I tried to leave a much more detailed review but it was too long.

Let me just say that Grand Hacienda hosts Carolyn and Tom are not only fantastic hosts, they are warm, caring and compassionate people.

At 5 pm, my husband and I were an hour away from the GH when our rental car got a flat tire. No spare!

We talked with the rental car agent about getting a replacement tire, buying a tire, etc.

They said, “No… a tow truck has to come get you and drive you BACK to ALBUQUERQUE to exchange vehicles.”

!!!!!

That whole process would have put us back at the GH in the wee hours.

We called Tom and Carolyn at the Grand Hacienda to explain our situation.

Grand Hacienda host Tom said, “I’ll come get you.”

At first we said No!

Then my husband and I realized it was the logical thing to do.

So Tom drove and hour from GH, picked us up, drove us back an hour TO GH!

Carolyn greeted us calmly and warmly and made us feel at home. She showed us our big, comfy, well decorated “Georgia O’Keeffe Suite.”

It was so late but Carolyn said, “We’ll have dinner ready for you at 8:15.”

She had prepared a lovely, scrumptious and healthy dinner for us WAY after the usual time!

We were very shaken by our flat tire event… two pitbulls BIT through our tire when we were stopped by a rural house! Serious!

Carolyn and Tom were so compassionate about our scare/predicament.

Tom and Carolyn are trained chefs. They can create delicious meals for your specific dietary needs. Carolyn remembered I was a vegetarian and my husband can’t eat dairy products. She prepared a lovely multi-course dinner with so much attention to tiny culinary details. We ate and had some wine. We started to decompress.

Soon after dinner, we went to bed. We had the best night’s sleep we had had in days. It was sooooo quiet and cozy!

The next morning, we woke up and pulled back the curtains. We were surrounded by gorgeous landscapes in every direction. Morning sun reflecting on the lake, mountains, hills dotted with cedars… spectacular!

Carolyn and Tom prepared a delicious and healthy breakfast with so much attention to detail. Crepes, a refreshing small salad, fresh fruit and hot coffee beverages (cappuccinos, etc), a yummy fresh juice beverage.

Unfortunately we had to leave early to deal with the whole tow truck situation.

Know that when you come to the Grand Hacienda, your every need will be taken care of by Tom & Carolyn.

They want you to experience the beauty of the area, to decompress and enjoy a healthy and revitalizing stay.

You will find breathtaking landscapes, interesting grounds with southwest decor, a cozy/comfy/quiet room, a viewing roof, a wine list, games, a lake for recreation, hills for hiking, a reading area with books and a fireplace.

Best of all, you will meet Carolyn and Tom!

Thank you for everything you did for us! You are wonderful...

We stayed for three nights back in September, and as with every bed and breakfast approved by Select Registry the property is incredible. It is one of our favorites now, and we can't wait to go back. |The new manager's of the property Christopher and Jessica are fabulous hosts.|From the moment we stepped through the wooden entrance doors, we felt a calm and peace fall over us. ||We stayed in the Abiquiu Lake Suite and it was amazing. Jessica greeted us and showed us around the property and our suite and we settled in.|The Hacienda is tucked on a hill, down several dirt roads and through an entrance gate, you may begin to wonder if you are on the right path, just follow their instructions and you will be fine.||The property is beautiful with stunning views.|With just 3 rooms, you will feel like you have the place to yourself. The breakfast room/great room with a fireplace is a wonderful gathering spot with games. Step out on the patio or walk down the short path to the jacuzzi, it is beautiful.||Now to our room. The king bed was so comfortable, the two indoor chairs at the foot of the bed are comfy and easy to sit and read. But even better, step out onto your private patio with chaise lounges and soak in the views of the lake and landscape. All 3 rooms have their own private patio's, you can't go wrong with any of them. The bathroom was huge with double sinks and the shower huge. We were extremely comfortable.||The breakfasts at the inn are scrumptious. Our first breakfast started with vanilla yogurt and chia seeds, topped with honey, fresh fruit and mint. Then Jessica brought out Avocado toast with pine nuts and a soft egg. By now I am happily full. But wait, Jessica and Christopher bring out the main breakfast walnut bread french toast with syrup and almond whipped cream, with potato hash. Mr. B had ham also, with me being primarily vegetarian I had roasted fresh figs with goat cheese. We did have dinner one night during our stay and again it was delicious.|Each afternoon, there is a snack for the guests in the great room too.||There is a guest utility type room with a refrigerator, so if you have drinks or juices you want to keep cold, you can store them in the fridge.||Our stay was truly memorable, it couldn't have been any better and exceeded our expectations. We will absolutely go back just to relax...

