Probably the most disappointed and disgusted I've been in a while. We have been visiting Prospect Mountain Campground for the past 5 years, building relationships and creating core memories with our children. This year was a different story. It was the first year the family campground we have learned to love, sold to a Corporation (Blue Water Hospitality). They were constantly short staffed and many of the activities listed on their website changed last minute. The second day of our stay on July 16th (Pirate Weekend), my daughter came running out of Cabin #6 in fear. She explained there were 100's of tiny bugs on her the acreen of her Amazon Fire Tablet. When I entered her room, I found an infestation of either fleas or bed bugs on everything in the room. Books, jewelry, pillows, fans, stuffed animals...you name it. Sure enough, after a closer inspection...the bugs were all over the cabin. When I called the office to notify them of the situation, they sent a maintenance staff member to my cabin to inspect. The only thing he did was took a photo of the bugs and reported back to the office. Next the assistant manager showed up, and apologized for the inconvenience. She provided black garbage bags to gather all of our belongings and explained there was nothing available to accommodate a stay. So as my wife and I bagged everything into black garbage bags, my three children sat at picnic table confused and devastated as to why we had to leave two nights early. I made 4 trips to the front office to grab garbage bags for our belongings that afternoon. In the meantime, my kids remained at the picnic table outside the cabin, listening to the hayride pass by...that they weren't able to ride on. As I checked out, I was greeted at the counter by the new General Manager Chris. She was helping with nightly Bingo. When I introduced myself, she apologized for the inconvenience after "hearing about our issue." That was what bothered me the most I think. The fact that the new GM new about what occurred, and not once visited the site to check on my family. Not once did she offer staff to assist with packing up my car or taking down garbage. You would think, if a campground was never properly sanitized or inspected, and was the root cause of a disaterous situation leading to the early end of a family vacation...they would at least offer a full refund and an to take care of my dry cleaning bill...something other then just an apology. Not this campground. GM Chris explained, a refund would be issued for the nights we weren't able to stay during the remainder of the weekend, but not to expect it immeditaley because they were in transition from a family run campground to a Corporation. In the meantime, my car was loaded up with 20 black garage bags and 3 tramaurized children thinking they had bugs still crawling on them. This will be the last time we visit Prospect Mountain. Horrible...
Read moreWe were happy to find this place four years ago. We started off with a weekend here and there, then did their spring and fall fling packages. We became seasonals last year. It was family owned. The owner could be seen riding around and greeting and helping campers. He knew just about everyone's names that frequented the campground. They had themed weekend activities for children as well as families. The employees were always happy and helpful. Even during the pandemic, they seemed to have a handle on managing the campground through it. Flash forward to this year. The campground was bought out by a corporation. We immediately felt the difference. We noticed the themed activities were not the same, if any at all. Some of the employees left. They hired a guy that is a seasonal up the hill from us to become a "park ranger"?? Who rides around in his golf cart drinking and picking up drinking buddies to ride around with?? Scary, right? Then came time to renew contracts, which was usually in August. August came and went... crickets. Sept came and went... crickets. October, just a week and a half before the season ended, they sent around the contracts for 2023. Holy price increase! 50% for our site! The increased all sites to be the same cost (as opposed to the sites being priced by their size, location, hook-ups, etc.). So we would be paying the same prices as sites that are three times the size of ours and include all hook-ups (we had electric and water, no sewer). We can't fit any cars on our site when you are allowed to have two. It doesn't make sense to price all the sites at the same rate. They dressed up the increase by stating that electricity, pumpouts and now a resort fee would be included. Since we were only there on the weekends, our expense for both were minimal, so it wouldn't make sense for us. I understand that those with much larger sites are only seeing a minimal increase in comparison, and those who are there more frequently will benefit from electricity being included. If it makes sense for them, fine. However, many of us were basically pushed out. They are now charging a resort fee, even though the campground and amenities are anything but. Very disappointed with the drastic change and price increase. We pulled out this year and likely won't be returning. They have even increased the prices on daily stays on their transient sites. FInd another family owned campground, there are a few left with great reviews. This one is now a...
Read moreMy family had this trip planned since february. When we arrived, we realized the campground was not as advertised. To mention a few things, the campsites were smaller than pictured online with little privacy. The bathrooms were completely filthy. Online, the bathrooms were advertised as modern, which they were far from. They are in serious need of updating and repair. The bathrooms are only cleaned between 10am and 11am each day, and "spot checked/ sweeped" periodically throught the day. On top of that the pool was shutdown for the duration of our stay because of "sudden case of allege" not quite sure how this was allowed to happen. If you properly maintain a pool, it does not get sudden cases of allege... but we decided to let it go so we could enjoy our 4th of july trip with our family we were so looking forward to all year. Then on our second night of our three night stay, my pregnant wife and I were walking our 3 small dogs along the campground roads. When one of them was attacked by another campers 100lb dog. The dog had broken its soft pull leash (shocker), it had not collar and no harness. It grabbed our little dog off the ground by its belly and was trying to shake. I was walking a head of my wife when I heard her scream and got there just in time. After what seemed like forever I was able to open the dogs mouth to release my dog... when we went and brought this to the staffs attention they seemed to care more about not making a scene then the well being of our dog. They offered no assistance or guidance, other than a list of the closest emergency vets. Which we brought him to and he stayed overnight after having a drain put in and several stitches. The staff seemed annoyed/bothered more than anything. I will say the manager reached out to us that next morning to check our dog which was nice... But we had to do some arguing in order to ge a refund for our stay. The next morning we retrieved our dog, packed up and left. Needles to say we do not recommend this campground and will not being...
