To start, I am not writing this to tear down Disney. I merely want it to serve as a warning for anyone with asthma or other breathing difficulties who may be considering a value resort on property. Please do not make the mistake that we did.||We stayed at All Star Movies in the Dalmatians section for 2 and a half weeks, and to begin with we were in heaven. Everything is very in your face Disney and immediately you feel encapsulated by the embrace of the bubble. It's a warm and happy feeling, so I will begin with the positives.||The resort itself is just the right size. It's not as extensive as Pop/AoA, so whatever section you are in you do not have far to go for either amenities at Movies or those at Music next door. All of the statues are GORGEOUS and you can spend a few hours alone just walking around taking photos in the different areas.||The Fantasia pool is a stunning feature pool with plenty for kids and adults to enjoy and regular entertainment. It does also have wide steps with hand rail for entry, and is attended with a pool chair hoist for those who would require assistance. The Might Ducks pool has the same, but is smaller in size - decent enough for what it needs to be. Both provide towels at poolside.||The rooms are surprisingly big. I imagine if you had the murphy bed down regularly or permanently it may feel more cramped, but with the bed up it had enough space to use as a general base, with a decent sized bathroom and sliding lock off doors, plenty of clothing storage and drying space for bathers, and - if yours works correctly - a large flatscreen television with a small number of channels aimed at kids. It also has a coffee machine and beverage cooler though be warned that this is quite shallow in depth.||The bus service from the resort is decently regular if you don't mind waiting or getting to the stop early, and Lyft/Uber pickups are easy to access from the front entrance. ||The resort arcade is a nice little area for a laugh, with the most hilarious massage chairs ever, and the shop has enough stuff to supplement the merchandise in the parks themselves. It also has a fair selection of packaged food and drink if you didn't fancy a food court special.||Overall the theming is great, kids will have a blast and if you're using it as just a base to get to the parks with early access, it's one of the cheaper ways to do it... But now the things you need to watch out for!||Pool times. I was aware that these were variable, but also had been told that 8am-10pm was the norm even if just for the smaller pool. For our entire stay neither pool opened until 10am... Not a huge deal in the grand scheme, but it very quickly took 'morning swim' off the docket for us, so be warned if that is your plan it may not be possible!||Food court. We booked through a 3rd party, so perhaps this is why we weren't told, but the food court is currently under refurbishment. It was due to finish when we arrived but appears now it won't finish until October of this year. At the time we were there, the lobby side was open. I believe this has just been shut as of mid Sept so they can work on this area (which I believed had already been done, but it explains why one of the two drinks machines was providing rancid beverages...) When we went there weren't really any omissions, and the food was about what you'd expect... Bit soggy, but sustenance to get you through to your next meal.||This next one is for diabetics in particular. I checked extensively before I booked any of this that a proper small fridge that could reach an appropriate insulin temperature could be provided in place of the cooler and was ensured this was the case. Had I known otherwise, I'd have immediately gone offsite to a self-catering as I know asking for this is a lot of a budget hotel. I began having my doubts when I rang up the week before we were flying to make sure they had the request and was told Oh you didn't book through us so nothing we can do for you, you'll have to ask when you get here but tbh I don't think we do that. At this point my heart sank as there was no getting around it now so just had to hope the lowest temp in the cooler was enough - thankfully it is, but it is literally just on the edge. I was also assured sharps bins could be requested from front desk. We did this and were told housekeeping would bring one for us... Now the housekeeper was lovely, but she had to search the entire resort for both a fridge and sharps containers before returning with 2 little plastic pots after around an hour (this is when we confirmed there was no fridge.) When we saw them we couldn't hide that this was a surprise to us as they were nowhere near big enough to hold even a days worth of needles. To her credit, she went off and came back with 2 more another 30 mins later but by this time we wanted to head out so just resigned to requesting more as the trip went on. So if you're UK based esp... Bring your sharps bin, regardless of what you are told. You'll save yourself a LOT of time. (No shade to the housekeeper, I just felt bad that she had run round the entire resort for 90 minutes to find something we had been told was readily available!)