This is for the #24 booked on fewo.de
We arrived late at evening, the instructions how to get there/the key was perfect, also we got some informations on the condo and the island in advance, that was great. But, the moment we opened the door there was a strong smell of urine, not only at the entrance but also in the bedroom. We contacted the owner by email then we had to go to bed. In the morning the smell was still bad and the owner told us to get in contact with the housekeeping, she came and told us it's from cat urine outside the bedroom window. She cleans there and we went out for the day. By the time we came back at night the smell was there again, so we had another night in the smelling bedroom. So again contact to the owner and housekeeping came cleaning... And when we came back at night, urine smell again. .. In the morning I talked to the owner and she offered us to cancel the last 2 nights and move to another condo. But that would have taken us another half day and packing again so we decided to stay and give the housekeeping another chance. .. So when we came back in the evening the cleaning don't help at all, same smell and another night in the smelling bedroom. (This time housekeeping told the owner there was no urine smell, just a bit musty .. ) By then we felt like our concerns were not taken serious at all and the owner just thought the problem is us and not something in the apartment. We didn't even want to open our luggage in the bedroom cause of the smell, we had it in the living room. Very disappointing. If it was not for the smell it would have been great, yes for sure the condo is a bit older and some stuff needs to be renewing, but that's ok. Dealing with the smell and the owner/housekeeping every day was so stressful. For the price we payed that's...
Read moreMy husband and I paid for two nights at Colony I but checked out after one. Initially it all seemed fine and our room looked nice. But shortly after we arrived we sat down to eat dinner at the table in our room and noticed a bunch of little bugs on the table. We then realized they were EVERYWHERE - on the bedside tables, on the walls, kitchen counter, every surface. They’re small but there were so many and we couldn’t get a good sleep knowing they were crawling all around us. Aside from the bug infestation, you can absolutely hear everything your neighbour does. It was so loud, especially being in one of their bottom units. There’s no AC in the room and if you want AC, you have to pay extra but can only do this during their narrow office hours so if you do a late check in like us, you are out of luck. Also the sprinklers turn on around 3am and are shockingly loud. All of this to say, it was a night of very little sleep. We couldn’t do a second night and instead took the loss and booked at the Hilton in Waikoloa… it wasn’t in the area we wanted to explore further but that’s how desperate we were to have a good nights rest and we previously had such a good experience there. The following morning we told the staff about the bugs - she said they were sugar ants and very normal on the island due to the climate. However, we had stayed at 3 other places during our time on Big Island and they were all bug-free. I find it hard to believe there isn’t more Colony I could do to get rid of the...
Read moreEach unit has different furnishings. Our two bedroom unit had a washer and dryer and dishwasher. There was enough soap for one dish load and one laundry wash. This is definitely off the beaten path, so grocery shop ahead of time. Our balcony for unit 52 overlooked the parking lot mainly, so that was a design flaw. The architecture is reminiscent of "old Hawaii- Cocoa Palms where Elvis Presley stayed in Kauai and the Disney World Polynesian resort was influenced. The pool area is lovely, albeit with a very very strict pool manager. No air conditioning so you will need to have ceiling fans on. Two minutes away from the black sand beach and not a far drive from the green sand beach. The locals start to give $20 one way rides and $30 round trip rides at 9 a.m. at Green Sand beach, but our family hiked it with plenty of...
