So I wanted to like this place based on the reviews, but the best word I can come up with to describe it is adequate. I originally reserved a "cabin", which turned out to be the tiniest room and tiniest bathroom I've ever seen for a hotel. It is also just one of two rooms rentable in a separate tiny "cabin" off the main motel. This is a motel and those are not cabins. The bed also looked smaller yet still managed to take up much of the small room. It also smelled like mildew. So I went back to the front desk and inquired about the sizes of the bed and room and explained how much smaller they were and not what we expected based on the website, especially for the $109 (plus tax) price tag. The man at the desk seemed to get less pleasant with me and almost begrudgingly showed me a different room and mumbled something about my "generation". He gave us a larger room, which I accepted and appreciated. This room also smelled of mildew, but we needed a place to stay so this was it. There were spiders and spider webs throughout the room and dead gnats on the sink counter right next to the coffee cups. The shower took a good 5 minutes or so to even get up to a slightly warm temp and then suddenly got scalding. Water pressure was good though, but bottom of the tub had seen better days and was stained a brown color. The towels were very soft, but at the same time a little mildewy as I feel they may have been sitting a while. The beds were very soft and cozy and appeared clean upon inspection. Everything in the room looked dated and as though it was in need of repair, with the exception of the bed which looked newer and stamped with the Adoba logo. The spa (read two hot tubs) was originally down for cleaning, but when I seemed disappointed the man at the reception desk said he would turn them back on and have them ready for us by 6:30 that evening. We did use the hot tubs and they were quite relaxing although I did need to get towels ahead of time as when I checked before we used the facility there was only one towel. They do have a fitness area in the same room as the hot tubs with a bike, elliptical, treadmill and some weights. We didn't use the fitness area so I can't speak to the functionality of the equipment. The wifi was very hit or miss and only half the time did our devices connect and you had to stand in a very specific spot. Once connected (if you are so lucky), the Internet is about the average for hotels as far as speed. We were told that breakfast hours were only between 8-10am in the main house. That is very late...
Read moreThis is my second time staying at this lodging facility and I can provide nothing short but a rave review.
Let's start with the basics: Dislikes and Likes.
Likes: Clean, comfortable, and cozy rooms. Hot water and good water pressure. Rustic/cabin-like feel, but still close enough to the lake and the town area. Comfortable beds Satellite TV and high-speed internet Hot breakfast Excellent customer service - Willing to answer all questions, allow late check-in, and provide recommendations for things to do in the area, near and far. Reasonable rates
Dislikes: None, actually. It would be nice to have a refrigerator and microwave in the rooms, but it is not a deal-breaker for me. They have space at the house for items if needed.
Things about Naubinway: The town is similar to a coastal Michigan town - Most businesses close early. The town is rather small, but has enough for what you need. St. Ignace and Manistique are about 45 minutes away if you need more items or prefer less isolation. The area can be clear at times, but also foggy given its proximity to the lake. Sunrises are beautiful from US-2. Sunsets are also beautiful, but you might need to travel about 15 miles west to catch one.
Overall comments: Leslie is great! She has always helped me out and made sure my stay(s) have been excellent. The hotel has a rustic feel to it for the most part - If you are looking for a standardized (chain hotel) room, it is best to go to St. Ignace or Manistique. Be prepared to pay more for chain hotel rooms though, with less family-style feel. You're in Da Yoop (The UP) - There will be bugs, so be prepared if some sneak into your room when you open the door. Jim and his wife always make sure you are satisfied at breakfast, even taking your plates when you are finished if they are not busy assisting other guests or refilling breakfast items.
I will happily support this family-owned business and recommend this lodging facility to anyone who will be in the area. Will I stay...
Read moreThe reservation we made was easy, the text with our information was easy, asking to stay another night was easy as they had the availability. We had a glitch, we were just getting acclimated to the room being we unpacked and had just gotten a pizza and were watching a movie when the bed collapsed! Omg! Now what do we do? We did text and called. Our second call was answered and we explained how the bed collapsed. we were switched to a different room. My shower was warm, but I know it's an older building, my s.o.'s shower was hot so maybe it just took a while or everyone was showering at the same time as me? The tub wasn't draining so I had to hold my foot on it to drain...lol we had 2 goofy experiences that never happened before but it made it memorable and I have been smiling and laughing about it. The rooms were both very clean. Nice fluffy thick towels. The room warmed up quickly. We were bummed no little fridge to put food and drinks in, we did have a mic. We didn't use the coffee maker. We went up for snowmobiling. We had many fellow neighbors who were there as well for the sport. Only complaint not the owners fault, but some idiot fellow snowmobiler, at 1am he and his wife decided to wake us up with his sled at our door. Literally. He was stuck and revving it and trying to put it on the sidewalk at our door....go look at room 18 you will see the rubber marks he left behind from his track...he was almost through our door, our room smelled from the exhaust for a long time after. It freaked us out and my s.o. went running to the door in his underwear asking him wth he is doing? Other than that, we would return again. We did enjoy our stay. We missed the museum this trip which is right across the street. We've visited there in the past. And I wanted to go but I think that they were closed. :) thank you for...
