We have been coming to the OBX for three years now and have been to this spot each year. Quality of the food etc. is adequate and convenient for those in central Rodanthe. My complaint is the prices and overpricing policies. I ordered 2 16 oz cold brews (light ice) and 1 small cinnamon bun and I payed with a credit card.
The total was nearly 21 dollars! I asked for a receipt because I wanted to check to see if I was being charged for the correct order. The person at the counter stated that they charge extra for the cold brew when you ask for light ice. So not only are the cold brews 3 dollars more expensive compared to regular ice coffee but if you ask for light ice you are charged even more.
Add in the 4.5 percent that you are charged for using a credit card and there you go, 21 bucks for two small “ iced coffees” and a so so pastry.
The policy of charging more for light ice seems ridiculous. We as the consumer are ordering 16 ounces of your product. If it says 16 ounces of cold brew for 5.75 then it is 16 ounces of cold brew for 5.75 regardless of how much ice is in it. Would you nickel and dime somebody if they asked you to put in a tablespoon of cream ?Give the consumer what they are paying for, full stop.
And I cannot tell you how long it’s been since I have seen a proprietor charge the consumer 4.5% for using a credit card . I thought that policy when out of date in the last century.
I understand the business is seasonal and you need to make as much money as you can while the sun is shining but doing this up-charging your customers is a poor policy.
I will be taking my business elsewhere .
PS if you want a cold brew, go down to the Food Lion and buy yourself a bottle and save your...
Read moreI’ve spent an alarming amount of money at Beads & Beans since I moved within walking distance of the shop a couple of years ago. Our toddlers, who have been accompanying to this coffee shop at least a few times a week since they were 6 weeks old, have grown to expect every breakfast to be as delicious as B&Bs pastries. We love this coffee shop so much that we keep track of what day of the week it is by whether B&Bs is open, and part of our morning routine involves checking Fbook to see what fun new drinks and pastries they’ll have that day. Beyond all the deliciousness I can attest to, I try to limit my time inside because I want to buy everything. I also find the “rants” Fbook posts extremely amusing and worth mentioning. Lastly, I want to add how kind and patient this family-owned business is. They routinely deal with all sorts of social taboos, such as guests banging on their door before opening time, letting all of the AC escape through open doors on hot days, and trespassing on their property, among other offenses, with grace that is beyond my personal ability. I honestly read the reviews for the first time tonight thinking the only reason there could possibly be for less than a 5-star rating is people who don’t enjoy checking fbook for business hours and offerings as part of their routine like we do. I surely wasn’t expecting to see anyone criticizing my favorite coffee and pastries. Some of y’all are the reason we can’t have nice things. S/o to the bearded barista et al for keeping me poor and ensuring I won’t retire a day before...
Read moreVisited the last day of our vacation…actually while heading out of town. First impression… cute place.. good selection. We voiced many times how cute everything was and that the food looked good between our group of 4. My daughter and I asked some questions about food and drinks, trying to figure out our order. We were greeted (actually we weren’t greeted) with rudeness. The cafe was not busy at the time but we appeared to annoy the barista waiting on us with our questions. Everyone has a bad moment so we didn’t take it too serious. With tip are total came to around $50. Food and coffee were good. When we got back to our car we all felt a little unsettled with our visit. Our visit to OBX to this point had been wonderful and we actually had made many observations of how wonderful everyone was while visiting, so this experience was disappointing in the customer service department. Looking at the reviews we seen we weren’t the only ones that experienced the same icy disposition and were made fun of for commenting about their subpar visit with the cranky barista. In my daughters case… her review was reposted on Facebook and made fun of even more. It’s sad that a grown woman needs to pick on people and argue that she’s not rude by being rude. Handle your business better… do better… be better. People shouldn’t have to be worried for giving their honest opinion about your business…. If you don’t like what they have to say then make some changes. And no worries.. I’ll post on...