||Finally... cleanliness. And my main reason for writing this. On the surface, the room looked clean, it felt clean, we were really pleased... And then my Husband got incredibly sick, coughing non-stop everytime he entered the room, even his throat close to closing up a couple of times. But I thought 'it can't be the room though, it's Disney, it's clean!' So I rationalised as best I could. Air con sickness? Okay, let's turn the AC off and buy some fans at Walmart. Hayfever? Dose him up on decongestant. Dehydration? More water. But nothing worked. We spent a night at Loews at Universal as a treat and were both ill for the entire stay because of the All Star hotel room and could not understand why. And then I pulled the hand luggage cases off the murphy bed on our final weekend...||A literal cloud of dust followed both cases down, covering the table and the floor. I climbed onto the table to look and lo and behold, there was our answer. A thick layer of white and grey dust sitting merrily above the murphy bed. And the more I looked the more I found, and the more I found the more upset I became. It's a budget hotel, yes. But it's still £170~ a night. I do not expect to have to clean my hotel room for that price, especially with housekeeping coming sporadically throughout the trip. ||We used every towel we had to clean every surface (see images) and then went to front desk to express our concern. They said they would send a team to deep clean the following day, and would send more fresh towels up. When we returned the following day, I expected to be hit with the smell of cleaner... Nothing. There was dust on the floor still from the night before, odd patches I'd missed because I was so angry. The towels had been replaced, the air con filter changed (altho instead of cleaning the vent grills of the grime and mould they'd just been flipped up to hide it - image) but that was it. At this point I left the DnD sign on the door, turned off the AC one again and resigned to just surviving to the end of our trip. ||My Husband has lung scarring from a missed chest infection diagnosis 5 years ago, and this is how he reacted. So I beg anyone looking to stay here who has asthma, COPD or worse... Please inspect your room on arrival. Do not trust that it will be clean like I did... Otherwise you'll lose a large portion of your trip to sickness.||I wanted to love this resort, and deep down I still really did. It was great to be a part of the bubble and surrounded by the magic... But in this case I think it was both a blessing and a curse sadly, and has guaranteed that we'll be off property in future with an odd night in a...
Read moreMy family and I stayed at the Disney All-Star Movie Resort from a Sunday night to a Friday. I combined this with the three day pass as well for us to have three days of parks and a day of rest, as well as a slow day to pack up and leave on Friday.
The financial side : in combination with the three day pass, a five night stay ran us close to $2400. We are not pass holders and did not have any sort of discount. Seemed a bit pricey but it is a resort and it was on Disney property.
The location : it was super convenient to be in the resort area. We fully utilized the bus transportation. It was a bit annoying to get on and off with a stroller, and in the mornings during park rush the buses were packed to the gills which left us with nearly no room to move while gripping tightly to whatever is near you. We left each park a hair before closing just to enjoy bus transport back to the resort without it being packed. All-Star Movies is located in the back, and most bus lines do have a direct to that resort instead of having to go through Sports and Music resorts first. The bonus of being in the back meant less traffic and quieter surroundings.
The amenities : the pool was amazing, the Fantasia Mickey pool was our favorite. The World Premier had great food for a food court for the price in my opinion, and Donald's Feature was a great gift shop to get everything we wanted souvenir wise. We did use the laundry services onsite one time, you do have to pay for the detergent if you didn't bring it (powdered from a vending machine at a $1 a pop for a load) and about $3.50 for a wash cycle and another $3.50 for a dry cycle. The building we stayed in had life size checkers and chess which was cool as well.
