Pleasantly surprised at the quality accommodations at Life's Suites in Hamlin, Texas. Located near but away from the highway, we had no problems with traffic noise. Attractive front porch with bench and porch light. Big, brightly painted number by front door provided immediate identification of "our" free-standing facility. No fumbling with keys hassle, because occupants use digits from their phone number to key open the door. Inside, we found one large room attractively divided into sleeping, dining, and kitchen areas. There was also a separate bathroom with an extra-wide entrance door. The queen-size bed had a wonderfully soft but supportive mattress and a variety of pillows. There was a switch-operated, quiet, ceiling fan above the bed (just like at home!) Remote controlled, through-the-wall heating and cooling was practically silent and most efficient. A remote-controlled faux "fireplace" was as fun and relaxing to watch as a lighted aquarium in a dark room, and it will actually put out heat if needed. Remote controlled, flat-screen, wall-mounted television worked well and provided a basic range of local channels. That's okay with us--we didn't come to watch TV! Bathroom was absolutely clean, modern and big enough for two people to move around and not bang into each other. Shower provided dispensers for shampoo and conditioner, and there was a generous bar of soap as well. Hand towels, bath towels and wash cloths were not the usual hotel grade, light-weight fabric but were of a heavy-duty, soft, absorbent material that smelled good! Kitchenette was well-appointed with a microwave, a full-size refrigerator and sink. Paper towels, facial and bath tissue were all soft and of high-quality. Disposable drinking glasses, plastic plates, and eating utensils were provided. The room had a stainless steel rack with hangers for clothing. There were a lot of drawers for storage (bedside tables, kitchenette and bathroom), and there was a generous amount of electrical outlets, including two in the electronic alarm clock. The bedside table contained English and Spanish Bibles, as well as a charger cord with multiple plugs for various electronic devices. The walls were all of lumber installed horizontally, giving the room a cabin look. Two windows provided natural light, and there were hinged, wooded shutters inside that could be closed and latched from the inside to block light or for privacy. Snacks and bottled water were provided, as well as games (tic-tac-toe, cards, and Sudoku, crossword and word scramble books). Owners were attentive, friendly and informative about local goings-on. They take pride in their property, and it shows. There were picnic areas available with barbeque pits, and each cabin had an attractive lawn of thick, green grass. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend...
Read moreI searched everywhere in the area for a place to stop for the night, and the options were less than favorable. I had my doubts about this place, but I decided to book it for 1 night. Within 15 minutes of making my reservation, I was contacted by someone who thanked me for my reservation and confirmed my stay. I was then sent my suite # and an access code via text. When I pulled in to where the suites were, I was starting to regret my choice, since the common area and the appearance of the suites were a bit deceiving and looked run down. I parked in my private driveway, opened the door and was floored. This place was like one of those luxury log cabins you always see on some TV show or hear somebody bragging about. Stop looking at any other accommodations and just book a suite here. This place is by far the best digs you'll find for miles... I could go on and on, but the place will speak for itself. ONLY 1 COMPLAINT: Just had 1 fork in the silverware drawer. No spoon, knife,...
Read moreLifes Suites is an excellent place to stay! They have self check-in and check-out and the owner was available when I had questions. This is not your typical hotel and that's one of the things that makes it great. It is a collection of tiny homes that serve as "rooms". I stayed in the Texas Star and it was great! The air conditioning kept it nice and cool even though it was incredibly hot outside (it reached 109F one day). The room was very clean, the Keureg coffee was good, the location was fun, and the wifi worked really well. Hamlin, TX is an active, small town and it was fun to meet people at the bank, in the donut shop for breakfast, and at the local restaurants. I would definitely come back and stay at...
