we just arrived here a few hours ago and it’s already sickening. the whole hotel has an old musty odor and lingering moldy smell. the bathroom ceiling has ridiculous amounts of water damage and there is mold on the i stead’s of the shower curtains. thw bathtub floor seems like a layer was scraped up and stained and scratchy on my feet. the workout room only has coconut cleaning wipes which i am allergic to and the floor and equipment is stained. there are only four machines (no weight rack or yoga mats) and two of them are broken. the hot tub is broken and the pool room has a door wide open to outside that is stuck open likely to air out the wretched amount of chlorine in the water. when we came up to one of the rooms the microwave and tv were unplugged, only discovered when going to unplug and restart the tv because it wasn’t turning on. once it was plugged in it still didn’t work. called a staff member to help restart it and joked we should have done it ourself since they made it seem so simple to which they aggressively responded that we SHOULD have just done it ourself to save them the trip upstairs. they explained that the cleaning staff unplugs things for some reason to which we were confused why they don’t plug them back in after. the front desk was rude and annoyed and we watched them act the same way to tons of other guests before and after us. there appears to be a problem with theft based on the sign in the bathroom about charging guests for stealing items out of the room, sarcastically framing it as though the items are for sale as if the guests are a joke. the window screen behind the glass is ripped open and there are flies in the room. the walls are all incredibly thin, you can hear people in the others rooms, hallway and above and below. when we went to breakfast another guest opened a grape juice and showed a staff member that there was mold inside what should have been a sealed container and they helped him find another one without it, only to rip the rest out of the fridge as if the guest wasn’t drinking one of them. I had just drank one and another guest commented that they had found one yesterday with a dime sized piece of mold floating at the top of the grape juice, not an isolated incident. looks nothing like the pictures. unbelievable and cannot...
Read moreWell, this was disappointing. We realize there's not a lot to choose from in Grinnell. I've previously stayed (twice) at the Best Western, which I noticed is now an AmericInn; it was very shabby, though maybe AmericInn has spent some money to upgrade it (the OUTside looked better anyway). I'd heard that the Comfort Inn was better than the Country Inn/Suites, the (former) Best Western, the Quality Inn, or the Super 8 (in that order), but that may not be saying much.||So, here's our stay... (1) No luggage rack. We asked for one. She told us she'd get one for us. Never showed up. We checked again at the front desk. Were told "she didn't leave one & I don't know where they are." Stayed 3 nights & one never appeared.; (2) There was absolutely no attempt at housekeeping of any sort for 3 days, even though we told the front desk when we returned on our 2nd day.; (3) Toilet seat was cracked & completely broke the first time we used it. Fortunately, they DID come & replace it, but managed to leave a screwdriver, a dirty towel, and muddy footprints in the bathroom.; (4) There wasn't enough parking. We came back at 11 p.m. two nights and had to "create our own" parking spot on the grass.; (5) Air conditioning had trouble keeping up with Iowa summer, so sleep was difficult to come by.; (6) A 7:00 a.m. fire alarm went off on our last day there. Clearly, they had installed an "OUTside volume" alarm on the INside of our room 'cause the thing was so incredibly loud that we had to stuff Kleenex in our ears just to get dressed and go outside. It took over a week for my hearing to return to anything close to normal and it may still be damaged.; and (7) The breakfast was cold, stale, and pretty unappetizing. Don't plan on eating at the hotel.||I'll try the Country Inn next time I'm in Grinnell. The Hotel Grinnell in town may be the better bet nearby; too bad it's ridiculously overpriced for small-town Iowa. Otherwise, have a nice stay in...
Read moreFantastic!!!! We were traveling through Demoine Iowa, and we were unable to find a Hotel vacancy due to a fair and some races being in town. As we drove on, I searched Hotels ahead of us. I called the Comfort Inn, in Grinnelle. I lucked out, and they had ONE room left with a King size bed, and a pull-out sofa. It was perfect for the five of us. It was the most reasonable price we had paid for lodging during our entire trip. At the front desk was a young gentleman, who we found to be very friendly, professional and efficient. He wanted us to be sure and let him know if there was any problems with the room or if we had any needs. But it was perfect. The shower this morning was wonderful, with nice fluffy big towels! And to top it all off, breakfast was terrific. We went down at 8:25, and it appeared that we were too late as the bacon and eggs were all gone. I thought, "our bad, we should have been here sooner.". There was still cereal, hard-boiled eggs, toast, waffles etc. But then Ritu came through the door with a fresh, hot batch of scrambled eggs! And then she followed it up with a pan of fresh bacon. After that Ritu and Jesssica made trip after trip, keeping the pans full right up until 9:00 a.m. They did not put breakfast away until they had asked the stragglers, if we needed anything else. Overall, our family was very pleased with our stay. This a a wonderful Comfort Inn! Thank you all for making it a great experience. Our day is off to a great start,...
