Winton Wood Campground was outlet 194th stop and stayed for 5 nights. If coming from I-275, follow the directions provided by the park or Apple Maps. Google maps and RV Life will send you on a route with extra/unnecessary turns. As a county park, they have done an excellent job with the reservation system, check in and the park itself. Very pleasant staff at check in and when having an issue with the front gate, 2 employees immediately stepped in to help get the coach through. The office/camp store is nice and has quite a bit of merchandise. The campground itself is excellent. All paved interior roads, gated entry, easy access to park walking trails, nice bathhouse at the front of the park, level sites, well-placed utilities and slab patios for some sites. They have recycling, keep the grounds well-maintained, numerous new trees planted and have a number of potable water/dump stations if needed. If you are in the front of the park and it is hot, there is limited shade. Although it looks like you are on the lake, there are only a few places where you can actually see the lake from the campground. If you have dogs or just need to walk, there is an excellent paved trail around the lake with a little shade that starts near the office parking lot (1.8 miles). And close proximity to the river front (30 minutes). All in all, I would rate this park a 4.6 out of 5. Connectivity (3 pm): T-Mobile 1,188 down/33.8 up; Verizon 34.4 down 0.34 up - but very spotty with many down times or long buffering, especially during peak times; 45 OTA channels

We've stayed at this Great Parks campground a couple of times when visiting Cincinnati, and always have a great experience. This county park is well maintained and central to just about everything in the Tri-state area. The campground entrance is gated so you can access 24 hours. This visit, a portion of the park was off limits due to an eagle's nest. Although we did not spot the nest, we saw the pair of eagles flying over the park/lake each day of our stay. There are many hiking trails, including a wonderful paved trail that circles the lake. Bike and boat rentals are available at the marina and there are several play areas for the kiddos. Our site had full hook-ups, but there are also electriic only options as well as cabins and tent sites. The camp office had a large selection of products including souvenirs, rv supplies, firewood, ice, and hand scooped ice cream. Staff was friendly and informative. Each site had a picnic table and a nice fire ring. The campground seemed to be at full capacity on the weekend nights but was pleasantly spaced during the week. It felt like we were close to everything-- downtown, Kings Island, East end, Colerain Twp, etc. and not far from groceries, dining and many breweries. Make reservations early, this place is popular with the locals!

We stayed in a basic cabin for two nights. It was very clean and most importantly, close to the bathroom/shower building! The cabin has heat/air conditioning. The bathrooms/showers were nicely kept and cleaned 3 times a day. It rained one of the nights and there was standing water in the fire pit and along where we would walk the most at our cabin. We decided to take a drive around to explore other parts of the park and by the time we got back to the cabin, park maintenance had put a bale of straw down over the standing water areas so we wouldn't have a ton of mud without us mentioning it to anyone. Staff were all very pleasant and the camp store was well stocked with odds and ends you might have forgotten. Prices were fair. If you need a little something more but don't want to drive too far, there is also a Dollar General right up the street off Winton Rd that appears to stock more stuff to cater to the camping crowd (lots of bags of charcoal in November right as you enter the store). Great experience for the kids and their first time camping but still not too rustic. I'd recommend a foam mattress topper for the bunks that adults are sleeping on. The kids didn't mind it but after the first night of sleeping, the adults needed a little extra cushion.

We spent 10 nights here in July while visiting relatives in the nearby area. The sites are spacious and most have shade, but not all of them. A plus is they are very pet friendly. The biggest issues we found here was that the campground is located on a lake but VERY few sites actually have a decent view of the lake. Many sites are adjacent to the water but trees/bushes/weeds have been allowed to grow so high that a view of the water is practically non-existent on most site. That is sad considering how it could be with just a little pruning/cutting and upkeep. Also, the park is WAY too large for just one bathroom/shower facility. The campsites at the far end are a fairly long walk to the showers. Portable potties are provided at that end but in the heat of the summer the walk for a shower leaves you hot and sweaty again by the time you shower and then walk back to your campsite :(. Another smaller facility at the far end near the playground and picnic shelter would be very helpful! The bathrooms/showers that are there are very poorly ventilated and gave no ability to adjust the temperature of the water. Showers operated by a pushbutton mechanism that could not be turned up down, on or off...came on for a preset amount of time at a preset temperature. Also, no hooks in the private changing areas. Ridiculous set up! I used the family/handicap facility for more space and usability due to these issues. There is a reasonably priced laundry facility but it is small with stackable machines & absolutely nowhere to hang anything and no table/counter for sitting anything or folding laundered clothes as you remove them from the dryer. We felt the nightly fee for a site w/only electric (no water or sewer hookups) was a bit high considering the above issues & that there is not really much in the local area of interest other than the nearby Winton Woods park. There is fishing and a launch for canoes/kayaks at the campground but no swimming area...you must go to the Park for swimming which is about a mile away. The campground is at least a 30-40 minute drive to anything in the Cincinnati area and over an hour drive to the Ark Encounter or Creation Museum. Not much else around of interest. Not a place I would recommend unless you have a specific reason, as we did, for needing to be in this particular area. There is free internet and it operated fairly well. Not highly recommended and definitely would be better during the...

I actually stayed here in May 2016, I'm just getting around to writing a review now.

This is a really nice campground in a nice area, I only gave 4 stars due to the fact that they let a group of five tents occupy the space next to me and the campers totally impeded on my space. I have a small trailer, just 18', and it seems like because my trailer doesn't take up a lot of space, people are always getting really close to me and using space which isn't theirs. If I had a bigger camper my camper would have been in the space where their tents were set up. As it happened, when I looked out my back window, there were 2 tents. When 3 more arrived, I spoke up as they were about to set up and told them to move more to the right. I wasn't mean but I told them that I felt like they were too close to me. They apologized and complied, but there's no way 5 tents should be allowed on a site. I probably should have made an official complaint to a manager, but I just didn't want to deal with being a bad neighbor and ruining someone else's weekend.

They stayed up until all hours and I had to sleep with ear plugs. They weren't rowdy, but when someone is right outside your window talking, you hear them and it's enough to keep you awake.

Okay, other than that. It's a lovely campground and looked like a ton to do. I didn't stay there much. I was staying there for a dog show and left at 6:30 each morning and returned late afternoon. I walked around though and there were a lot of different activities, a lovely stream, and river and spots to camp along those. There were big playground areas.

Although the spots are next to one another without much space between, there was a big grassy area behind my site and a clump of woods that separated it from the loop behind. Also, the spot I chose didn't have anyone directly in front of me, just a view of the river.

I did not see any off leash dogs, that's always a plus for me.

There's a nearby park for boat rentals and other activities too.

I picked out a spot I liked near the river and if I'm ever in the area again I'd definitely stay here and choose the spot I picked out if...
