Update: we came through for a second time, they had plenty of rooms available. Although the room we stayed in wasn't near as nice as the last one it was still super clean, some updating would go a long way. Dinner and dessert was awesome, the staff was pleasant and friendly. Tables were closed this time which stinks but not a big deal we played the slots won some. While sitting at the bar smoking and actively drinking an extremely rude person interjects herself into the conversation to tell me that I need to have my mask on and lift it to smoke or drink from my straw. Mind you I was talking with the bar tender at the time. I stated very baffled as she isn't in a uniform and has a purse in hand, plus her extremely rude approach was off putting. The bartender went to the other end away from her while her nonsense continued with me being more confused. I'm seated drinking and smoking, chatting away having a relaxing evening. Now I checked and it's neither state mandated or a posted policy. Well this very rude person happens to be a waitress. This isn't the first time Stephanie (short, older, greying woman) had been rude and snappy for no reason. I left her out of my last review since she didn't seem hell bent on being a B . Well she didn't just stop a conversation once she did this twice. I have issues following guidelines, not the issue, I take issue with lack of interpersonal skills. I don't care if your at the end of your shift and cranky, do not come at guests sideways. Had it been a "hey there is a new policy in place" and then list that policy in a tone that wasn't horrid and rude cool.
Original (5 stars): Amazing doesn't even describe it. Best Western had one room left when we pulled in and online said this was fully booked but we called and they had a room, which came out to nearly $100 less than the best Western. Dinner was great in the cafe, slots and small tables made for a fun evening goofing around. The view was just gorgeous. All of the staff was very nice and there wasn't a single issue. Breakfast also didn't disappoint in the morning either. All those 1 star reviews are wrong, I will be returning with my family again...
Read moreI was looking for a place to have a meeting and breakfast at the same time. I called ahead to see if the dining facility had plugins for a couple of laptops. I was assured there was, so a plan was set in motion... ...I would have given 2 stars, however, because of no other reason than these listed below, the bar had been risen exponentially: Upon arrival, the lodge is well manicured, lots of parking and a beautiful view of the lake from the dining area. The staff, although confused at first why anyone would do a meeting and breakfast, was accommodating to the best of his ability, even though there was zero plugins available, et all. The waitress was impeccable at her job requirement and more, yes, she was the bag of chips and all that! The food, I ordered my favorite dish at any place I eat for breakfast, biscuits and gravy with scrambled or fried eggs, depending in my mood at the time, I felt scrambled. The food arrived hot, not disgusting luke room under a heat lamp 3 minutes ago done. And the second best tasting biscuits and gravy dish I have had, very well prepared and full of the expected taste. Didn't have to add salt, nor pepper. However, being a hot sauce fanatic of Tabasco, well, lets just say "loved the biscuits and Gravy"!
Conclusion: I didn't hit the gambling floor, I gamble enough with my life everyday, so casino gambling is a bit of a bore. On the Other hand, should your adventure head towards Lake Topaz, Dine at the Tavern, you'll be pleasantly surprised by it all.
Oh, you've been wondering who has the best biscuits and gravy ever and to this day? My mother, the one who got me addicted to the biscuits and gravy since 12 years of age!
As for the Tabasco addition, Thanks Dad, you're always in my heart!
Wait, You're still here? The review is over, now go eat, you know...
Read moreIf you come to topaz lodge just for the breakfast, you will not be disappointed. I have the chicken fried steak meal, which was hand breaded and hand fried. Eggs were perfectly cooked in the hashbrowns were crispy and delicious. To top it off the gravy just absolutely made it.... It was the best chicken fried steak I've ever had in my life. Heck even the right butter toast I had was good. I don't even know how you make excellent toast but they did. And that's just the food.
I checked in to the hotel super late at night and despite the hours I was warmly welcome. They are generous with the drinks and the staff are beyond courteous, professional, and very accommodating. By the next morning half the staff already new my name and went above and beyond to help me if I needed anything. The rooms were clean and the Decour had a rustic feel, which I absolutely love because it added to the nostalgia of the place. The view from my room was absolutely amazing. I checked into a smoking room and I was surprised to notice that the room had no lean green cigarette smell which it was definitely a plus as well. Checking in and checking out was easy, and the front desk staff were very attentive and quick. I wasn't planning on staying an extra night but I did just because I like this place so much. I would highly recommend this place to anybody traveling the 395...
Also, Shout out to the bartender Taj (I hope I spelled her name right), she was awesome and super...
