WARNING!!! BEWARE! DO NOT GO TO THIS CAMPSITE!
For 4th of July weekend 2015, a group of 7 girlfriends and I all decided we would go camping out on the outer banks for about 4 days! This was going to be an amazing trip! We booked at North Beach Campground in Rodanthe NC. I had been there with my family before, RV camping. It’s not fancy or a very clean campground but it’s on the outer banks Oceanside and its relatively cheap, about $37 a night for 3 people on one campsite. We were required to get two. This is tent camping. So really, $74 a night and $222 total.
I not only received the worst customer service of my life, but the poor treatment was from the owner of the establishment!!!
When we arrived we checked in and got our campsites. Set up the tent in 25 mph winds (it always seems to be windy there) and when we finished setting the tent up we laid down in the tent only to notice our campsite was under a giant floodlight. Since we were going to be there for 3 nights, we went up to the office to see if we could be moved to another site. We inquired within and the people at the front desk said… “ohhhh, you are supposed to be informed that people will be walking through your campsite and that that site has a flood light above it! We are full and can’t move you, but come back and talk to the owner in the morning, she will be able to help you.” So we go to bed that night and the light is so bright we can actually read in the tent with no lights. We could not move the tent because we had to over stake it because of all of the wind. That night there was a huge storm and we barely slept. We went up to the office to talk to the owner about moving to another spot. This was spots G and H, right beside the pool.
We walked in and asked the woman at the counter, politely, mind you. We are under a floodlight and were wondering if we could be moved to a different campsite. The owner put her hands on her hips, sighed out loud and said. “ We are completely full” I said, we came in last night and were told that we should have been told there would be a flood light in our campsite before booking, I made these reservations and paid in full 3 months ago. No one told me I had an option. The woman sighed again and said very aggressively, “ WELL OUR CAMPSITES HAVE LIGHTS, What do you want me to do about it?” Well could we have a discount for not being informed about this? The woman said, “You want a DISCOUNT, HA! NO! Get out of my campsite! I will give you a full refund, but good luck getting anything out here this weekend. I could replace you in a minute!” My friend and I looked at each other and were shocked that someone would say that to us. She basically harassed us in her store. We were still very polite even though she was a total ass to us. I told her that my family and me had been coming there for years. She told me “ I don’t care, get out!” I said we have no where to go… She said “That is not my problem!”
This woman, we never found out her name, continued to walk away from us as we were having this conversation, as well. I do not think I have ever been treated so rudely in my life.
There was a lot more that happened on this trip, but I will not go into more details. We were given no option but to stay and just deal with her!! I and the 7 other girls I was with will NEVER Return there. Nor my family that have been going for years!
The bathrooms are disgusting; no one ever changes the trash or cleans. The bathhouse is gross and I am sure it hasn’t been cleaned in years. The dumpster there stink and the smell will waft through your campsite. The people that live there do not like the campers. It is half people who own RVS and 25 % campsites.
Do NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS PLACE!!! THE OWNER IS RUDE AND DOESN’T REALLY GIVE A RATS ASS ABOUT YOU OR...
Read moreStayed two nights in RV with full hookups, then moved to a water/electric only site for two more days. This was due to our poor planning, no shortcoming of the campground. The road in and out seems narrow but was perfectly fine to get through with the camper. Site sizes are on the small size. The hookups appear fairly new and are in good condition. None of that worry about electrocuting yourself with a sketchy plug. (If you camp, you know what I mean.) Most of the campground is seasonal space, so we were lucky to get room here I think. Sites were level and clean.||The numbered spaces (FHU) are near the beach and the bathhouse. The lettered spaces (W/E) are near the store and the pool. The bathhouse has ramp access and there was a ramp over the dunes as well, so it has decent accessibilty if you have mobility issues. Showers and toilets were as clean as beach facilities can be. I mean, you can't watch them 24/7 to see that people make sure the sand goes down the drain instead of laying in the shower pan. Good water pressure in showers. ||Rodanthe doesn't exactly seem to be a hoppin' place. You go there for the beach and fishing. I wasn't super impressed by the beach, I'm sad to say. It was clean, and it's the ocean, so the baseline is pretty high. But the dropoff in the surf was quite steep and made for some rough going. Not many shells on the beach but if you got out past the breakers you could get some nice ones. However, I was terribly pleased with the pool! I know, I know, how could I go in a pool when I'm at the beach. Because there was shade, and chairs, and fast access to a bathroom, and a quick few feet to my camper for drinks and snacks. Also, due to the roughness of the surf, I much preferred the clean tranquillity of the pool. ||The store on site is well stocked with food, toiletries, camping supplies, souvenirs, pretty much whatever you might need. Delicious homemade fudge, too. Forgot to mention, the fees were incredibly reasonable. If you are going to camp in Rodanthe, this is the...
Read moreThe owner Joey, is decent, store is a bit Pricey, Sure its an island but it has bridges. The "trailer park people" have taken it over, and like a "trailer park, the gossip, drunks and drug use is prevalent...in a tent site next to the pool where kids swim, a group of young men where having a good time in the tent, the smell of marijuana was very strong. Be careful if you have kids and cautious, some park residents come home drunk-even in the daytime! Queen Diane had her bar open and had entertainment late into the night, "hard to sleep with the "movie" night and loud people." Most campgrounds have "quiet time" usually starts at 9pm, but trailer parks don't.once again-"trailer park". Then there are the several mobile homes at the camp ground, the long time trailers that really aren't trailers any more, add-on structures-legal???, decks, Landscaping, OMG!!! The electric meter box has no cover with wires exposed(near pool), which I as a retired electrical inspector, is a violation!!! And a major safety concern. The "camp ground only has 3 full hooks availably, unless the "queen" is there(30 days each time) then only two. Bath facilities are nice, beach is ok when there is room. Best time is later at night after the drunks finally pass out and everyone else has gone to bed, Then and only then is it serine. If the permanent "trailers" were to be reduced and the actual "camp sites" returned to such, then you may once again be a campground. The queen won't go to KOA, because she would not be queen, plus they charge for "extra guests", and don't put up with the drinking. Sorry Joey-over the past years it has gotten really bad- to the...
