Evans Lake Resort is a fantastic choice for a family vacation. We spent a fun and relaxing week swimming, sunbathing, participating in a variety of water sports and most of all making great memories together. In fact, it was so memorable that we have decided to make it a summer tradition and return each summer going forward.
We stayed in the charming Lakeside Cottage. It was delightful. The owners, Thomas and Alan, have done an excellent job updating the interior to be modern and beautiful. It was cozy and comfortable and perfect for our family of four. We took many restful naps between activities in the two beds and pull out sofa and enjoyed quiet, peaceful nights getting plenty of rest. Our cottage had everything we needed for meal preparation, washing off the days activities and unwinding with streaming service. There was plenty of space for everyone's gear and lots of hooks for our towels and bathing suits.
The accommodations are amazing but what really stands out is the lake access. We had so much freedom to explore Evans Lake during our stay. The resort has a variety of gear that was free for our use at any time. The orange kayak was our 10 year old son's absolute favorite activity. We journeyed in all directions around the lake with the resort being our push off point. Our 5 year old daughter spent most of her time playing in the beach area which was steps away from our cottage. The resort has an area roped off with shallow to about 5 foot depth off the shoreline. This was a huge benefit that allowed my hubby and I to relax without worry on the shore while the kids played for hours in the lake. Additionally, there were lots of options for our kids to gain confidence in lake swimming. By the end of our stay the floating dock was my daughter's favorite spot to practice jumping off into deeper water.
We spent evenings relaxing next to the lake in loungers with our toes in the sand. The giant bonfire pits are super fun and the kids loved watching the sun go down on the lake while eating s'mores. Added bonus to our trip was 4th of July celebrations with multiple nights of fireworks and a boat parade.
I even tried stand up paddle boarding while at the resort through a local company the resort recommended to me.
There is a place to do laundry and also lots of spots to grill and enjoy barbecues or picnics. The community around the area is friendly and unique. We enjoyed several countryside drives and ate at some yummy spots in the Irish Hills.
We were able to completely disengage from all of the craziness of our normal routines back in Colorado and enjoy a very relaxing time together as a family at Evans Lake Resort. We are looking so forward to our trip that's already...
Read moreWe just had the most amazing stay on Evans Lake. First, I have to say this place is listed as 2 star but it really 3++ stars. The rooms are immaculate, comfortable and thoughtfully furnished and obviously well maintained. We had everything we needed for our 6 day stay at the resort. Beach is kept cleaned & raked and the grounds were immaculate. We were so lucky to arrive from AZ where it was hot as hades to comfortably cool temps in the 50's and the place was gorgeous in spite of the rain and we got to see the turning of the leaves (you get this is your from the desert) we were elated. Our view from our cabin was amazing and serene, quietly calming, exactly what we needed for our getaway. Sitting on the sofa I could watch the breeze and rain ripple across the lake. so calming and beautiful. Also this place is perfectly positioned for all your needs. Found a grocery store 15 minutes away (much closer places are available but we wanted a fully grocery store as the cabin had all the basics for cooking, a bonus for us) There is also a cool restaurant, bar directly across the street with good food and quality people serving, and many more yummy restaurants & bars within a quick 20 minute drive. Whether your visit is in the peak of lake season (we will be back to experience the lake in summer) or rolling into the gloomy days of winter you cannot go wrong choosing Evans Lake Resort as your place to chill and relax. There isn't a bad view in the place. We were able to sleep in and wake up late (much needed) as the areas is so quiet (fall time) We were lucky to experience a boat ride around the lake, where you really get to feel how special this hidden gem in the Irish hills is. Beautiful sunsets, swans swimming, peace and tranquility and great food and drink, what more can you ask for in a quick break away from reality! You have everything you could want or need right at your fingertips. there is plenty to do and see (we just enjoyed driving through the hills and experiencing the beauty of all the trees), but we also visited the local town (Tecumseh) and their appleumpkin festival (massive filled with so many booths and vendors the whole town was taken over). They also have a cool art walk where you can walk through the town and see all the amazing sculptures with details of the artists. We also visited a local winery that had an 80's hairband playing! Plenty of Antique stores to walk around for days. The list keeps going of fun things to check out all within a stones throw of this amazing resort. PS the hosts; Thomas and AL are amazing, more than hospitable they were wonderful showing us all the things we could get up to in spite of it not be peak...
Read moreHad the absolute worst experience at Evans Lake Resort this weekend. The cabin itself had some positives. It’s in a lovely location on the water with a great view. However the overall stay was significantly impacted by the owners attitude. The most frustrating issue was related to a boat we rented separately from Robs rental . We tried renting one from Evans lake but they had none available and directed us to Robs. Robs policy was a minimum 2 day rental. We rented the biggest and most expensive cabin they had from Friday to Sunday. Check out time was at 11. Unfortunately because of the 2 day minimum rental with the boat we were wasting money just turning it in and we thought as long as we checked out at 11 we could just be in the lake for a couple more hours today with the family . We were rudely and aggressively told absolutely not!!! That it was not his problem that we wasted money or that we had extra time. The lack of flexibility was not only inconvenient but just seemed unnecessarily harsh. My husband called the boat rental company and asked that the boat be immediately picked up that we were not allowed to stay on the lake . The most shocking moment occurred As we waited in the empty parking lot quietly for them to arrive . The owner approached us rudlely using profanity and demanded that we move across the street immediately . We explained we needed to get our deposit back and that they were on the way. To make matters worse he called the police on us which was completely unnecessary and scared our kids in the car. I strongly urge other families to be aware of the owner’s unprofessionalism and hostile attitude before considering this rental. While the cabins location has potential there are other great cabin rentals available that offer that same beautiful location / views and a more welcoming and professional experience . We usually rent from hideaway cove on the same lake. They were booked unfortunately and so we thought we would give this place a try. Now we know why they had availability. A huge shout out to the management at hideaway cove as they said even though we were not staying at their cabins we could have used their launch!!! They are all about customer service and making sure your family has the best time!!! DO NOT RENT FROM EVANS...
