough it could have been used as a door stop, I could NOT even cut it with the knife and the fork. The bacon was so dry it fell apart and the chicken sausage link could not be cut at all, I could have dented the wall with it. I called room service to replace the bagel and the cold scrambled eggs. I told her I would not let the General Manager know but gave her the sausage and the burnt bagel to take back to show the Chef. I told her they need to see what they are serving. I do not believe the food was cooked fresh at all and was sitting in a warmer all morning and placed in containers and sent up to our room. The toast was probably cooked fresh but it was cold. The pancakes were under cooked and the cold pats of butter would not melt on them as they too, were cold. There was no microwave in the room to heat them up. I decided to leave a poor review as spending $100.00 for breakfast, you'd expect it to be better than McDonald's. McDonald's gets a better rating. You can cut the sausage with plastic utensils and the food is warm and prepared fresh. This was not a fresh meal by any means. My last complaint is that the grill and the bar closed at 10:00pm on a Friday night. I think the hotel stands to make a great deal of money if they kept a few people on staff to serve drinks to the guests that want to enjoy the balcony and the tiki torches in the serene atmosphere. It's a nice way to unwind by yourself or with friends after dinner. The kids went to the room to watch a movie and I finished my Sangria from dinner on the patio and it would have been so nice to order another. Several guests were talking about and it was mentioned as a disappointment by the couple sitting next to me, as well. The balcony from my room faced the golf course and it was pitch dark, there was no balcony light to enjoy sitting at the table and chairs off the room in the evening. To pay for a luxury resort and spa you really pay for the "EXPERIENCE." It felt like a child/teen curfew having the pool close at 8:00pm and the grill and spirits close at 10:00pm. For an adult enjoying a getaway there would be some amenities that are available in the later evening. Keeping the lounge open until 11:00pm or 12 midnight would be a wonderful improvement on Friday's and Saturday's. The Quiet Zone pool and jacuzzi could be left open until 10:00pm and let the...
Read moreI have heard nothing but great things about the Tamaya Resort, however, my experience was not that. My friends and I went there for a friend's birthday celebration and we arrived an hour after check-in and couldn't wait to swim. When we went down to swim, the pool attendants told us that we couldn't swim because of lightning (which is understandable) so we wanted to get drinks and just sit by the pool. Apparently drinks stop being served at the pool at 5:30pm which in our opinion is when most people START drinking so that was very disappointing. We left and got ready for our 8pm dinner reservation at the Corn Maiden. We thought since the pool closes at 10pm, we could swim for an hour after dinner. When we arrived at the restaurant a minute before our reservation, we were seated right away but weren't greeted by our waitress until 10 minutes later! We asked for water and drinks as well as complimentary bread. Another 15 minutes go by while we see other getting drinks and the waitresses help and we finally get our water, whoch the waitress spilled all over our table. We asked about the alcoholic drinks and bread again. We then waited another 20 minutes until the drinks came out and another 5 minutes until our bread finally came out. The food was okay, way too much sauce and dressing and way too pricey for what we got. The waitress then forgot about us again when we tried to get our check and had to wait another 15 minutes and after asking another waiter where she was. We asked the front desk on our way to change for the pool just to confirm the pool wasn't closing until 10pm and they said yes, it's still open and this was at 9pm. We got changed very quickly and ran down to the pool which was pitch dark and our key cards would not let us into the pool because apparently they decided to close the pool early, at 9pm. Wow, thanks so much. Another disappointment. The staff has no communication or knowlwdge of what the heck is going on. Our room was beautiful but as the night progressed (we had our balcony door closed at all times) more and more bugs like beetles and spiders and flies were coming in from who knows where. It was disgusting and we couldn't sleep very well. When we went to eat in the hotel dining room for breakfast, a different waitress forgot anout us for 10 minutes and I had to ask another waiter who our waitress was. She didn't tell us if we needed to order from the menu or the buffet with our breakfast package. The entire time we were there we were not paid any attention to by our waitress. When we wanted to leave to go swimming finally, she was no where to be seen. We waited another 15 minutes for our vheck which forgot twice after we asked for it. Swimming finally was allowed to happen for us and we wanted drinks by the pool since it wasn't happening the day before. We were told by the pool boy that the bar opened at 11am. Okay, so we waited. 11am, 11:30 nothing was happening at the bar. We asked someone else, they said that it opened at 12pm. Wow, great. So our check out was 12pm and that's when the pool bar opens?! So most people don't get to enjoy a drink by the pool at all unless you check in right at 4pm and go to the pool at like 4:30pm and can enjoy maybe one drink before they close the bar? Not customer friendly and they don’t think these things through at all. So ridiculous for the extremely high price tag. Will not be going here EVER again. Horrible service...