The room : So the room itself was a bit lackluster. We paid for a preferred room which was a queen size bed with a fold down twin that came down in place of the dining table. There was only a drink cooler and coffee machine, and we didn't figure out until the next day we had to turn on the cooler. Which got the drinks to a cool to the touch temperature, so don't expect to store anything cold here, bring your own cooler and use the ice machine in the building. The bed was comfortable enough, and the AC was adequate as it was not super hot but the thermostat refused to keep the fan on. It switched back to auto frequently. I could see it being an issue keeping the room cold as the thermostat was directly below the only vent in the room from what I could see. The room's flooring was also a bit uneven, and one panel depressed slightly when stepped on. Which wasn't a big deal but was alarming the first time I stepped on it. The bathroom was great, shower was fantastic and the amenities in there were perfect
Noise and neighbors : I was very surprised that the rooms seemed well insulated. Unless somebody talked right outside your window, you could not hear any other noise. Of course, you could hear your neighbors (mostly above you) moving around in the morning prior to park opening time (6 am to 8 am ish). Mostly flushing and some thumping but nothing super obnoxious. We did have some neighbors who would pull their dining chairs onto the walkway outside our door around dinner time and blocked our door a few times during our stay and would look annoyed they had to move for us but other than that everything was fine.
All in all, I can't complain too much and all my issues were relatively minor. There were lots of magical moments for my 3 year old with the cast members which I will be thankful for, and their service was impeccable. Special shout out to Andy who got our luggage down to the car in one trip, saving me three trips during check out. In the future, I think when my family returns, I'll save up some more and splurge on a slightly...
Read moreThis resort is a well-appointed budget-friendly hotel on Disney World property. The key phrase here is “budget-friendly”.||To get the negative said first, if you are looking for luxury and sophistication, this resort is not for you. All-Star Movies is a motel-style accommodation aimed primarily at families with children. It therefore has to be judged on its own terms rather than compared with other, more opulent (and expensive) options at Disney World and Orlando as a whole. ||The resort has a quick-service dining room, which offers a range of reasonably priced meals. It’s plain fare, but nothing wrong with it. The dining hall does have something of a “school cafeteria” feel to it. It gets crowded and difficult to find a table at certain times, and families with lots of young children can make the place quite rowdy. That said, you do have the option of mobile ordering and taking your meal back to your room if you want to be away from the noise.||The resort has two pools, one of which is the magnificent “sorcerer Mickey” pool. The other, smaller, pool is located in the Mighty Ducks area. It is worth mentioning that the smaller pool is not a quiet or adults only pool. Both pools are very much designed with families and children in mind, so be prepared to share with splashing children. ||Turning to the accommodation, the rooms are nicely done, having been refurbished over the past 2 years. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in at any hotel. The rooms are well air-conditioned and as such are the perfect retreat from the Florida heat and humidity. The rooms are thoroughly serviced every other day throughout your stay. The only criticism of the rooms is that they are not sound proofed, so you often hear voices and chairs scraping from adjacent rooms. This can be a problem if there are children next door or above you.||The smart TVs and “Hey Disney” (Alexa) in the rooms are a nice touch. Each room has a safe for valuables.||The resort benefits from having a communal pay-per-use laundrette equipped with washing machines and tumble dryers. This means you don’t need to bring too many clothes for a long trip.||The resort has a nice boutique gift shop which offers a wide range of Disney souvenirs and items from the parks. ||The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to ensure that your stay is as comfortable and magical as possible, so no criticisms there. The resort also benefits from regular child-friendly entertainment, including regular screenings of classic and more contemporary Disney films, which is sure to delight fans both young and old.||Being a Disney hotel, there is frequent and complimentary bus transport to all of the theme parks and Disney Springs, so you are well placed to explore and experience all of that Disney magic. The fact that this is budget accommodation does not detract from the Disney World experience in any way.||Overall I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for an on-site Disney experience with all of the perks and advantages that this offers, without breaking the bank. All the while, however, bear in mind that this resort primarily caters to families with young children. If you want a more adult oriented and luxurious experience, you’re better off booking one of the more expensive options in...
