Just stayed here with friends overnight on a quick visit to Lewis Ginter Gardens. Was looking for a quiet setting, outside of the city with gardens and outside space to relax. They are in front of a big road and we could hear traffic all the time when sitting outside. The Inn is located I’ll say within 400 feet of the main rail road tracks crossing and I mean the one Amtrak uses. Nothing like sitting in the garden and within an hour hear no less than 3 trains’ loud whistles multiple times for each train because the intersection is literally at their back yard. All day and at night. We had to get ear plugs. It takes all the tranquility of the very nice grounds away.
The room was clean the bed comfortable. Nice to have had a place to sit to put on makeup. You expect this when you pay high prices.
Breakfast is served at 8:30 for everyone which I did not like. Flexibility when traveling is good. Don’t want to eat when it’s convenient for them but when it’s convenient for us. And everyone sits on a long table of 12, not in smaller tables. Being with friends we’d have preferred not to be in a huge table if 12 like that. Finally, breakfast was served family style meaning the food gets put on the table, now go ask people to pass things down. And while this is easier on them not requiring any servers it’s not the experience we go for at a Bed and Breakfast. We stay at B&B’s for the personal touch while this was more like a hotel approach to breakfast. Also the menu was set and that’s what you got. It was a frittata, bacon, scones, jellies etc and scant (very few) grapes for fruit. Not much ingenuity or quality in the breakfast. No cereals. I emailed to ask what breakfast is the day before because there’s only a scant vague sentence and no real photo of it on the website but no one replied yet they did know our arrival time in the same message. I almost felt they downplay it for a reason. Yet this is a bed and BREAKFAST. When evaluating an experience we consider the price we paid for one night, nearly $300. Overall fell short in...
Read moreVirginia Cliffe Inn made our wedding very special by providing a beautiful space for it to take place. When we first toured the Inn we were very pleased with the affordable price, the space, and that there was lodging available for the night of our wedding. Although we were very pleased with the space provided, there were some things that left us feeling unsatisfied. Getting closer to our wedding we noticed that communication was getting a lot more complicated with the staff at the inn. We found it very hard to get questions answered and make payments outside of our work hours. I just want to point out that every single thing cost something. We noticed that less than 30 days out from our wedding that we would have to add time to get to the venue before 3pm for a 4:30 wedding, we had to pay to leave some of our decor and wedding party attire at the venue the night of the rehearsal, and we had to pay for our vendors to come back the next day to pick up the rental items. We felt that the affordable price that it seemed to be was beginning to compare to the cost of a lot of other local venues that we turned away from to save money.
On the day of the wedding, after paying the extra costs for everything, we were not given access to the room connected to the bridal suite that we had paid for beforehand so that we could have access when we arrived. It took a few people to figure it out before they were willing to open the door for us. I believe this had to do with the fact that it was so hard to communicate with them efficiently. I often felt like I was misunderstood when communicating with them.
This venue was beautiful and our first glimpse of it was absolutely perfect. It would definitely serve as a great venue to anybody, but I hope this gives some insight on what it may be like once...
Read moreWe got married at the Virginia Cliffe Inn over the weekend, and it was the perfect day. The venue is beautiful, and everything was set up exactly how we asked for it to be. We also loved the coordinator that the Inn assigned us, Rachael with Riverwood Events and Catering.
However, we cannot give this venue five starts for a couple of reasons:
Renting out this venue for an 8-hour wedding is already expensive, and absolutely everything is an additional charge. We had to pay for the dance floor, the arbor, two extra hours so we had time to set up and break down, and an extra hour after the rehearsal so we could drop things off for the next day. These aren't "hidden fees"; we knew exactly what everything would cost when we signed the contract, but it still seems like they take advantage of the fact that it's your wedding day and a few extra costs won't hurt.
They do not let you know whether or not you can use the venue for your rehearsal until a month beforehand because they are waiting to see if someone else will rent it out for another event.
We had an amazing day, and we are very happy with the venue itself along with its staff, but we were just disappointed that they seemed to care more about our money than us.
This seems like a negative review, but it truly was a beautiful venue and the staff/coordinator made it the perfect day. If we had to do it all over, we would still get...
