We stayed at the Hugh cabin around the middle of September. We usually stay at promised land campground so are familiar with the area and decided to stay last minute the morning of check in for one night. We enjoyed the proximity of the rex to the park and other things such as i84. We found a great restaurant called hunter valley and brought food back to the fridge. Fridge and dishwasher were good and many plates and utensils etc. Everything was clean, which is so important. They gave some trail mix and coffee from black and brass which we liked. When booking online there was a flaw and I contacted the owners and she quickly responded and made the reservation over the phone. The cabin was extremely clean and spacious. The place is very modern and totally different from traditional cabins and the theme is black and yellow so keep that in mind if you are looking for something more rustic. They definitely put a lot of work into it. They have corn hole. Parking is limited but ok when not many people. We liked how everything was Contactless and they text you instructions for everything as well as check out. The linens were very fresh. We enjoyed the full kitchen. We really liked the couch and sliding door. The tv did not buffer at all. The place was very quiet. There is a small store that u can access with your pass code and you can make a reservation for the sauna enjoyed the sauna looking toward the woods. There were only a few guests so it was easy to get in. They have recycling and garbage dumpster which we appreciated. There is a trail that leads right from the rex. We enjoyed the roku on the tv. If you can't go camping this is the next best thing. We liked the private back yard and the wood and matches available. Also very close to 84. The owners send a text with their favorite places to eat or go which was nice. The only things we didn't like was the pin system to enter was very difficult to use and gave us trouble. The bed was nice but too big for the room and had barely any walking space. Also had no closet in the bedroom. Bathroom was very small. We didn't care for how black the bathroom was but that's just us. We didn't like that that the lights stayed on in the backyard which was kind of annoying when we wanted to use the hot tub or firepit. Sliding door did not work smoothy. The firepit was easy to use and not messy at all. Last thing was the hot tub was very clean but kind of small for 2 people and we are not big by any means. It was difficult to keep the water from spilling over. It does not bubble it's just hot but was enjoyable. The grill was large but didn't have time to use it. The front door was. It very secure and could see through the cracks. We would come...
Read moreStayed in Rae cabin for weekend. Pricey but truth is I loved the cabin. Would like to stay again. If i could have a cabin of my own it would be just like this one. Design is spectacular. High end kitchen. Loved the gas fireplace , sliding glass doors to deck, floor to ceiling windows in bedroom and bathroom floors. Location is great although neighborhood impoverished. Amazing view from master into promised land state park. I appreciated the reverse osmosis filtered water and the loft lighting. Promised land inn had great food! Best of all dog friendly…hooray Here are my concerns-some bigger than others and I will explain for the sake of fairness
Service (invisible is accurate) Attention to detail Dont make the mistake we made by choosing the high end cabin because of the hot tub
So here it is… i like the concept of invisible service but when something isnt working you are on your own. Hot tub cold from the start. We were told give it four hours to heat. Four hours later still cold. We were then told remove heavy mirror from wall to access circuit box and flip fuse. We spent remainder of trip needing to reflip fuse. Power went out ( not hotels fault) but still meant we paid for hot tub we couldnt use. Got in it once on second day after carrying mirror and flipping fuses and waiting hours for it to heat. Btw you cannot adjust temp on hot tub. No jets on hot tub. Attention to detail that you expect at this price point would be that tub would have been set prior to arrival. In fairness compensation offered but was unacceptable. Offered $50 credit at their store! Didnt care for $50 of ice cream and tee shirts ooofff. Additional example of attention to detail: one bathroom light bulb mostly burned out and second one flickering made bathroom feel creepy.
Suggestions: cabin is spacious but really dont need the office space. Sofa wonky-light weight so scoots across floor every time you sit plus double wide so hard to sit back. Wish there was a tv in bedroom.
Loved the cabin and beautiful view. Wish someone paid better attention to service and functionality. When you are paying for high end you dont expect to flip...
Read moreMy wife and I booked the Hugh's cabin for a quick weekend getaway. We came during a weekend where the temperatures dropped below zero - cold even for Poconos standards. Upon check-in, we found that our pipes had completely frozen and that we had no running water. There was only one other room available - believe it was the Hemlock - so we had to move rooms. While moving rooms wasn't necessarily an issue, I couldn't help but think what a disaster it would have been if we had our child with us or friends; we literally wouldn't have had a place to stay.
The Hemlock itself was fine, but I've got to say... that room was not prepared for the frigid temps we had that night which went well below zero. There was non-existent water pressure in the shower. Further, the room could not adequately heat itself with the single split unit and space heater. We literally had to wear sweaters and hats in bed and even then, we froze. Trust me, I get it, we were dealing with extremely cold temperatures. But if you operate a hotel, you need to be prepared for that and ensure that the rooms can be adequately heated. And if they can't, ensure that there are extra blankets / comforters. This is where "silent service" falls apart since there is no one to really go to in the middle of the night.
We then woke up the next morning and sure enough, the pipes froze in our new unit as well. We went out for the day and fully expected to just check-out and end the weekend early but it turned out that the maintenance folks were able to get the Hugh's cabin back up and running. We decided to stay and ultimately had a great night. It was comfortable, well heated, and spacious.
Brian the owner was responsive and made it right. We only paid for the one night in the Hugh's but we came away from the weekend feeling the opposite of relaxed. The stress of having to deal with that situation and being uncomfortable in what is supposed to be a semi-luxurious hotel, didn't feel great.
We may ultimately come back with our child since the location is great and I think the Hugh's cabin is perfect for a family, but until then, I felt compelled to write...
