I've been visiting this scenic spot for years, and I'm shocked to learn Denver Water is enabling a fee system and will now charge $30.00 a day for camping that has always been free before. This is a ridiculously high fee for campsites that have no utilities or sewer dump. There is also no fresh water available anywhere on the property. The closest water with public access I could find is in Granby, 30 some miles away. Many of the campsites are on un-level ground with numerous rodent holes as well. It's a dispersed camping landscape, with few improved campground sites. To pay, you will need to call a 3rd party vendor and furnish a credit card number. There will apparently be no way to pay in cash onsite, a discriminatory set-up. The National Park Service is currently being sued for the same type of discrimination. Requiring a credit card number to access public land discriminates against low income Americans and also international tourists. This is a current trend on public lands, charging outrageous fees that exclude specific classes of users. I realize Denver has money trouble, but punishing recreational users who are already struggling with inflation is an enormous insult. I'm canceling my plans to visit the scenic Williams Fork as a result and encourage others to do the same. Denver Water should be boycotted for this...
Read moreA beautiful spot in the heart of Middle Park cattle country. There are some impressive ranches upstream along a wide easy to drive gravel road that eventually leads into Arapaho National Forest lands. The Middle Park basin floor is a sub-alpine desert that is moisture starved because its surrounded by high ranges. Extremely cold in the winter. My only complaint about the campground is there's no running water available which seems noteworthy. (The owner is none other than The Denver Water Board. ) I didn't use the dump station because of the lack of running water. Seems a bit unsanitary, don't you think, Denver Water Board? The three bear proof dumpsters were a nice...
Read moreWe’ve loved coming to this no-frills campground for the past 10 years, at least. We were surprised at the fee this year. The campground host said it would be $25/ night. It ended up being $30. This is for a place with pit toilets, a dump station, and trash bins. No other amenities. I.E. No water. Unlike other visits, when it was free, there was trash everywhere, including bottle caps and broken glass at our campsite. And the dump station was Full/Closed. Good thing we come...
