I have been camping here around seven years. The owners are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable of the area. This is a family ran campground. Week days are the best time to camp as it’s not as busy as weekends. But do to Covid and several campgrounds around the area closed to tent camping Schoolhouse is significantly busier than normal years. And yes Chris does his best to return every phone call he gets. But with the phone constantly ringing it’s hard for him to return every phone call. Chris does not book online do to the more old school style. When you call it’s best to leave information such as the dates of when you are checking in and out. What time you plan on showing up and checkout date. Give as much details with out going over board. And as the recording says please try your best to answer your phone when Chris calls you back. But he does do his best to return every single phone call. Now with that said there is two main sections. One is for family and kids and the other section is adults only. Yes, you can camp as an adult in the family section. Yes it is more noisy than the adult section. Also you can hear the vehicle noise more in the family section. The adult section vehicle noise wise is a lot quieter. There are showers and running toilets. The bathrooms are cleaned several times a day. Always smells good. Toilets you would find in your everyday home. The showers are a quarter per minute. You can go to the river on a private beach. So that is a major plus. The private beach area is for Schoolhouse campers and day use. The walk to the river is approximately five minutes from the office. And if you have not crossed the busy River Road I would recommend talking to one of the owners about how the best way to safely cross the busy road. Day use as of 2020 is $5 per person. There is special parking spots for day use. And I see a lot of complaints about dogs. Mainly pit bulls. I’d guess the rule is for insurance reasons. And there is newly installed sinks a great upgrade from previous sink for washing dishes. The sinks are cold water. There are tube rentals. And local firewood sold at the campground. There firewood is $7. The firewood is from the property. This campground is amazing. More old school in the sense of no WiFi. Some cell carriers work in the campground and some don’t. Chris one of the owners does read scary, but not too scary stories to kids on Saturday nights. Tc and pop up trailers are allowed. Size wise I believe the limit is 20’. And no you can’t run your generator. Some of the sites have electricity and power. There is an up change for Rv sites and campsites and rv sites with electric. I personally only do tent camping. Best to check out the website for current prices and information. Radios are not allowed. And if you are looking to come camp and party this campground is not for you. It’s literally a canyon so be considerate of your fellow campers. I hope this...

To get to the river, children must cross a busy street w/semi-trucks.||3 INCONVENIENT to carry kids, + supplies across river road + guard rails, curbs, a locked gate, and dirt stairs if you use strollers.||4. DIRTY "swimming" area, is dust, mud, + rocks. Water is muddy: your kids will be covered in mud.||5. Your campsite will be TOO CLOSE TO OTHER TENTS 10 feet away.||6. There's NO CELL SIGNAL or internet connectivity: so there's no way to locate other points of interest outside this campground without asking the owner.||7. THE OWNER, Ranger Chris, is a HOSTILE HOST.||||You're staying in someone's personal domain, as I learned too late. "On our first night Ranger Chris vehemently confronted me with an ultimatum: "LAST WARNING: YOU, YOUR KID, & YOUR DOG EITHER GET IN YOUR TENT AND GO TO BED NOW, OR YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM MY PROPERTY TONIGHT!" It was just after dinner at about 8-9 pm. We weren't playing music. My little dog is friendly and doesn't bark. I'm sure I was bothering no one but Ranger Chris. We split 2 bottles of white wine between 3 adults. That's 3.5 glasses each. I know about nuisance campers. No one found us a nuisance except owner Chris. The kids were playing with our little dog & he wandered outside our designated space twice. A 3rd time he caught me breaking another rule: disturbing no one but him, and yet he threatened to have my family removed from his property. He said, "You're drunk!".||||I didn't argue what-so-ever. We went to bed right away and left the next morning.||||To be fair, it can't be easy to run this campground with the problems he must face there trying to pay bills for his private property based on camping fees. I like that he keeps bathrooms immaculately clean with nice hand soap! I hope this review conveys for you, fellow campers, the RUDE, PUSHY experience we had at Schoolhouse canyon by Ranger Chris. (Aside from the great company among friends) If you need a decent place to camp nearby, *as long as you're not bothering others: Consider ANY other location such Mirabel park 10 mins down the road. Children can enjoy camping anywhere. Even next to a freeway. But families with their children & pets who want to relax without an over-controlling owner watching over you,...
