If you are looking for an adventure and first hand lava experience along your stay, this is the place. Decent rooms and has all amenities one would need, common kitchen with all needed utensils and a spot with telescope to view the moon at night- what else would one need!! We were there for a night and loved our stay. The lady in charge there is pretty helpful and polite. We met wonderful people staying there for their 2nd or 3rd time. Make sure to keep insect repellent since during/after rains, one may encounter bugs/mosquitoes. You can prepare meals and store it in refrigerator or take ready to eat stuff or a takeout if you don’t want to cook there. Highly recommend this place for a fabulously different experience.

This place is a gem. We didnt expect much as this is an off grid area but the place was amazing. Clean room, ample lighting, beautiful balcony with great view. They have pantry and they have everything from food to utensils. Road to the place is a bit rough and it is super dark at night. Will suggest to check in during daytime. We will definitely never forget this place. ❤️

It's definitely at lava lookout but it was really awesome cus I was closer to my son, my reason for going to Hawaii. But overall, a great place to enjoy some cabin like feel, time,. It was impressive knowing that it was all sustainabily operated & communal eating, socializing, and kicking back! I'd stay there again for sure, if the opportunity arose! Lol Bobbie

When we booked Lava lookout, we knew what we are getting into. It's a place in Kalapana in the middle of nowhere. We wanted an experience to stay on the frozen lava fields with pitch dark surroundings and clear starry skies. While imagining it was one thing, experiencing it completely another. This place is absolutely amazing. The room is spacious with latest finishes in the bathroom. It's off grid and run completely on solar. There's a shared kitchen with all the necessary paraphernalia that you need. Above all, the host is extremely hospitable. Matthew provided clear instructions on how to get there, which were life saving as we arrived late at night with no signs or lights around. He was helpful all along our stay. He provided us umbrellas and ponchos which were quite helpful when it rained a little. He's also quite cheerful, friendly as he played with our kid during dinner time. In addition, as I referenced earlier, the place offers pitch dark skies, navigating and stargazing through which was spectacular and an experience to have. Overall, we had an amazing time. Only one feedback, the kitchen could be a little...

I stayed in one of the most cleanest and wonderful rooms I have been to in since I have been on island the whole staff were very nice and courteous and accommodating and our room was so amazing we have to come back on our next visit to Big Island and stay longer the scenery was breathtaking and I can't imagine a better view of the of the lava it was very nice and I hope to come back very soon and do it again but stay longer it's very much well worth the money I spent just for the the comfort and the way that the staff made sure that I had everything I needed I would recommend this place over any other on the BIG island so I definitely will have to make plans to come...
