This campground is an Enigma. It is a well-kept, well-maintained campground in a spectacular location. But it seems stuck in the 60s, which is when I imagine it was laid-out and built. The location on the Nanticoke River is beautiful and you can look west in the evenings and see some wonderful sunsets. But the campgound is small and designed for RVs of a different era. Bathrooms are clean but old and not inviting. Same for the laundry room. Don't let the listings fool you: there are only two sites with 50 amp electrical service and they do not have a sewer connection. All sites are back in--I didn't have a problem with my 37 foot motorhome but anything longer might have found it tough or impossible to back in or pull out. We were here in the fall, so we didn't need 50 amp for AC; in the summer, 50 amp is an absolute necessity to keep the coach comfortable and I know we wouldn't be comfortable here in the summertime. A positive is that the sites might be the widest I've even seen in a campground. It looks like at least 75% of the units are seasonal, so there is not a lot space for folks who can't make a large commitment. The county road leading to the campground from the state highway is gravel and in a severely wash-boarded condition. Expect to take this slow and to have your fillings shaken. The campground office is open when it is open, apparently in disregard of posted hours. The help is competent but not overly friendly. Thankfully, we are not too far from Salisbury, MD, so there is some decent OTA TV, but the park has no cable or satellite TV available. And, no Wi-Fi. I'm no fan of campground Wi-Fi, but the closest AT&T tower is too far away to provide any kind of data service. This is a know problem, we were told. These days, not having adequate cell service (which is not the fault of the campground) AND no Wi-Fi makes this a place that just does not suit our needs. Saturday night there was an apparently local bar band performing. That was a nice touch for the couple of dozen people who attended. We paid $45 per night for our stay. For that, I would have expected 50 amp or cable TV in addition to what we received. A fairer price for what we received would have been $35-40 per night. The entrance road and the skimpy basic amenities just left a bad taste...
Read moreOur visit to this campground started with our booking over the phone to book the site friendly enough staff on the phone. When we arrived we were a bit perplexed by the entry into the campground; while there is a sign at the main road once you get to the actual gate there is nothing just an arm and a keypad. Of course I had no code to get in so I took a chance and pressed the # key and magically somebody buzzed us in and the arm lifted up. The two guys that were working at the time were nice enough to make the extra effort to help us fill the propane tank on our RV that is built in. It was not an easy task as the fill station was not set up for a vehicle to drive up to it. They got the task accomplished with a smile. The campground itself is about 85% seasonal trailers as many of these types of campgrounds are. We were put adjacent to the only bathrooms which are attached to the office/campstore. Unfortunately it is not possible to be close to the beach and the bathrooms. The bathrooms, while cleaned regularly are very tired and the bathroom stalls and showers could use a complete rebuild. While the camping spots are a bit sparse for cover many offer water, sewer and electricity and are all larger than average as they boast on their website. The beach is beautiful and you can walk out to the actual roaring point. My only complaint about this campground were the rumblings from the regulars and the camp staff that the water quality in this area of the Chesapeake was poor. Bacteria levels are sometimes high preventing swimming, and as a result I did not feel comfortable letting my kids swim here which is a real shame, because it is a beautiful location on the water. I should mention that we visited over a weekend and the campground had a band on for entertainment. We had a great time listening to this local-ish cover band and thoroughly enjoyed...
Read moreI called to make reservations and was given site 66 as we had requested to be near the bath house. It was water and electric only, not full hook up at that site. We camp in a pop up, and even though we have a “shoilet” in our camper, with two kids and two adults, bathhouses are preferred to avoid constantly emptying tanks. ||Staff was very friendly, as were most of the seasonal campers there. There was a DJ on Saturday night. We didn’t directly partake but it appeared a good time was had by all :-) ||Pros: |1. roomy, level site|2. well stocked camp store |3. crabbing for the kids |4. fishing and clean up station |5. nice ability to walk to the point |6. Laundry facility ||Cons: |1. Bathrooms: ||They were “tired” as another reviewer said. The women’s were okay (each stall had an overhead can light but they weren’t working, so it was very dim) and the showers did not appear to be cleaned daily. |My husband said the men’s bathroom was pretty yucky, with hair and shampoo on the walls for the days we were there. The women’s had a bench in the front, but he said the men’s did not. Hot water was SLOW and it never really gets hot at the sinks unless you stand and hold it. ||2. THISTLES! Holy cow those things were persistent. Probably some native species, but just be aware that you need shoes to step out of your tent or camper. ||Overall, we really did have a relaxing stay and I think the friendliness of the folks there make this a place I can recommend as long as you can get past the bathrooms. The staff most likely would accommodate any requests you would have, which means a...
