We selected this hotel based on other reviewers saying how comfortable the beds were. Apparently, we didn't get one of those comfortable beds. We tossed and turned all night long, then woke up extremely sore very early the next morning. It felt like sleeping on a hard floor. The pillows didn't offer any comfort either. They flatten completely as soon as your head hits them. My husband and I each used two pillows under our heads - all contorted and folded to try to get a little height and support from them, but it didn't help any.
If you like the sound of trains, you'll LOVE this place because there is near constant train activity in this area. I swear there was a train every 10-15 minutes.
The room was fairly clean, but the tv could've been mounted higher. It's really hard to lay in bed and watch tv at such a low level when you have bifocals and MUST wear glasses to see anything. All I saw was blurriness. To sit up and watch tv in bed, you had to carefully arrange the pillows - folding and contorting them so they didn't smoosh out behind you. I gave up after about five minutes.
The bathroom was clean and very spacious. The shower head was surprisingly mounted high enough (a lot of hotels mount them way too low usually), but the pressure (on the second floor) left a bit to be desired. It sure made a lot of noise and sounded like it was doing something though. I finally discovered - at the end of my shower - that if you turn off the main shower head and just use the handheld that you get better pressure. We opted for a handicap accessible room - expecting it to have a walk-in shower. It didn't. It was a tub with extra grab bars in and around it. That was disappointing. My husband sometimes has difficulty stepping up and over a bathtub. He managed okay that day though.
Breakfast was better than we expected. We opted for biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were slightly doughy but tasted good. The gravy was piping hot and tasted good. They also had scrambled eggs, sausage patties, make your own waffles, cereal, yogurt, and hard-boiled eggs. There may have been more choices, but once I saw biscuits and gravy, I didn't really pay attention to the other offerings. My husband liked that they offered milk. I liked that they offered almond milk, but it was the sweetened variety.
Overall, our stay was just okay. We likely wouldn't stay at that location...
Read moreCheck-in took awhile, even though I had done it online the night before. Just one person working the front desk and an older gentleman just getting a room right then. Very friendly, welcoming staff, though. ||When I reserve hotel rooms, I try to do it through the hotel's website directly as often as I can, and I always ask for "top floor, quiet room please". There are 3 floors at this hotel and we got room 216, which is right next to the elevator. So, not top floor, and not quiet. So for this visit, sleep quality was poor due to upstairs noise, but otherwise the bed and pillows were comfortable.||My main issue is the dogs. I get being dog friendly. I, too, own a dog. But I also recognize he wouldn't do well in a hotel. Well, the 3 dogs (at least) that were on our floor also didn't do well in hotels. At one point, all 3 were barking. At 7 AM. (They were in rooms 206, 214 & 215). One large poodle was across from our room and for some reason it's owner thought it was cool to stand there with the door open and her dog would bark at every person that walked by. I'm not an expert at dogs in hotels but don't they usually try to put dogs on the first floor so it's easier to get them outside? ||Breakfast: the coffee was empty at 6:50 and they didn't start serving breakfast until 7. I waited for her to go check it or someone else to mention to her that it was empty and finally told her around 7:15 that it was empty. I waited next to the coffee station to be first in line for it because a group of what seemed to be hikers, or other outdoorsy men had their huge thermal mugs they were wanting to refill (I believe they are the reason it was empty so quickly to begin with). Just a reminder: there are coffee makers in the rooms. The waffle maker wasn't working right and didn't really cook the waffle we tried to make. And their choice of TV programming was odd, considering Gallup has such a high crime rate: it was some sort of murder-mystery reality show. ||It's a nice, new, clean hotel, though, so that makes up for the inconsiderate people that appear to stay there. But make sure you don't have a dog allergy or a fear of dogs if...
Read moreThe air conditioner would not keep the room cool. I got up 3 times to turn it down and it would not stay on. The last time I turned it down I heard a clicking noise and then the room filled with a burnt smell. I turn off the air conditioner and waited to see if the smell would go away and it did not. I called the front desk and a person came up with a can of air freshener and sprayed the room and told me that there was not a maintenance person on site. I asked if we could move to another room and she said there were none available. I could not continue to stay in the room as my eyes and nose were burning and I was starting to get a head ache. We left the hotel a little after 4am. ||My card had already been charged for the room. I told the person at the desk that I was very unhappy with our stay and she said I would need to talk to the Front Desk Manager who would be in at 8:00am. We drove to Farmington, NM, and arrived about 2 hours later at the Holiday Inn Express. They were able to let us check in early. They were very accommodating and helpful. ||I called La Quinta to talk to the front desk manager after I slept for a few hours and she said that they checked out the air conditioner and it was working fine. She said they had cleaned the air conditioner the day before and may have gotten dust in it while cleaning. I explained what happened and that I was not happy with our stay. She said she would give me a $60 discount. I told her that I did not believe that was enough. |We had a miserable night and then had to drive to Farmington and thought we deserved better. She did not agree. I will not stay...
