My wife's family are members and have had there membership for years. We come here every year, going on 5 years now and we love every moment. The spots change every year, some spots are better then others. The beach is not far, easy to get to. You can't put easy up canopy's up until morning. So if you want a good spot on the beach, set it up early. You use to be able to leave the skeleton, but it has to be taken back every night now. Water shoes are a must. There are alot of rocks just off the shore. From the shore to the Bayou, only gets about 6 feet deep. Buy water shoes at Walmart in Evanston or Logan. Ace hardware is the only place in garden city that sells them and their $25 a pair. The store we normally go to is currently closed. Could be open next year. Every night, we go to la beaus for shakes. That's a must every night. UPDATE 7/19/21- just left here, all campsites have sewer now and more of the RV park is paved. They are adding in a 80 kid capacity playground. The only problem with some camp sites is room. Some camp sites are pull through, but once you pull in and set up, good luck hooking up your rig when it's time to leave. Your either hooking up at a 45 degree angle or 90 with barly any room to spare. They need to either rethink some spots or eliminate them all together. They are trying to make money by cramming all these RVs into this rv park that in my opinion, isn't made for such capacity ( YET) But could one day change, depending on what the new company does. It's rumored they bought more land by the light house and they will be adding in spots over there. I will update next year. UPDATE-JUNE 2023, still the same old campground. The water level is higher then it was last year. But unfortunately its put the water level and were you setup your chairs and canopies up right in a wet marsh. Grass and wet/ puddles of water. You have to setup on the nice sand which isnt far at all from the water. But just my opinion, for the amount of money people including my family pay to stay here, they need to bring there tractor down and level out/ eliminate the marsh. Make it all nice sand to setup on. The RV sites that dont have concrete pads to park on, are all still congested. sewer connections are on the wrong side for some sites. In time all this can be fixed. But it all depends on the new ownership. Dont let this discourage you from coming. We absolutely love this place, but having to pull through on a site, then when it comes time to leave, your having to talk with the campers in front of your trailer. Cause your truck wont fit now, to hookup and back out. all sites should be back in. No pull through. Great place though, but no...
Read moreWe have never stayed in an RV park where people walk, ride bikes and side-by-sides thru your RV site. There are rules that are handed out at check in. However, no one enforces the rules and people take advantage of it and do anything they want. These are basic camping etiquette rules, basic common sense courtesy rules that should be followed anywhere someone is camping. Sun Outdoors needs a full time security person to help enforce the rules so that everyone can enjoy their vacation and not have their trip ruined by inconsiderate fellow campers. This park is overcrowded with tight camping sites and turns into tent city on weekends and holidays. A separate tent area is needed to help control mass numbers of people who congregate in sites. There are so many cars parked in sites and along the roadways that it is difficult to get around the park. There is suppose to be a limit of 8 people per campsite but with all the tents the number of people far exceed that. Of courses, no one from Sun Outdoors does anything about it. People come in after 10:00 quiet time and set up their RV's including unloading their ATV's, from their toy haulers. Dogs are suppose to be on a leash at all times but are allowed to roam free, and kids and adults of all ages ride bikes as fast as possible around the campground being a danger to themselves and others. Of course, no one at Sun Outdoors does anything to stop it. The beach needs to be groomed daily and is always a mess. The grounds maintenance has improved this year. We were here in late June and the swimming pool and hot tub were still not available. Sun Outdoors is on Million dollar plus property that has potential. However, until they get their act together, we recommend looking elsewhere for a place to spend your time if you want to enjoy your vacation and feel safe. Over $100 a night for an RV site at this place is a disgrace. We have been coming here for years but things have changed for the worst over the past 6 years. We will look elsewhere for our Family Summer Bear Lake tradition in the future. There are plenty of other nice places to stay in the Bear Lake Area. Please don't waste your time and money...
Read moreWe were so excited to reserve a cabin here and were really looking forward to a relaxing weekend, cold beer, a campfire and toasted marshmallows. The website has very little information, in fact, there's only one photo of the cabins and it's of the beds. (Our fault for continuing with the reservation at that point.) After making the reservation, we came to find out that the cabin does not have a campfire ring, nor grill, and inside the cabin is only a microwave. You have no means of preparing food so if you plan to rent a cabin, budget to dine out your entire trip or live off of PB&Js. So disappointed in the accommodations. Once we arrived, the disappointment lingered. The cabins are very close to one another, teeny "yard", no room for games or camping fun. There are a couple chairs on the porch, but they're very uncomfortable and the view isn't worth killing yourself over. The website boasted "Lake view" under cabin amenities, there was no lake view. I still held hope that we could salvage the stay with the fireplace they said was in the cabins. I was so looking forward to that. Nope. There is NO fireplace.
The cabin is very crowded. 2 queen beds, a table and two chairs. That's all the furniture in the cabin, but the pieces are so bulky for the space that two people can't move around in there at the same time, let alone 4. As my husband said, "Only one person off the bed at a time.". We used the second bed for all our bags. I honestly can't imagine how that space would work for 4 people.
We explored the town and checked things out. It's a cute town with very friendly people, but it's also a heavily commercialized resort town. This isn't a camping getaway, it's a resort town so plan ahead and budget to spend a lot.
It's 8:30 pm (and our anniversary) and we are bored out of our minds sitting at this cabin. The entire campground is dead quiet. Great for young families, retired folks or really mellow people. (We're none of those!) You're literally paying for a place to sleep, poop and shower. If Bear Lake is your thing, check out the other campgrounds in the area. There are several and they have campfires!...