We should’ve left this review days ago, but we are honestly still at a loss for words. Everything about The Grand Hacienda was phenomenal! The hosts, Carolyn and Tom, were warm, and beyond accommodating in every way. Never did we expect the level of care and attention to detail with which we were greeted. The only problem we ran into was having to leave! Honestly, we absolutely couldn’t have had a better time. Everything from the seemingly complicated, yet perfectly described directions to the location, the endless choices of games, books, and other items in the common room, and the lovely happy hour hors d’ouvres were enough to let us know this place was pretty special. That, however wonderful, paled in comparison to the absolutely spectacular views of the heavens in some of the darkest skies we have ever witnessed. Not being much into astronomy, we were initially bewildered by the amount of stars visible. That was until we realized we were gazing at The Milky Way. I had ever witnessed it first hand. Needless to say, we enjoyed everything about the sky with the binoculars and telescopes provided by the hosts, while relaxing to smooth jazz next to the Piñon wood fire, burning in the Chimenea on our patio. Had it not been for the coyotes we heard in the distance, we would have slept on the patio loungers under The Milky Way. We finally retired to our suite at 3 am. The morning breakfast prepared by the hosts was superb, as was the crisp morning air gently flowing into our room. We didn’t spend but one evening at The Grand Hacienda at Abiquiu Lake, but it was hands down, one of the most spectacular evenings either one of us has ever experienced. To say we will be returning here in the very near future is an understatement.

The Grand Hacienda was one of the best places I have ever stayed. From the time we walked through the blue doors until checkout, owners Tom and Carolyn Calfee made us feel like we were the most important guests they’d ever had. The three rooms of the Hacienda are elegantly and comfortably appointed. Large windows give you a stunning view of the surrounding area including Abiquiú Lake and Cerro Pedernal. Each morning, you are served a delicious gourmet breakfast, prepared and served with commentary about local ingredients and preparation techniques. There is much to do in the area, including hiking at Ghost Ranch (my favorite!). You can relax in the Great Room, work fully connected outside , read, watch the news in your room or participate in an evening Jenga game, or relax in the hot tub. You may sign up for superb dinners that always surprise and delight. A guest kitchen and laundry facility are available for your use. You will be amazed when Tom explains how the Grand Hacienda was constructed and how it is operated with such care, with the safety, comfort and delight of their customers always the goal. This is not an inexpensive experience, but you get value for every dollar spent at this fabulous boutique resort. Book soon, because demand is high! Can’t wait to go back one day soon to visit the Land of Enchantment and to be pampered and enchanted by the Grand Hacienda.

Where do I begin? Five stars just don’t do the justice for the hearts and souls of the owner, Carolyn and Tom, I would give the Milky Way above the Hacienda! It’s like an endearing love story, it began as soon as you turned into a winding gravel road from the main road. We just kept guessing which one is it and we were awe inspiring when we drove to the top . And the most heart warming smile came from the wooden gate , like an old friend from many lifetimes ago welcoming us. Our hearts melted. The view, the fresh herb garden, and classically appointed room just beyond our expectations! The gracious hosts offered us to dine with the most pleasant and warm couple for dinner even though we didn’t book it in advance and what a dinner it was! The breakfast was beyond any expectations! Layers of sophisticated, refined, and well balanced flavor coming from freshly picked herbs from organic garden! Words just can’t describe so I will attach pictures! Just can’t thank Carolyn and Tom enough for the wonderful and heart warming experience in a one short stay. Thank you so much Wendy and Chris! Y’all made our stay extra special!
